Gives the engine and exhaust sound on the side, and I have to say... IT SOUNDS WICKED FOR A STOCK EXHAUST!!!!:laughabove::happyanim::thumbup:

Indeed not bad for stock.

I think I'll be changing it though. LOL

aliphian 04-26-2011 01:08 AM

Sounds pretty good.

Mr.Jay 04-26-2011 02:43 AM

I actually really surprised this wasnt posted earlier

not too bad but we need aftermarket for sure for a real nice soundtrack

dalli 04-26-2011 04:05 AM

It sounds so mean.....

why the 2nd vid exhaust is better than 3rd..

2nd vid =engine sound

3rd vid= exhaust

lols

All you need is some unequal length headers. The easiest route will probably be to get a set of headers for a ~2012 STi and get a custom midpipe made at a muffler shop.

As for exhaust noises, if you guys want to whet your appetites try watching youtube videos of n/a subarus with equal length headers, and then imagine them revving out another ~2K rpms.

true old_greg, just cant wait to get my hands on one lol

Doesnt the latest shape of STi have equal length headers?
Or is that just the Turbo Legacy that has the equal length headers.

I have to admit I don't pay much attention to the Legacy, so I didn't realize the new LGT had EL headers. The current ('11) STi still has the traditional layout, but given the headers on the LGT that may not be the case after the redesign.

I honestly hope they do use that new style of headers on the new Impreza, that much reduction in length must be good for at least 500 rpm of spool. Plus, it will make STi -> FT86 engine swaps much simpler as there won't be room for the traditional layout in an FT. It will royally piss off a lot of people though.

The FT 86 sounds great.

That does sound nice. Any guesses at what engine rpm that is recorded at? Like 3500-4000rpm?

I'm thinking in the last clip maybe a 2000-2500 rev first, then a 3000-3500, then maybe 4000-4500 and finally a 4500-5000? Just guessing but I definitely dont think they maxed it out in any of them, then again I'm used to a catback so it could be a lot higher...

Is it UEL or EL? I can't really tell and no one has commented either way :iono:.

EL, without a doubt.

poormans_LFA 04-26-2011 10:29 PM

That's weird. I thought the FT86 II was just a clay buck. Guess not? Sounds alright...not quite what I was hoping from a Boxer engine, but that's what the aftermarket is for. :party0030:

Hachiroku 04-26-2011 11:29 PM

Put the sounds to some photos!

Lol what were you expecting? It's a 2.0 na engine, I think it sounds pretty nice and beefy for a stock 4cyl car, it's not a v8 muscle car that's gonna sound, well, like a v8 muscle car but you're right that's what aftermarket is for and I'll prob upgrade at some point as well, just saying it's not bad for stock ;)

I would agree too that it sounds good for a stock 4 cylinder. Has that nice deep grumble of the boxer engine. Wouldn't mind my aftermarket exhaust sounding something like this

I've never cared for how my car sounds, as long as it doesn't sound like a fart can.

I mean really, when am I ever going to hear my own car? No chance in hell anyone else is going to drive it.

You never drive with your windows down? I'm sure you will hear the exhaust inside the car cabin.

I hear my engine bay more than I hear my exhaust.

I drove in a G35 with an exhaust system. I couldn't even hear myself think inside the car, it was loud. That's just horrible.

But typically, I don't think the exhaust of a car ever sounds the same from inside the car as it does outside, so I don't really care.

ryun84 04-27-2011 04:56 AM

Beautiful. I've always loved the Subie boxer rumble. If I ever get an STI, I would keep the UEL headers just for the sound. LOL!

You and me both. I sold my GTS a couple weeks ago. Opened a savings account with the money so I can save up a down payment for the FR-S when it's finally released.
