OEM Reverse Lockout Pin Stuck
Need some ideas...
Uninstalling the OEM Reverse Lockout. I used a 3/32 Punch and Hammer as per the procedure. With some firm taps, the pin came out the back slightly. Since then, no amount of hammering has moved it further. I grabbed the pin with a pair of pliers and attempted to remove it the rest of the way. No luck. The pin will not budge in or out now. So, I am now stuck with the Pin a quarter of the way out. Any ideas what to do at this point? - Thanks |
Maybe have a friend grab the other end with pliers and wiggle the pin while you try tapping it out again.

I found it to be a two man procedure. I held the shifter steady while the other person hammered the pin out. Otherwise too much of the impact energy is lost in the shifter moving around.

Its recommended you put the shifter into reverse while doing this so you dont have to line it back up later. I think that also takes some lateral pressure off the pin. Are you doing that?
I always held the shifter firmly in reverse (pushing the gear shifter forward) while holding the pin in place with the same hand. Then just give the pin some really hard taps. I was using a rubber mallet too because I was scared of damage, but turns out the rubber absorbed too much force. So thats another thing to consider. |

My main concern is that the pin got warped inside somehow, jamming it in place.

Hi! new here first post :) Can you try locking vice grips on the exposed end of the pin, then use a screwdriver inbetween the vice grips, or in the vice grips and hammer the pin out. Think of it as pulling the pin, not pushing. Good luck

That pin i heard is 50/50 on keeping it. Some people drill it out, others have no problems. I haven't touched that part of my car yet, but i'll be buying a second pin before i do.

I used pliers, and pulling the pliers towards you, turning the pliers around the actual lock out as leverage.....if that makes any sense

UPDATE:
The pin would not budge. It appeared to be wedged somehow. Gave up and took a dremel to the shift know. After cutting off the shift knob, the pin would still not come out. Being left with half a pin stuck out, I slid the new lockout into place. I found a similar metal rod in the garage that I bent to fit. Once in place, I hammered it the rest of the way into the hole. Does firm hammering the reverse lockout pin damage the tranny shift fork or any other component in the tranny? I already done mine by putting it in reverse then hammered the PITA out but am worried if it can cause wear with the transmission.

Hmm, according to this video, hammering done in 3rd, with puncher left in put in reverse for lockout to not drop down, then remove lockout.

No clue if something can be damaged, didn't felt any bad changes when shifting in mine. I guess there might be option of putting something behind dash & shifter, if it scares you. |
