Drambeenie Risers MEGATHREAD.
FT86SpeedFactory are now selling the Drambeenie Risers!! Check it out!
http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/dram...17-86-brz.html _______ ORIGINAL POST I removed my spoiler but the green pop clips didn't come along with it. I tried pushing in the sides but it's difficult because the other flap is inside of the trunk. This spoiler is different than the prior years. Thoughts? First image is inside of the trunk opened, second is ontop of the trunk. Black oval is a decal I put to cover the hole. https://i.imgur.com/LkvVYRd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DftSwGL.jpg |
You selling the 2017 spoilerr?
|
Looks like you pinch the clip on the inside, and push it out of the car.
|
Yeah try using a flathead to push in the tabs and remove the clip.

I'll try using my pic tool and see if it'll get to the underside and fit. |

Also, subscribed for pics of finished product. If it looks good, there could be a market for it :) |

My cousin is a robotics engineer so we're going to make sure it's structurally sound, sturdy, durable and most importantly safe! |
Needle nose pliers won't fit up in there?

Got it! This was the pic that did it and super easily too.
https://i.imgur.com/qKd2bSC.jpg I continued with the rest of the disassembly. I took measurements, but we're also going to 3D scan the pieces to create a CAD model we can modify to be taller. The pylons are definitely plastic with metal reinforcement for the screws to attach to. Pretty easy to disassemble actually. https://i.imgur.com/JUtM3Qa.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DUAwEYz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dZZp5gq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/KQpa2x0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/44eFCqw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cUBnvTN.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fdsKof3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0KsbzOL.jpg Removed the little pieces that sit ontop of the wing. They pop right off with a plastic panel tool. https://i.imgur.com/6ZWWzTm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/scU5O6R.jpg https://i.imgur.com/H84VUXp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Q5Svqvy.jpg Little rubber piece. Not sure if this will be necessary with the higher spoiler. https://i.imgur.com/wyoXERK.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dItVBWE.jpg https://i.imgur.com/RuFWtbm.jpg |
Please post the results! I really like the 17 wing, yet I also had the idea of having it raised a little bit higher. Exited to see how this turns out!
|
Kind of a long shot but I'm guessing the MY17 spoiler doesn't match up properly with the 13-16 spoiler bolt pattern, does it?

In my rough estimation you could attach a 17 wing to a previous year BRZ if you patch the trunk clip holes |
I'm in for following this. I've been talking on/off with engineering friends about this over the last 6 months. I just haven't pulled the trigger on any development yet.
A side note. Subaru strengthened the '17 trunk lid on the sides to help support the weight/downforce of the new spoiler. So while you could retrofit it to an older trunk, it might deform. |
They specifically designed the new spoiler to complement the car aerodynamically with what's going on up front, not sure why you'd wanna mess with that too much.

Initial sketches - not CAD yet. Let me know if you guys like any in particular. It's hard to judge without seeing it in physical form or on the car, so we're going to narrow it down and prototype just a few of them. Happy friday!

I saw this today, and it got me thinking:
http://autoguide.com.vsassets.com/bl...os-10-copy.jpg Article: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ng-around.html Even taller, with adjustable angle? I think being able to change the AOA would be excellent. |
The other thing I have had on my mind for this spoiler, a gurney flap. Connect it via the posts and the outer screws, if it was a rigid enough material, it should stay in place really nicely.

The issue with being taller, is that the side panels that sit perpendicular to the wings are really kinda small. So the taller you go with the spoiler, the more awkard they look. As a phase 2 I could also produce larger side panels to go with the larger height, similar to the Subaru BRZ Sti Concept. http://www.blogcdn.com/es.autoblog.c...ept-sti-la.jpg I also want to make sure it still has the OEM look to it, as if it came from factory. Adjustable angle would be a cool idea - same with the gurney flap. I think I'm gonna just start with the simple extension, get a feel for the process of producing the part and then go from there. These are really good ideas for future variations. |

I see what your doing, its an easy (cheepish) little thing to customize the wing you were already given. who knows maybe ill change my mind once i see the final products. hope you carry this out! subd |

Not as bad at x2 height
here's what i would do if i was designing this project. Id have some metal bracket type mounts CNC cut, rather then the 3d printed towers. these could be made to be structurally sound for sure, and match the thickness of the wing better. something like this. http://i64.tinypic.com/x45evq.jpg |

The challenge with even doing something simple CNC'd out of metal, is that the pylons don't sit flat. So the bottom, where they're attached to the trunk tilt on an angle and the length of them has an S-curve. The mounting points at the top is at another angle. The wing, though it looks like it's completely flat, actually curves. When you sit it on the floor, the sides very slightly curve downwards. Not saying what you want to do isn't possible, just that a flat piece of metal would need to be bent in a precise way to line up with the factory hardware and not have any gaps. Another possibility to increase the height of the wing while keeping it proportional, would be to create larger side winglets that attach to the ends of the wing. |
|
Looking forward to see what you come up with. Sub'd

I'm liking the x2 height.
Everytime I see the word pylon in here though... http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...al_pylons3.jpg |
