Following the UK debut of the TRD GT86 at last month's Goodwood Festival of Speed, we now have new photos and additional information on what is being described by Toyota as the "ultimate road going evolution" of the brand's rear wheel drive sports coupe.

First unveiled in Japan at the Tokyo Auto Salon early in 2012, the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) GT86 is scheduled to go on sale in Britain as special edition model in the beginning of January 2013.

The exterior modifications of the car include a lower front spoiler, complete with aerodynamic ‘fins’ ahead of the front wheels, wider side skirts, a venturi style under spoiler and a larger boot lid wing.

There's also TRD badged oil filler cap while the car rides on new 18-inch forged alloy wheels finished in black and shod in Michelin performance tyres.

Inside, the TRD treatment brings new sports “bucket” seats, additional instrumentation including the Sports Meter Link System comprising water temperature, and oil temperature and pressure gauges, plus a red push button start switch, and a TRD badged gearshift knob.

The GT86's car’s engine remains stock, but TRD has made modifications to the chassis with a new adjustable suspension system and thicker anti-roll bars front and rear, and a more powerful mono block brake kit larger calipers and 355mm front and 345mm rear grooved and vented rotors.

A new exhaust system with quad tailpipes that Toyota says improves engine response and sound completes the package.

makes sense... no wonder there's such difficulty getting a whiteout.... every dealer i've talked about ordering an fr-s keeps on telling me raven is the easiest next to ultramarine and firestorm.... i really hope they bring this TRD/Release series to us !!

DarthNads 07-16-2012 02:31 PM

I AM SO JELLY RIGHT NOW... (caps)

Heero 07-16-2012 02:35 PM

they should have had this available at launch tbh. I would be pissed if they offered this right after I purchased mine.

Wix 07-16-2012 02:39 PM

This setup is just perfect in my book. Things to come for the US I hope.

Freakinjared 07-16-2012 02:43 PM

FML. Really.

...REALLY?!

Chewie4299 07-16-2012 03:13 PM

Looks like fairly solid confirmation between this and the STI BRZ that both companies are keeping FI off this platform from the factory despite all the assumptions and speculation to the contrary.

I'm happy about this because I can customize my FRS my way with the aero bits, roll bars, suspension, wheels, and tires I want without that feeling that I'm still missing the 'better' powertrain from the factory.

to be honest, i searched autotrader.com around me 50 mile radius for FRS's and i saw 5, all of them whiteout. :)

Raven86 07-16-2012 03:47 PM

Damn, UK only? That is really nice

RRnold 07-16-2012 03:49 PM

That's such a complete car. I'm sure the US will get screwed once again b/c of Scion and our version would be a RS version with half of the pieces. :bonk:

Zgrinch 07-16-2012 03:52 PM

It mentioned...."additional instrumentation including the Sports Meter Link System comprising water temperature, and oil temperature and pressure gauges". I didn't see that in any of the pictures...did I miss it?

Asterisked Accolade 07-16-2012 03:55 PM

Need TRD and Nur in America..must have..

whataboutbob 07-16-2012 04:03 PM

I like them too, but not sure I could afford them at this price: http://ishiimotors.com/trd-sf2-wheel.html ($1780.00/ea)

Hey Toyota! I'll put down a deposit right now. Bring it to the US please.

Imti 07-16-2012 04:21 PM

Good to hear the TRD models are coming out.

About time. Since Toyota in Dubai made an announcement during launch in June that they'd make JDM TRD parts available to all 86 owners, come August.

Xenocide117 07-16-2012 04:26 PM

Looks like we know what to expect from a release series. Now we just need Zeus to make it official. BAM!

cyde01 07-16-2012 04:31 PM

the wheels, brakes and exhaust are so expensive by themselves. how much would a full car with everything included like this cost???

luxmn 07-16-2012 05:56 PM

from the cost of individual TRD components this model will cost 26k base + 5k wheels + 12k brakes + 3k suspensions + 4K others = $50k? that's a lot of dough for a "limited edition" FRS so I doubt it'll be coming to the US

Lonewolf 07-16-2012 06:00 PM

This would easily be 45-50K in the States based on the price of the TRD stuff...you can build your own ultimate street version
for much less, albeit without a warranty.

tripjammer 07-16-2012 06:03 PM

We will get everything but the brakes, and the wheels. The wheels are forged but probably not $5k forged wheels, they are only 18 inches, so they got to be cheaper.

Figure the release series 1.0 FR-S will be around $28K.....
It better have push start and those racing seats.....hehe!

KaliKev 07-16-2012 06:07 PM

Love the wheels!

mickey177 07-16-2012 06:13 PM

Damn it. We americans got screwed over again.the uk already got the civic type r and now this.why do they get all the special edition?

oso_25 07-16-2012 06:21 PM

US gets TRD TC and the UK get FR-s TRD that's so not fare :mad0260:

TurboKoupSX 07-16-2012 06:37 PM

Im moving to UK because of this!

ZetaVI 07-16-2012 06:40 PM

I hope the UK forum members will be all over this. Those wheels are beautiful.

ahausheer 07-16-2012 06:45 PM

Ugh, body kit looks horrible. They can have it.

MmmHamSandwich 07-16-2012 07:24 PM

Looks like they didn't even try to hide the fact these are just bulbous plastic trim pieces taped on.

More weight, more ugly, more money. Where do I sign up?

GirlyScions 07-16-2012 08:03 PM

The body kit would look good if they were actually new body panels instead of that ugly glued on look.

So the US will get the quad exhaust, the coilovers, the sway bars, the bucket seats and the interior mods...

jeebus 07-16-2012 08:48 PM

quad exhaust seems excessive.

Neekowahhhh 07-16-2012 09:47 PM

I think the quad exhaust just makes that ass look all sorts of Juicy. I'm for it if i can find a better aftermarket company to purchase from. I like the TRD bumper more than anything. If ARK Performance puts out a Quad... game over!

Blue86 07-16-2012 09:57 PM

I love how you guys bitch and moan that you get screwed over when it comes to cars....

How about the fact that you can get a porsche 911 for about $100K US brand new yet in Australia the equivalent car would cost $230K US.

You guys get such good prices on some amazing cars compared to us Aussies, not to mention the mustangs, corvettes, camaros etc

eriktherod 07-16-2012 10:15 PM

As cool as it may be, still way too much. I kind of don't care for the 'super aggressive' look for a car that's still 200hp, unless they S/C it and all that too.

Enilder 07-16-2012 10:27 PM

i wonder if this is going to be 40k car with 10k BBK. lol. i say buy this and sell TRD BBK. profit!

except the type Rs received better engines.

power wise, this TRD is the same as the base models.

only the brakes/suspension/wheels are functional on this car. everything else is there for looks.

i'll even say that the TRD model is overpriced but that's not the point of this thread.

DeepHunta 07-17-2012 01:31 AM

what the EFF!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Stupid scion! I would've gladly taken this over my BRZ! I wonder if any of those TRD parts have been dyno'd. HP gains perhaps.....only time will tell.

ZeeSpeed 07-17-2012 01:44 AM

I heard from a Toyota rep at Goodwood there will be only 86 TRD versions to order. Besides £40k for a car where the body kit doesn't 100% match the color of the rest of the car is a total rip off!
