Locked myself inside my 2013 FR-S again today

Parked and turned the motor off after arriving @work. Was doing a few things and then tried to open the door to get out and realize I had locked it on the way to work - not unusual. Pressed the unlock button on the drivers door - nothing. Pressed it several more time - nothing. Started the car and the unlock button on the drivers door works again. 2nd time I can remembering this happening. Kinda freaky being locked in. Fwiw, the unlock button on the fob didn't have the same issue.

Anyone else? Fix available?

Maybe your fob battery is dying and the car isn't sensing it anymore.

VIP BRZ 04-19-2017 04:17 PM

locked in? Wait.. why didn't you just flip the lock mechanism with your finger?

does the fob work to lock the car?

Joyride86 04-19-2017 04:32 PM

Sadly this isn't the first time I've heard this happen. Our future is looking bleak.

mazeroni 04-19-2017 04:40 PM

Do you not hear any noise when you push unlock? No answer for you, but probably a short or something? If it doesn't work on either side, it has to be an electrical issue from the switch maybe?

http://www.marinair.co.nz/site/marin...s/resqme_1.jpg

I keep one of these on my keychain. Has a seatbelt cutter and window popper outer thingy.

Given the shift to fully electrical systems, it probably should be made standard.

It cost $3.

I actually installed one of these in my car, every car should have one. Even if electronics don't fail us, there's always the mechanism itself that could fail, or an accident that prevents the door from opening.

You have a manual lock in there....

Stang70Fastback 04-19-2017 06:11 PM

You know you can physically flip that little red thing... right?

....

Not to take over OPs post, but... I want to say that I've noticed it on the door handle before, but you showing me a picture, now I'm not sure I knew that lock was there.

When OP wrote the thread, I was thinking back to the locks that pop up, and was certain there was no other way to unlock the door.

All this to say that I've had the car like 20 months and this feels like new information.

This... this has to be a troll post...

Cut hole in roof with pocket knife and use a flare gun to signal for help.

8RZ 04-20-2017 07:39 AM

OP needs to read the "survival kit" thread in case this happens again.

Yes.
I do expect the unlock button on the door to work also. I also realize from the scorn and other retarded posts that this is unreasonable for some reason though, so I'll just leave with my issue unresolved.
Thanks helpful forum!

That would make sense if i was having a problem with the fob. I'm not.

Because I wanted to determine the scope of the problem first.

Yes. That's why i posted that the fob works fine.

bcj 04-20-2017 11:37 AM

The windows won't roll down a few seconds after stopping the car too.
It's a disabling function the BCU performs when it thinks you don't need it anymore.

The reason people are making the comments they are is because of the way you worded your original post. At no point were you "locked in the car" as you put it. In fact, you even said, and I quote:

There is nothing freaky being locked in the car because you aren't locked in. But you made it sound as if you had no idea how else to exit the vehicle, and started freaking out a bit. This is nothing other than hilarious to everyone else because, well, you weren't locked in, and it would show an immense lack of observational skills on your part to not have noticed how the door locks work after even one hour of ownership.

Nothing wrong with the question you asked, but I suppose you just worded it poorly, and in such a way as to make yourself look rather silly.

VIP BRZ 04-20-2017 11:47 AM

^^ thank you

and now he is throwing around R-bombs?
good riddance

:laughabove::bellyroll::lol: it's like being locked in a room that can only be locked from the inside.

There is no "problem" it is just how the door locks work. You have 30 seconds to use the power lock before it deactivates. After 30 seconds you have to use the manual unlock. It is pretty much standard safety feature on all cars for many years now since it prevents any kid with a stick from pushing the window open and unlocking the car with a stick.

I must say that your original post did bring a humourous picture to mind even if you can't laugh along with the rest of us.

You know, this makes absolute sense, but I didn't know this was a thing. I guess I've never sat in a locked car with it turned off long enough to realize that.

JD001 04-20-2017 01:17 PM

Big question, did you sleep in it?

PandaSPUR 04-20-2017 01:19 PM

I opened this thread expecting something like "I took the door card off to do some work and now my car wont lock/unlock"

But wow.

Not sure if it was designed as a safety feature or as a battery saving feature. Either way, its normal... RTFM.

It is something they should explain in the manual.

DCBeltwaymoveright 04-20-2017 09:41 PM

It's really too bad this feature didn't show up in cars until about 2005. If I had had it in HS in 1982, I'd be like, sorry baby we are locked in the car!
