Nice or Rice?
I just saw a 2017 BRZ with performance package in person...
Overall I really liked it a lot with one exception: the new wing. A little too fast and furious for my taste; I prefer the old style or better yet the TRD. Does the new wing bother anyone else? |
I am not into the really tall ones. I think the 2017 spoiler looks amazing. It is low and understated, not obnoxious at all. Funny but my wife prefers the older style though. :-)
|
I like it. It's not huge, black, and in your face, and it keeps nice and low so it's pretty subtle.
|
I really liked it in the pictures... just in person it looked tacked on as opposed to integrated with the design.
This won't be the first time I'm in the minority as far as opinions go... |

Not as rice as the stock Lancer GTS/GT wing though. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_..._large.jpg?v=0 Couldn't see anything with that thing on the back. |
I prefer the previous version more

I like it on my 17. It is something different, yet I feel it fits well. The colored pieces on the sides really bring it all together. I was a little unsure of it at first, but it grew on me. After washing the car a few times I liked it a lot. Odd I know. I really like it now. Matter of taste.

not rice enough.

New wing is beautiful & I believe more functional. It's literally the only change in the car that has my attention.
a little jelly |
I like the new wing...looks good.
I also like practical. Washing a car which has a wing is certainly a PIA. Car needs a turbo in order to make real use of a wing. |

Generally, if you have to ask this question, it's probably the former

You saying 'nice'? It was the rear wing that just looked odd.. it's massive!!! |
I prefer a wing to a spoiler, since they generally have less drag penalty, ie better L/D.

Oops, I guess I meant "latter." |
Has anything been released as to it's functionality? What are the new drag coefficient numbers?
Having not seen it in real life, I think the new wing looks ok - not better or worse than the older one. |

It's not my style, stands out too much. I love my '14 spoiler.

I will gladly ditch my 14 spoiler for the new style. Love the look.

..hmm wasn't there something about aesthetics being subjective...

I would have that thing off my car and on it's way to somebody that liked it in a heartbeat. |
For reference purposes...of course. 😁

I love that thing. So understated, and it's stout.

Looks good in those pictures, but what I saw was a yellow car and the predominantly black wing, particularly when viewed from above the car - (as in me standing near the rear of the car) looked like an aftermarket tack on.
I think part of it is the relatively low point of view in those pictures and perhaps the extreme color contrast of yellow/black that makes the pictures more appealing to me than the car was in person. Don't get me wrong - I would not remove it like Tcoat suggests - but I do prefer a more integrated style. Indeed this seems to be the trend with all the automated wings... Porsche, Jaguar, Tesla, etc... body color and following the lines of the car as opposed to a classic wing. |

TRD and 5-axis 'spoilers' still look much better!

I like the '13-'16 spoiler on the BRZ (This is the GT86 spoiler, right?)
MY '13 FR-S has the stock spoiler, which is also available on the new 86, and I really do not like it. Granted, if you view the car from above, it totally matches the lines that start from the front bumper, over the arches, and across the roof. But it makes the read end look bulky as a result of how the "wings" extend over the read haunches and the fact that it rests on the decklid. I would replace it, but they cut a ton of holes in the trunk to mount it. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...5&d=1374613656 *Note my photo As for the new spoiler, I like that it doesn't rest on the decklid. Also, I think it looks more functional, where my spoiler looks like it was added because the marketers said it would be sporty, and 20-somethings like sporty. Although, it is supposed to slightly reduce drag. Though I agree the new spoiler looks like an aftermarket piece, but at least they put in the effort to reinforce the deck lid and made it out of aluminum. I feel like they actually put effort into making it more than just an appearance piece, or some after thought. The 5 Axis stuff and similar spoilers are my favorite. Edit: Not rice, but maybe not nice on the 86 body. It seems like a good piece of hardware, just applied to the wrong vehicle. I've come to find that the 86 looks best without any spoilers - also, unless you are doing track days, it probably is useless. |

I agree with the OP. Pre-facelift for me. I think the car looks taller and "boxier" from back with the new spoiler, the old one gives the car more aggresive yet subtle look. Especially the old one is great with the STI gurney flap.

I don't know, gang. I'm finding myself very happy not to have any spoiler or wing at all- it was my preference this way.
