Clutch squeak, grind, groan TSB released.
|
About damn time.
I got mine covered under warranty luckily, but I'm in a Subaru, and I don't know if they have a TSB for this yet. I'm also in Canada. But good to know they're finally admitting they have a problem with this. |
Toyota released this yesterday. Unfortunately it only covers 3/36. Mine was incredibly bad before I replaced it and the clutch assembly.

Son of a bitch! I just replaced my TOB and clutch last week because Toyota refused to replace it under warranty. I'm past the bumper to bumper though, so I guess it's a moot point. Seems like a faulty design.
|
Figures they don't release this until I'm over 75k miles. I first brought it to Subaru with under 30k and then again around 35k. Oh well...
|
Would be very interested to know if Subaru also releases a TSB for this. I'm just over 36k.... although I don't have any problems... yet.
|
Im in canada, can i print this and bring it over to the dealer? I brought my car in for oil change the weekend, and told them i have this exact problem. They said it's perfectly normal for these vehicles.

This applies to the US market only. I'll check and see if this bulletin applies to international markets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I'd rather see a "re-call" ...... when needed ......:mad0260:

Far past that warranty mileage -_-
|
Brilliant, Toyota. Only 3 years too late...
Even sadder that they include the 2013 MY on this TSB - I would imagine many of those cars would have been sold in, oh I don't know, 2013... At least we have some official confirmation that the TOB is the culprit, for whatever that's worth. |
Has anyone seen if Subaru released anything yet? I have not been able to find anything.
|
Hi anyone have a sound example if i got this problem ?

When i was working at Toyota in 2014 i emailed Toyota many times in regards to this issue. No response from the north american head office. 3 years later they released the TSB when i am no longer with Toyota. Fuck my life.
|
great! right when my warranty is over.
|
Shit, I just got my TOB replaced under 5/60 warranty, but they used the 802 part. Well, at least they acknowledged something was wrong and I will have a solution TOB for purchasing when I have to replace it again at 100k miles.
|
Thanks for the info. I updated the TSB Thread to point to this thread for now. Can't wait until there is a PDF for this TSB. I got this fixed as well, but with an older parts :(

Clutch squeak, grind, groan TSB released.
Subaru TSB 03-77-17, dated 1/3/17, for a "rotational sound from clutch release bearing". New TOB part # 30502AA150. Covers '13-'17 BRZ. New bearing installed in cars from VIN H*600825 and up.

Well, no pdf (yet) but here's the summary description from the techinfo.subaru.com website:
-Qte- “Rotational” Sound from Clutch Release Bearing This bulletin announces a change to the internal lubricating grease used during assembly of the clutch release bearing for BRZ models. In cases where drivers have a tendency to rest their foot on the clutch pedal, doing so can cause the bearing to overheat. As a result, the grease inside the bearing can break down and over time, cause a “whirring” or rotational-type sound to develop. The new clutch release bearing contains a grease which is more resistant to heat while maintaining proper lubrication. -Unqte- |
Yikes 3.7 hours... NorCal dealer labor rate is about $250/hour.
If you guys have this issue - get into the shop NOW. Out of warranty looks like an $800+ fix! |
$250 an hour?!? Holy Cali pricing. 😳

There is also a TSB for a creaking noise from the pedal assembly.

Definitely two different noises. The clutch pedal will make noise without the engine running. The throw out bearing only makes noise if the engine is running. I can find the pedal assembly TSB number.

So I had mine replaced quite a few months ago, but now it begs the question of whether the replacement I got was just another "defective" part that will go bad again. Like, are they only just now installing "upgraded" parts when you have it fixed?

I did mine through my dealership a month ago, so I'm getting it "parts warrantied". I also had the older part number. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Who rides around resting their foot on the clutch?
|
Perfect for us MY 2013 folks who are out of warranty now. -_-

Yea it means Toyota is footing the bill for my replacement parts and compensating me for a portion of the labor time. You should call your dealer and see if they will do the same! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The pedal creaking sound(different than the rotational bearing noise) TSB # is 12-215-17. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I've had the pedal squeaking sound (usually happens but will sometimes go away based on maybe temperature/humidity?) for at least a few months now.... along with another issue I can't seem to find talked about on this forum:
When I start my car when it's cold (e-brake on always when starting) and let off the clutch pedal in neutral (foot off brake) my car shudders/judders trying to go forward the slightest bit... but won't bc of the handbrake. it's not even close to violent and a passenger wouldn't notice unless I point it out in advance, but I do when I start my car to go to and leave work. Anyone know if this is possibly related or should I make a new thread? I brought my car to the dealership for the 45k mile service a couple weeks ago and mentioned the squeaky pedal and judder when letting out the clutch after starting. They said it'd be a few hundred dollars just to open up the car to determine the cause and only then see if it's covered under powertrain warranty.... if it's NOT and it's what they think it is, replacing the clutch, they say it would cost me $1,700. rip off or should one of these TSB be covering me? Thanks |
I have the very very annoying squeak in the clutch pedal when i depress it but none of the throwout bearing sound. I know what a bad bearing sounds like i also own some old hondas =p
Will i be able to get the squeak fix? I'm in canada btw |

I've taken mine to the dealership a couple times with some specific issues for them to look into for me and they refuse to even start the car up and listen to it or drive it around the block. "No CEL, no issue" they say. I know for a fact that's bullshit. I'd gladly offer them to hold on to my car for a week if they needed to, to figure it out or catch it acting up. I'm sure they cover more than they deny but it's still frustrating to see so many people denied, ignored, or helped entirely too late as is the case with the TSB. |
Sounds like horsecrap to me that they're saying it's due to resting on the clutch. Most of my 60K miles are highway and I rest my foot on the foot rest, never on the clutch. Sounds more like it's overheating because the part has tolerance issues and shitty lubricant
|

That's exactly the issue. The vast majority of owners aren't complete imbeciles and don't rest their foot on anything other than the footrest. This is just a BS way for Toyota/Subaru to void warranty claims and skirt responsibility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
