Crash Test Videos!! Finally....

If you ask me looks like its a very safe car, look at the rigidity of the roof on the pole impact its amazing. If you look at higher end cars the roof will bend a bit more. I think we have bought ourselves a very safe car!!

BTW Rip to the Toyobarus that were hurt on these videos!!

yasirsawati 07-16-2012 07:30 AM

hmmmm.... cool

titusdrake 07-16-2012 07:34 AM

.the second side impact and the frontal are horrendous. Crunches like a tin can.

I wonder what the speeds were for each impact. Those vids shocked me.

#87 07-16-2012 09:13 AM

Frontal offset is 64 km/h

Side impact is off a 950 kg vehicle at 50 km/h

Pole impact is 29 km/h

Pedestrian test is 40 km/h

3rd video had me cringing a bit. At least the car looks safe for anyone to live another day.

Circuit Motorsports 07-19-2012 09:59 PM

Ouch, that third one is brutal.

Z0rr0 07-23-2012 04:38 PM

i cannot believe the windshield did not break on the 3rd vid.

mattles 07-23-2012 07:59 PM

aluminum hoods always crumple so dramatically, poor cars. Glad to know this thing is safe though, thats pretty cool.

FT-86 SpeedFactory 07-23-2012 11:18 PM

Was going to say while the third looks brutal, the passenger compartment looks to be safe. Sure the car is a loss but your life looks to be "okay".

Mr. Sociable 07-24-2012 12:55 AM

Looks very safe from a passenger standpoint. LOVE that the side impact machine uses Legacy GT wheels

Safety to me has always been the ability to avoid accidents. The fact you can dictate your car in ways other people can't (and you are scanning the road) usually keeps you out of trouble. As long as it isn't a death trap on impact, I'm fine.

rice_classic 07-26-2012 01:33 PM

The deployment of 8 airbags alone should total out the car.

Sheeze.

Current airbag systems are not overly sensitive. They only deploy after severe impact, when car likely sustained major of damage.

spomi 08-29-2012 03:01 AM

It hurts my heart just watching it :(

gwascopter 08-29-2012 03:04 AM

god i love those vids

reeves 08-29-2012 08:01 AM

At least people now know how it'll hold up in case a drift goes wrong :D

baldolera 08-29-2012 08:30 AM

It's kind of tempting to ask them if they wouldn't mind giving me the pair of headlights from the first and second crash cars, since they're still in pretty much mint condition :D

That is what they are designed to do. Crumple zones dissipate the force of the impact to keep you alive.

I wonder how it'll do in that new 25% offset crash test they're rolling out with. Its pretty much putting all the impact stress onto the one A pillar.

Alot of safe cars have done poorly in it. the Lexus IS was one of the worst, the whole a pillar caved in.

Airbags are being kind of wasted in that crash too, since (well some cars the curtains ones dont go off) the head of the crash test dummy is pretty much glancing past the steering wheel airbag and going in the space between the wheel bag and the curtain bag.

Wow! Awesome airbags. This car appears to hold up nicely. Love all the airbags firing off to protect the occupants.
