STI Brembo Calipers the Same Size as BRZ Brembos?

Yes. Even tho the part numbers for pads are different, I found that my nearly new track pads from my 2015 STI are direct fit for the 2017 Performance Pkg BRZ, so there's about $400 I can put to use elsewhere!

Many Brembo OE calipers have similar pad fitments (that's what makes Brembo so cool), but all calipers are vehicle application specific. The BRZ PP Brembos may be the same OE type of caliper as the STI, but are configured differently (one is trailing and the other is leading). Please do not interchange the two.

Oh hell, damn, nooo! You're right, of course- STI front calipers were trailing at 3 o'clock, BRZ is leading at 10. But help me out- are you saying a pad that looks symmetrical and has the same chamfer cuts at both lower corners is somehow different in other ways?

I was just posting about this looking for more info too...

The dealer said that the rear pads have the same part numbers but the fronts are different. Are the brake pads designed differently based on their clock position?

I wouldn't be surprised if they use the same pad shape, most of the oem brembo 4-pots do.

Hey Mike-
Either I wasn't clear or you misunderstood- I was talking about interchanging the pads between the 2 cars not the calipers.
Just confirmed fitment with GLoc, imnotsureaboutbrz

???
Brembo calipers may be different but a lot of the pad shapes are shared between various Brembo calipers.

While many Brembo setups use similar pad shape and caliper type... don't ignore Mike's comment ("All calipers are vehicle application specific").

The piston configuration is unique to each vehicle. Lots of things go into choosing the bore diameter(s), location(s) and features.

Your master cylinder displaces a specific volume of fluid and is designed to have a working pressure range. The vehicle's front/rear weight bias, total weight, and OEM brake bias will also dictate the piston bore(s) total cross-sectional area. The rotor and pad thickness will affect the max excursion of each piston. The force distribution on the pad will determine the modulation behavior (including the assist and anti-lock dynamics). You can also delve into exotic materials and venting for pistons, if you expect ultra-high temperatures. Also, the centerline diameter of the pistons will change with rotor size, since calipers are developed to accommodate a range of rotor ODs and thicknesses.

Mike has his own handle. @CSG Mike :)

The OP messaged us to get clarification on pads and calipers.

Ummmm Mike checking in.

Pads are interchangeable, calipers are not.

In fact, the OEM sized pads can also be used in the CSG x Brembo BBK, although the CSG x Brembo kit can also accept larger (thicker) pads. If you're unable to source larger pads, OEM sized pads will always work in a pinch.

Thanks, Shakenstein. My original comment was about pads only, not calipers. On track next week, weather permitting!

David here. If you are looking at the CSG x Brembo GT kit, we have packaged it with a very good brake pad. ;)
