Would you take this deal?

I'm going to check out an FRS today. 2015, manual, Halo, 11.5k miles. One owner, regularly serviced, clean CarFax. Dealer is willing to let me have a lemon check or mechanic check it out. Should I?

They're asking 19k but said they're willing to negotiate between 17-18k before ttl.

Car has had Toyota emblems put on, looks like a new air filter (k&n I believe), and tinted windows. Otherwise it looks bone stock.

Would you?

That would be a fantastic deal for 17-18k Still reasonable at 19.

Thanks! I thought it sounded great too, but I wanted to ask the powers that be here at this forum :)

Shinchu 03-11-2017 01:09 PM

 yup i agree with kaka. Under 20 would be good. I have about 8k miles on my 16 i bought last feb. So 11k on a 15 is not bad at all.
Look at shocks and springs. If they are cleaner than the rest of the underbody, you know it had aftermarket suspension. Just something to consider but woulnt be a deal breaker by any means.

Just go in there in your best richard rawlins voice, ask how much is this 15 thousand dollar car?

Awesome deal for the price. For all intents and purposes, it's practically new at 11.5k miles.

It's effectively like getting the car for 30% off at the expense of 11.5k miles. That's a deal I'd take.

Sounds like an OK deal. Unfortunately if you don't buy it someone else will.

Welp, back-in-the-day, when we would see a "cherry" looking car in a yard along side of the road, with a big sign and a unreal price posted on it ....... that's the first question we would ask if we stopped ....... :D

Well I checked it out. The car looks pretty much brand new. It drove like it was new too. The only things I noticed were Toyota emblems, and the door handle plastic was slightly wiggly (maybe someone vinyled them and then put it back to stock before selling?) but it was no big deal. They moved like a centimeter. Maybe it was normal wear and tear.

They were able to get me out the door for 20,800 INCLUDING all taxes, fees, title etc. I put a deposit on the car to hold it. and a mechanic is doing a PPI on Monday. I really don't think there is anything wrong with it, but just as a piece of mind. Kelly blue book was like 180 bucks cheaper than the price they got me, so I figure the deal wasn't bad out the door. Also my Mazda is almost dead so it's time.

Only other thing I noticed was a small dip in the dash above the head unit. Does it normally dip in the middle? Almost seemed like maybe someone clamped something on there.

Probably a phone mount or something. As long as it doesnt bother you I doubt its a real issue

Not really. That's what I thought, maybe. My girlfriend seemed to think it was normal and part of the car. Maybe with enough time it'll correct itself, lol.

Small dip in the dash, normal. There have been several people get the dash replaced under warranty with no change. Something about the glue right over the center vents right there. If its the top dash pad you're talking about anyways...

Yes, exactly. It's right over the center vents, the top dash pad. That's good to know that it's a common thing - although to be honest I barely noticed it. Whenever I pick the car up I'll post a picture.
