OZ Ultraleggera 18x8+48 anthracite on Firestorm

10 Attachment(s)
Just picked these up today.

They're 18x8+48 OZ Ultraleggeras in Anthracite.

Tires are 225/40/18 Continental Sport Contact 2s.

Note - hub centric rings needed with these.

Initial impressions - tons more grip than the OEM 16s I was on, heavier steering response, increased ride harshness and more road noise. Pretty much as one would expect.

The weight of the tires is around 23 lbs each and the wheels are around 18 each so they're pretty much equivalent to the OEM 17" setup in terms of weight.

I know you can go lighter (had the choice of some 17" Aleggeritas which we test fitted) but these simply looked better on the car to me and there's no real performance negatives compared to OEM, just more grip.

So, enjoy.

ultra 07-14-2012 05:14 PM

And yes, I know it needs a drop.

Waiting for the Racecompengineering starter pack to come out then just an exhaust, some brake pads, high temp fluid and I think I'll be all done here.
:)

For track stuff I think I'll just be sticking my 16s back on with some R compound rubber.

Very nice combo!

Is that the Matte Graphite Silver?

Yessir.

MarkMash 07-15-2012 05:59 AM

I actually don't think it needs a drop there at all. I kinda like that look!

Thanks heaps for posting though! It's either these or the enkei gtc01's for me! I know these are a much better wheel though..... I'm surprised you found the steering more heavy too.

RaceR 07-15-2012 08:44 AM

Looks great on the firestorm! :)

ultra 07-15-2012 08:52 AM

I was expecting the steering to be a little heavier because my original wheels were the OEM 16s. Shouldn't be much heavier

Overall it's much more planted

:)

16's? So the 17s are only US standard?

MarkMash 07-15-2012 09:23 AM

the cheaper model comes with some nice looking 16" wheels in Australia

MarkMash 07-15-2012 09:26 AM

btw, where did you get the hub rings from? anywhere specific? is there any specific type you got? did you have to get them separately? cheers again!

jeebus 07-15-2012 11:17 AM

That looks fantastic. I think we all get a little obsessed with flush fitting rims and tires, but sometimes the right setup comes along and it all just works without being too agressive. I even think the ride height looks fine.

Bahraini86 07-15-2012 02:18 PM

Nice wheels buddy, yalla lowering time now ;)

Phaedrus29 07-17-2012 07:19 PM

Looks amazing. Also interested in any info you could offer about the hub centric rings. Any fitment issues?

normally I'd be all, "you could use a wider rim out back" or "get an inch drop" but this setup somehow looks good as is

Lonewolf 07-18-2012 05:10 PM

Oh yeah, that looks good

SUB-FT86 07-18-2012 06:57 PM

I am so in love with the profile shape. Its how a tasteful sports car needs to look. I'll take a low-slung GT sports car shape any day over muscle car profile.

MVJ1975 07-18-2012 07:41 PM

Looks great, IMO. I'm seriously waffling on wheel size here. I love the look of the 18s but keep going back to stock 17x7 for performance reasons. I'm not overly disturbed by the wheel gap, but these just look... awesome.

JohnATL 07-18-2012 10:09 PM

I like. Gap doesn't bother me.

Yep but I still changed mine for other wheels.

By the way, as far as weight goes... The stock 16s on the yokohama tyres is about 16.7kg all up. The wheel is apparently about 7.2kg of this

Enigmus 07-19-2012 11:16 AM

is it me or is anthracite another name for gunmetal? either way my favorite

I'm confused as well.

For the Ultraleggera, it's either bright silver (Crystal Titanium) which is avail now, or Matte Graphite which appears to be released in Sept.

Checked with a local distro and tire-rack.

Definitely doesn't look bright silver though. If that's anthracite maybe a few years old model?

ultra 07-19-2012 04:00 PM

Anthracite, brand new.

My iPhone and the lighting condition might account for the sheen (although the rims do bounce back light - they're not matte).

I was just thinking the same. I was wondering if it was already lowered or not. IMHO, it looks pretty good as is, but, of course, that all depends on the individual. Looks good man! :w00t:

ultra 07-19-2012 04:25 PM

It's stock.

Will be getting a hair more 'low' when Race Comp Engineering come out with their Starter Kit (assuming I don't go to the Dark Side and go broke on some KW V3s or their JRZs).

Not going for a drastic drop - looks OK to me too, I just like to fine tune.

According to the OZ webpage, the options are Matt Graphite Silver and Crystal Titanium. On Tirerack, I see Matte Graphite Silver and Bright Silver. Hrmmmmmm....

Yep - and the only reason I'm curious is the antracite/matte graphite is the one I want, and told not till Sept. The bright silver is avail. I want the same color tone as the OP. :P

Abflug 07-19-2012 05:37 PM

Great choice ultra!

You´re doing it right!

The car looks great with these! The heavier steering response may be because the mass is concentrated further from the hub. Also, it could be the the offset places the tires on a slightly wider track causing an increased scrub radius that would create a heavier steering feel. I would like to see how the steering feels compared to the stock 17" ones that came on my car.

To be perfectly honest I bought them off the shelf from a tire shop here in Dubai and not online so I'm guessing that they're Anthracite...versus Matte graphite silver or what have you.

At any rate they're certainly not the bright silver because IRL they appear to be grey, with a slight sheen.

I would suggest getting these wheels in any non-black-matte color so that you can see the wheel fill the wells visually.

Hope that helps!

jonnyboy 07-20-2012 09:39 AM

Very nice, the exact design/size/colour I wanted to get, but there weren't any shops that had them in stock...

Moving from thestock 17" to 225/40/18, the steering is a little heavier, probably due to the wider track and increased width of the tyres, but there definitely is more grip

Imti 07-21-2012 04:31 AM

That wheel color compliments the red of GT86 like no other I have seen. Well done picking up these wheels!

RebootWindows 07-21-2012 04:54 AM

Nice job they look amazin man!!!

AkaJabari 07-22-2012 09:21 AM

I actually have a set of these in black that are currently mounted on my tC.

http://i49.tinypic.com/nben8z.jpg

I've thought about swapping them over but the tires are a bit overkill at 245/35 (Forced Induction... Needs the traction) Seeing these pics though, I might just have to swap them over for a weekend...

Thobjo 08-28-2012 07:59 AM

Looks damn good.

Just bought the same rims.. in gold.

Very excited to see how it matches Galaxy Blue/Ultramarine, might get powdercoated black later on.

Tronic 04-20-2014 06:19 AM

where can i get those rims in dubai ?
