Frustrated with auto repairs
So I had a door ding when my car was parked and someone hit my car. No big deal called insurance to take care of it.
Fast forward to repairs. Paint was spot on and done well but they missed a dime sized spot because they forgot to remove a small amount of tape. So they agreed to paint it and fix it in a couple of days. Second attempt at picking the car up everything was perfect and I was happy to take the car home.... Until I looked in the back seat. Seat was torn. Investigated further...... Rodents had chewed through my back seats and under the passenger front seat..... Rant over.... What would you guys do in this situation? I've missed work and spent money on Uber to get my car on two separate occasions only to fail at receiving my car. |
How long was your car at the paint shop .. ??
Could the rodent damage have occurred prior to the time you took it into the shop ..... and you hadn't noticed it .. ?? humfrz |

Not sure it is an automatic assumption that it happened there (nothing saying it didn't either though). |
Car was detailed in and out prior to the first attempt to pick up. Damage happened during the 3 days they had it to touch up the paint from the spot they missed during the initial fix

Pain in the ass but as long as they make it good. The missed days and Uber rides just sort of fall into the shit that happens when you own a car category in my outlook on life. |
Also to note I've never had a rodent problem ever in my house and I live in middle class suburbs. Don't live on a farm, don't ever visit and park where there might be barns. If I had a rodent problem ever I wouldn't have to feed my snake lol

Very sorry this happened to you.
Hopefully your auto insurance company will deal with this incident for you. It is typical to find your vehicle unlocked, even sometimes with windows open, when it's in for repair. Happens at Dealerships all the time. Others just don't care about your car as you would. |

Ya, as bad as the seats could be if they get to wiring then it can be way worse. Wonder how they got into the car in the first place? |

Well it was a little more than a ding |

Saw the top half of the pic and thought it wasn't that bad. Scrolled a little further down and oh shit never mind |

It is the damned suburban, punk ass, rebelling against rich mommy and daddy squirrels that are the issue https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...28909ea046.jpg The nice simple rural mouse is happy in the barn https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...8362319861.jpg |
I wonder if the twins use that soy-based wire insulation that has led to so many problems with Toyotas and some other makes.
Did you know Toyota has an anti-rodent tape meant to cover wire looms? It apparently has capsaicin (red pepper) to keep the bastards away. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/n...ents/index.htm |
I would probably put a rat trap under the sear once you get it back. Just for a week or so just to be sure if your worried about it.

The shop is covering everything and getting me new sard seat cover replacements Apparently my car wasn't the only one this happened to. |

My solution is...buy shittier condition cars and don't worry if it gets scratches lol. My new MR2 was a track beater, and it got a huge key mark or something on it right after I bought it. DGAF. Rain, lots of shit from trees stuck on it, DGAF. Accidentally drop some bolt onto the paint, I didn't even bother to check if it made a scratch. The feeling of freedom is amazing.
If I get a nicer car I would wrap the whole car and keep it in garage queen duty. If it has to be daily driven, wrap is a must, although for that "ding" it wouldn't have done you any good. Rodents can eat upholstery that fast? :O That is ... terrifying. Though if it makes you feel any better, the amount of flame retardant those rats ate probably gave them cancer and made them unable to reproduce lol. |
Did they leave the windows down on the car or something? Sheesh, they must really have a problem in their shop if the critters got in there and ripped up your interior over a couple of days.

My car is currently in the body shop. Some kid shot it up with a BB gun. Paint chips on the hood, a pillar, bumper, passenger door, and circles in the windshield.
I went to the body shop yesterday to check the progress after a week. The car was sitting in the shop with no windshield, both windows rolled down, and no quarter glass. Wherever they painted, they removed the glass and weather stripping so the paint and or clear actually covered the whole panel that is exposed. So I would say that if a place like that had rodents, I see this situation being very possible... |

Friends in car. "Something smells like shit in here". You. "Nah Bro .... not like there was a rodent in my car shitting all over the place."
Time to buy another car. |

my infiniti got bumped but none of the paint was damaged but there was a huge indent. so i got a hammer and hammered it out. and stopped worrying about it also i imagine it would only take a couple hours or less for a rat to do that much damage underestimating a rodent is like underestimating a 2 year old with a marker for 5 minutes while you go to the bathroom and said 2 year old runs out of paper and starts on the wall |
