Spoiler advice for 2017 86
How's it going?
I'm looking for a spoiler for my 86, preferably the trd one or at least that style. Has anyone any experience with the cheaper ones on eBay? http://m.ebay.com/itm/381814729102 Are they any good or should I just try and get a genuine trd one? And is the trunk the same shape on the 86 as it is on the frs? And is the whiteout the same color white as the halo version? Thanks for the help! |

1) Review: I love the fit and finish of the genuine spoiler, it's great and comes with weather stripping to keep moisture from getting underneath. The lip look on the back perfectly compliments the lines in my opinion. I bought mine from japanparts.com 2) The 86/BRZ/FR-S trunk shape is identical, so spoilers are compatible across all 3. 3) Halo is NOT the same colour as whiteout, the hue of whiteout is more pearl, just FYI. 4) I can't speak for non-genuine TRD spoilers, but there are some members here who love them. @Mr.Impreza may be able to help with that and point you to a legit source to buy them. |
@Rakshaa Thanks for the advice! With the trd spoiler from japanparts did you have to drill holes in your trunk or did you just use 3m tape?

No problem! You can drill holes of you want (instructions recommend doing so) but mine is held with the 3M tape that it came with plus some urethane paste to hold it down. No issues in 3 years and 100k kms with it coming off :) Pics from today, not great but you get the idea. If you want close ups or different angles let me know. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5e5d3fb453.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e18555c7a6.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There is only one piece to it for the JDM TRD spoiler. You might be referring to the RS 1.0 spoiler, but you can only order that from a dealer with an RS 1.0 VIN. That one is a different design and has parts on the side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I really like the 2017 BRZ spoiler. Not sure if it is in your price range.

And yes, just some along the edges on the left and right side where most of the pressure is to stay on. The spoiler should come with 3M tape on it already so don't need to worry about the centre. I don't think it matters what type to use, and I forget the exact kind I used. Sorry about that, but I can confirm I have had no issues of it falling off :) |

Got the spoiler today and it looks great! How did you remove the bolts from the spoiler before you installed it? |

Sorry for the late reply bud - you've probably figured it all out by now, but there were a couple screws holding the bolts in, just take them out. As for the black 3M squares, I'm guessing for the two ends as that is where the most pressure to come off will be. I honestly don't remember using those :p Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just remembered why I didn't use those - they are to cover your OEM spoiler drilled holes as the TRD one does not match up with those. If you do not have an OEM spoiler then you don't need those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The bolts on the spoiler were encased in plastic and glued to the spoiler so I just cut them off and sanded down the edges. Applied some poly urethane to the spots were there was no double sided tape and it seems to be held firmly in place. Sent from my Z978 using Tapatalk |
