Harrop|Michelin Slicks|Bilstein|Os Giken|SPL|Voltex|InGs - The 350whp griffon
This is my track build - a car dedicated for time attack on the track.
Living in Europe (switzerland), i have access to a large range of track, from local club to F1 track. The simple goal to make the car as fast as possible with a good reliability - with virtually no budget restriction, so i'm trying to get only the best parts available on the market for the build. https://i94.servimg.com/u/f94/18/95/58/38/receiv10.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f94/18/95/58/38/subaru12.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f94/18/95/58/38/subaru13.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f94/18/95/58/38/boite_13.jpg [update October 2019] Transmission swap (CD009) done, forged FA20 from Bluemoon ordered. This sounds super-cool with some very unusual and serious components - keep us posted on your progress and I personally can't wait to see it take shape!
|
Goddang, that must have been a hell of a professional move.
|
You had me at hello.
|

To answer your question, I moved to a position of finance director in a Swiss multinational company. And I created my own company too, which is doing quite well so far!
But back to topic! Some Credits: thanks to @MaximeT for all the help for choosing my parts. I have received the Ace Anaconda 48.2mm - that's quite a piece of exhaust! https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0712.jpg https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0713.jpg This 4-1 setup is supposed to give more high end output, to the expense of less Torque. Since I go FI, torque should not be a problem anyway! Speaking about FI... I have received the Harrop as well! The overall package is very impressive - I was not expecting this. https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0724.jpg I know the Edelbrock is the cookie cutter solution in the US, but I wanted something different. Since I'm in Europe, local support in both case (Edelbrock or Harrop) would not make a difference. This Harrop kit is the first one to sell in France, and from what it seems, I might have the only Harrop Supercharged GT86 in Europe. https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0723.jpg https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0722.jpg I purchased an oil cooler from Harrop as well; this is based on a Setrab Core. https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0813.jpg And to finish, a differential cover, may the need to add a differential cooler arises. https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0726.jpg |
Great project! As much information as possible please!

This should be pretty interesting

I've received my wheel rims! Thanks to @Gruppe-s for a smooth transaction. I can only recommend to go through them - prices are ok, customer service is top notch, and they answer 24/24 - I'm even wondering if they sleep sometimes!
https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0815.jpg https://i37.servimg.com/u/f37/18/95/58/38/img_0816.jpg So what we get here are Volks ZE40 in 17*9.5 ET 40 That should fit in both front and rear with coilovers, according to Rays. I will start to wrap around them Michelin PS CUP 2 in 255/40/17 before moving on to full slicks. They'll go together with Project Kics lug nuts http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server54....1280.1280.jpg I've mounted as well my studded tyres for the last winter track of the season (ice circuit). Rims are 16inch from 1999 Subaru Forester S - perfect for the purpose of ice tracks! https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0812.jpg |
Great rims!
What do they weigh? |
Quote:
They're very similar in design to the Volk CE28n, so i guess around 7.5 kg (16lbs) I'll weight them and i'll share. |
Estimation was spot on, interestingly! 7.5kg for 17*9.5; that's really light if you ask me.
https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0834.jpg Otherwise, I continued to receive some deliveries. First, a BBK: RR racing stage 4 - those are for the rear, the front will come later. https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0831.jpg https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0833.jpg Then a bunch of smaller items Carbone Lorraine RC6e brake pads https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0832.jpg ARP studs https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0827.jpg Perrin steering rack lockdown https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0829.jpg Thanks to @CounterSpace Garage for the delivery of all of this. Some much bigger parts have been received from them too, I'll share when i'll have time to get some pictures! |
7.5 kg is very light for a 9.5x17 (OEM wheels are 9.2 kg and smaller size).
Great choice! Thank you for the answer! Very very good stuff all around! Will the steering be stiffer with the Steering Rack Lockdown? On the homepage they say that there might be some increase of noise, vibration, and harshness. In which situation, is there any experience with that? Because vibrations in the steering are not great |
The steering rack lockdown is not installed yet, so I can't answer on driver feedback so far. There should be an increase of NVH; though it should be minimal.
Unfortunately, it will be difficult to assess to which degree it adds NVH once installed, since I will install all my hardened bushings and the new suspension in the same time - all of them will increase NVH too. |
Ok with all the other stuff installed at the same time it would be impossible to filter the benefit from the steering rack lockdown.
But sounds like an easy mod. |
I've just received something which will be a massive upgrade, straight from TMG, the toyota branch managing the european GT86 cup.
https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0836.jpg Opening the carton, and got some mechanical porn inside! Bilstein MDS, 2 ways coilovers, with relatively stiff springs: 14kg front and 18kg rear. they're valved specifically for the needs of the 86cups; i.e. 86s on full slicks! https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0837.jpg https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0839.jpg https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0840.jpg https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0841.jpg https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/img_0842.jpg I can't wait to mount everything... All my cartons are in my garage; waiting to go on the car! |
Know like you feel... there is lot of stuff waiting for my car getting ready for the saison.
Great coilovers! Street legal? |
The springs have CE markings, so yes.
There is no requirement on the shocks themselves from my knowledge, as they are considered replacement parts, hence can be sourced outside of the manufacturer. |
The price you got on those wheels are not just OK, you got a crazy price. The shipping was expensive, lol!!! Thank you for a smooth sale and glad the wheels arrived undamaged.
|
A small update: here's a video of my last snow track session of the season.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX6MJzK3Iw4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX6MJzK3Iw4[/ame] I haven't installed any part yet due to lack of time - which makes for 20k worth of spares actually rotting in my garage... I'll install them in April, ready to go for the track season :D |
Car is now reaching completion - only the aero is pending (4 months waiting time from Voltex)
https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/18/95/58/38/voitur10.jpg A track session is planned on 28th May to test the build so far. |
Great build !! I'm sure you are anxiously waiting to get it out on the track.
Can that damper setup be purchased in the US as well? |

In Europe, the only way to get them is to go through someone who owns a GT86cup, and pretend it is a replacement part. |
Final touch on the car are being installed, with a full aero kit from InGs, and full interior.
Can't wait to have the car back on the track :) |
Awesome build!

Big update: aero package is installed, custom paint job is done, wing is in place

This is one of the nicest builds I've seen done by a private individual. The looks are fantastic, and the performance I'm sure is too given your parts list. I'd love to see some video of you on track in this beast. If you haven't yet, it'd be worth the road-trip to drive the Nurburgring in this beast!
|
Thanks for the feedback :)
I tracked it a lot already, though not yet in this final form. I’ll try to get to magny cours in France before November.... Unfortunately my daily wheels just broke down today, and my track wheels are wrapped with slicks; hence not usable in the street to drive to the track. I’ve just purchased a set of volks te37SL 18x9,5 but they need the time to come from Japan |
Looks really good! Keep posting us the porn shots!
|
Nice build!
is it easy to get all the modifications street legal in France? |
You're doing a great job on this car. What do you think of the coilovers?
- Andrew |
Coil overs are a perfect fit on a smooth track (which is what we have in France anyway)
For a daily drive, it’s totally unmanageable - way too stiff, not done for «*normal*» roads. The car has a nvh which is way too high for road drive anyway. |

Nice build! Very jealous of that cookie cutter :) Move to the Netherlands, Im sure you can drive that car legally here! :D :D AND we have super flat roads for your coils
|
props on originality
|
:drool::drool: Ings aero looks so good!!!
Any updates on the SPG XL? Does it work with Nagisa rail perfectly? I want to get that seat too but not so sure about the fitment since it is quite a large seat. |
