From $37,150 drive away.

If you want to book a test drive you need to do it online as well as actually buy the car online. More here.

interesting way to go about it, seems much smoother than toyota... free servicing too is a pretty good incentive

FT86_Zero 07-13-2012 07:30 PM

still think 86 is a bit better in overall.......

BRAWL 07-13-2012 07:32 PM

So for about $3k more you get Sat Nav (whoop dee doo) and heated leather seats and have to pay for your services?

No regret signing up to buy the 86, but that is a good deal for what you are getting from Subaru. Also, you will be waiting a LONG time for your BRZ if the wait list for the 86 is anything to go by :(

I'm not a fan of free servicing because the reality is that its built into the cost of the car. Because I use my car for work I am depreciating the cost of that servicing over the 3-5 years that I own the car for, where as if I get my car serviced and pay the $200, I can claim that as an immediate tax deduction.

/end of tax lesson

For a purely personal vehicle - free servicing is great :-)

anyone thinking of jumping ship?

the BRZ will be harsher handling (especially on our pothole ridden Sydney roads) but given it's branding and limited supply it will have a higher resale value. Shame about that hideous silver dash (not that the fake carbon is much better).

Anyone know if satnav is optional? it doesn't seem to be?

Dorikin 07-13-2012 07:43 PM

I will be popping into my local Subaru dealership today. Made a few calls and appears promising I'll get a BRZ before an 86 so we'll see. I'll report back this arvo.

SatNav is optional as are heated seats and trim.

Just made 3 calls to seperate dealers around Sydney and they all seem confident if I am lucky I can get a car by December this year.

Ahh ok - just find it strange that none of the articles i've read mentions it as options - it does for the leather/heated seats though.

gotta feel for the people that bought the GT - for $3k more they could of had a whole lot more.

What does it have which is that much better over the GT?

Yeah, if both had been available at the same time I would've gone for the BRZ - but I get my car next week, instead of next year. That counts for a lot.

17s, brakes, start button, lsd in auto and a badge the Nick Senior made in his garage one night after drinking too much wine.

and also HIDs, DRLs, dual climate control, alloy pedals, digital speedo - well worth the extra $3k.

lol the BRZ badge is just hideous - hopefully you can opt out of getting one

Only thing I still think would be worth it over the GT is the digital speedo, the rest wouldnt make a difference to most, still dont understand why they have dual climate control in a car with as much internal cabin volume as a commodore boot. haha

Paragon 07-13-2012 09:24 PM

digital speedo, HIDs and brakes make it worthwhile for me, everything else I'm meh about

Yep, once you've had proper HIDs (not the cheap kits), you don't want to go back.

I reckon there's easily $5k more value in a BRZ than a GT. Then again, I reckon there's a few grand value in the GTS over the BRZ.

My decision has been made.

I agree, this is spec i want. Hopefully the wait is not too long. Otherwise the GT could be an option with December delivery. But thinking i will wait for the car i want and pay cash.

w arghh x 07-13-2012 09:37 PM

The BRZ still has that awful 70's porn mustache on the front bumper tho....that's a $3k drop right there!

Jokes aside, it's definitely a good alternative.

Gums 07-13-2012 09:41 PM

BRZ also has Folding Mirrors for AUS, (unlike some markets) though cannot see myself using them.

Ordered mine Thursday from Dan at Penrith, no bullshit, great service.

Highly recommend them.

Trust me, parking at shopping centers and these come in handy :)

If it's like the GTS then it's not automatic - gotta press a button for them to fold in. Meh im not fussed.

But got to hand it to Subaru Australia - they've managed to fit this nicely between the GT and GTS and price it to the Toyotas. And love this online ordering system they've got going - this way you will know exactly what order number you are and when you'll get your car. And also the fact that the price is set in stone. No need to have dealers bullshit you as to when it will arrive and how much 'extra' you have to pay.

Bravo Subaru Australia!

So does that mean there's a Toyota in your future?

Does the GT86 not have electric retractable side mirrors?

I prefer to think of it as a Subaru with a Toyota badge.

But with Sat Nav and not Shiny Silver plastic Carbon Fauxbre. :D

Dorikin 07-14-2012 12:26 AM

Just got back from a Subaru dealer. Preordering now gives no guarantee you get a car faster. Everyone has to order online, price not negotiable and $3k deposit not negotiable. He couldn't tell me how much options were as a rough estimate either. He did say you would most likely get a brz before June 2013 if you order on Monday.

Unfortunately not, I expect I will know more next week, just happy to get my order in!

Took the BRZ for a test drive this afternoon. I couldn't believe how slow and lacking in torque the car was. I didnt have high expectations but came out quite disappointed. Promptly got my preorder deposit back from the dealer. I think another 100Nm of torque is what it needs.

Did you play in the twisties? This car is all about cornering rather than flat out acceleration.

That said, if you didn't like it then that is fine as it is you and only you that has to like it enough to buy it :)

Yeah handling was fantastic and the car sounded great! Interior felt a bit cheap though and the clutch could have been a bit heavier, my only other criticisms.

I actually found the interior to be quite nice FOR A TOYOTA ;) a bit cheap in places but overall feel was pretty good IMHO.

I have an 86 GT and it does have retractable side mirrors. There's a button next to the mirror adjuster.

You've gotta add fixing that offensively ugly front on the BRZ to the $3k though.

Yeah, it is pretty rude with that Black plastic nonsense there. Otherwise looks very much the same (as it should really).

crimespree 07-15-2012 06:06 AM

does that 37.1k include metallic paint?

Can't wait to see this system working as of tomorrow... perhaps Toyota will learn something.
If all cars were sold at full RRP, then you could order everything online and save the shitfight that usually ensues.. you know. what's your best price and then going to 5 other dealers to save $50....
Some of the stories that customers have told me over the years deserve to be published!

Seriously though, I hope it is a smooth experience.

Nambo 07-15-2012 08:04 AM

Subaru website has been updated,

You can build and find out the price of a BRZ similar to their other vehicles.

The floor mats are an additional $175 and the Spare wheel carpet mat is an additional $175 too.

Premium pack 'Leather & Alcantra heated seats' are an additional $1,500.
