Tap Turn
Hi folks... I've searched around on these forums and haven't found anything, and so I figured I'd post. After test driving an FR-S last weekend and immediately signing papers to buy one, I came on here looking for solutions to two ridiculously minor gripes I had with it. I'll worry about the second gripe later on since it's even less of a thing than this one.
What I want: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...light=tap+turn I don't know really if there's an official name for that feature, but it's the thing where the signal light goes 3 times automatically when you tap the bar. The two cars I'm currently driving (trading one in, selling the other) both do this, and I'm so used to it that I'd pay a bit to get it back. I wouldn't mind forking out ~$100 for something like this, but figuring this out myself is way over my head. Has anyone tried doing anything like this with their car? tl;dr - I want to make my car signal light go 3 times automatically with a tap. Help! --- UPDATE (July 21). http://www.autowindow.com/orderTAP.html $80 plus shipping. |
Definitely interested in this also, so used to it in my other cars
|
Yeah, had this on my Ford Transit Connect. It doesn't seem like a big feature but, once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.
|
Wished Subaru had included it on these cars. I have it on my GTI and as stated above...it becomes second nature to use it.
Now I'm making lane changes and such looking as if I'm a dufus with my signal...giving one blink at that. |

Sounds like there is some interest here so I'll definitely keep on top of this and keep the thread updated. |
Ugh I miss that part of my GTI horribly!

Three flashes? Wow, that's far too short in my opinion. I have the signal on until the lane change is done. You folks must be trusting of other drives, assuming they actually pay attention! :)

With this guy's thing you can set 0 (off), 3, 4, or 5 flashes, and it'll have cancelling.
Personally, I find 3 flashes is the perfect length to pace your lane change to be smooth but not annoyingly slow. I never trust anyone else or assume anyone else is paying attention on the road, but that's a whole different story. The only time this should be an issue is on a 3+ lane road. |
Yeah, i need this. Still stuck on how my S4 did it so it's just habit now and i only get half a blink if i don't remember to click it all the way.
|
Update: Guy has confirmed it should work based on the electrical diagram cobrabyte posted above. He's also started selling it as of today.
http://www.autowindow.com/orderTAP.html I'll edit the first post as well. |
Any info on the install? Is it just a new relay you remove the stock one and add in the modified one?
|
It seems he also sells other hardware to remotely lower the windows. A lot of people are interested in that too. Good find OP.
|
I have his Tap Turn I system, I used it in my STi, beautiful system and excellently put together. Nothing but positive remarks for his products.

He confirmed it should work based on the electrical diagrams, and yeah, apparently you just find the source of the tick sound, and replace the stock Denso module with his. |
Just placed an order for one. It will be nice to have the three blink tap feature on my BRZ. Since my GTI came with it I've grown to appreciate this feature.
Can't tell you how many times I've done a half blink lane change with my BRZ the past few weeks. |
This should work for the FR-S also right?
|
Never had this on a vehicle, but am definitely GOING TO!. As far as his window modules, they look to integrate to the German cars only. Otherwise he utilizes DEI (known for owning Viper, Python, etc...) 530T window automation modules. This would require a bit more work than most people are probably comfortable with... I have installed these on all my vehicles to remotely roll up or down the windows, as well as using Field Disturbance, or Mass Sensors, to be able to arm the car with the windows down and roll them up when someone gets too close.

If it works on our cars i want!

Ordered. Thanks again for the heads-up!

Purchased as well. Thanks for the link.

can someone post a DIY when you get this just to show how hard/easy the install is?

Says you can program it for more than 3 flashes if you want.. The 3 flash thing is just a common tap-flash configuration equiped in some cars and trucks. I had it in my last truck and loved it.. obviously there are times for it - and other times 3 isnt enough so you have to do it manually. |
Here's a thought I had. If other production vehicles have this, and its driven by the flasher, could you possible just purchase the flasher from one of those cars and plug it in, assuming it is plug compatible?

Will be checking this out! I do like the additional features of the hazard lights too!
Was raining down hard today, was wishing I had the F1 style rear-fog going! :D |
With your head under the steering wheel, the flasher sits just below the steering column, just to the left. It's an 8-pin Toyota-style flasher, and the wire harness faces the firewall.
I know this because I can no longer hear factory turn signals, so had to replace mine with a louder one...:) |

A DIY and review of this would be great once someone installs it

Sounds pretty much plug and play right? Does this device also remotely control the windows or is this just for the tap turn feature? |
