Nah just pointing out the proper sub. Damn noob.

extrashaky 01-28-2017 11:39 PM

Too bad it's so ugly. Once it's retired from racing, Tcoat can buy it and put it out for hire as a snow plow.

It's not only a photos. It's actual article about HKS GTS800... so it's in general section & not in photo/vid section

Damn oldie

That's a hell of a spatula on the front of the car. @VeloxEric, what do you think the airfoil-shaped uprights on the sides of the splitters are for? It seems like they curve in to touch the body, so they would trap air at the front instead of directing it somewhere.

More consistent front end downforce in yaw would be my guess.

I think you're right. More pics in the article show them as cupped; the pics in the thread make it seem vertical.

jamal 01-29-2017 12:04 AM

Well, trapping air is pretty much how a splitter makes downforce- if the splitter just sticks out the side as a flat plane that part is not really doing much (except being very pitch sensitive). These use an airfoil shape instead of your standard endplate and fence, which probably means more force but less drag. Andrew has even applied for a patent on this.

Good times

extrashaky 01-30-2017 01:41 AM

I think it would make a great parade vehicle. You could seat some pageant girls up top on the wing to wave at the crowds and have midgets dancing on the platform up front.

I remembered I had seen this somewhere before.

Not the first time someone has built an absurd time attack car.

This will either make thing all that more interesting or all that more disappointing.

VerusEric 02-01-2017 09:52 PM

Honestly, the design likely will work. How well will be determined when it starts racing but AMB, like Velox, does CFD analysis as part of his development process.

That being said, he wouldn't design something that isn't better or at the very least functional without proving it in simulation first. While there are a lot of people who still may not fully believe in CFD analysis, it is extremely powerful and, to my knowledge, only way to improve performance aerodynamically without producing a single component.

Front wing is on par for racing at this level, if not a bit small honestly.

Thanks,
Eric

A bit small? If it was you guys, how & what other things would you do?

I don't doubt that it will work. The aerodynamics of it make sense in a purpose-built vehicle intended solely for an event where you design for every advantage you can get.

But it's still ugly as hell. Street ricers are going to see that and say, "I want that! Panties are gonna drop with a wet smack when I cruise the Walmart parking lot with that lip on my car!"
