Wheel Directory: OZ Ultraleggera 17x8.0 +48

http://www.darrendriven.com/ft86/title.png

Hey all,

Just mounted my tires and wheels last night...

Since this is not meant to be a competition car, but a driver with solid limits, I went with a streetable combo:

17x8.0 +48 OZ Ultraleggeras
OE sized Michelin Pilot Super Sport

I weighed my new setup at 2.9-3.0 pounds lighter per corner versus OE, and yes, that includes TPMS senders.

The wheels grow a half-inch inward and outward versus stock, so they did pop out of the wheel wells about 12mms

I have been actively modifying and buying various wheels and tires (mostly for motor sports applications) for just under 10 years, and i must say i was surprised... The lighter weight was more noticeable than I expected. Of course the tires are markedly better, but that's not at all surprising.

Heres a rough pic right after install. As many of us know, yes, it needs a drop! The ride height and exhaust are next!

Thanks,

Paul

Nice combo.

I'm trying to decide what colour I want my Ultraleggeras in... Gloss black or gunmetal/graphite (on an ultramarine FR-S)

Thanks for the link... I edited the OP. SmugMug works just fine, but I just learned it's hard to get the actual photo URL off an iPad instead of the page URL. :iono:

I'll have to ask my friend , he ordered the 2 logo's ( the red R.S logo and the silver Renault Sport logo ) for me.
He's also on the forum here , you probably know him ( Dixie , also with a black 250 )

how do you like those tires? How noisy are they? How is mileage compared to stock.

The set-up has been on the car for exactly 20 hours and 30 miles, so I can't speak to mileage, BUT.... the reason I went with these tires was because I had the exact same tires (except 225s) put on the girlfriend's 2005 Z4 in March, and they have been outstanding. They are the best of 4 different types of tires at a comparable level of performance (max performance / non-competition)

On the Z4, noise is far superior to comparable Bridgestones or Dunlops.

They're comparable in noise to a far softer Hankook (tread wear 240 vs 300), but the Michelins wear FAR slower and more evenly. Sure, the RSs are stickier in max dry conditions, but they're useless in the rain (relatively) and will heat cycle out of life faster.

If your car is a driver, I'd take the Michelins with no hesitation. Best of all worlds at a fair price.

I love these wheels...you have good taste :w00t:

As requested:

I will take more serious ones with a real camera once I get the stance right, etc., but until then...

Ultraleggeras are one of my favorite style of rim, very nice choice! wish OZ made them wider tho!

DarrenDriven 07-14-2012 02:24 AM

Are those +48 offset?

There was another car at the dealership with these on it...

Can you get a closer pic of how much stretch? I am getting these exact wheels and tires, just deciding on color and tire size.

Will do, but I don't really know if it's really 'stretched'. I mean an 8" wheel is just over 203 mm wide OUTSIDE the beads. Its safe enough the assembly can be laid on the ground without the rim making contact with the pavement...

Sure, I bought the 8s so I can 1- have better offset, and 2- have headroom to bump up in the future... But I stayed with the 215s because I wanted to keep the rotational mass low, and I didn't want to compromise the ride with a smaller sidewall to offset the width while maintaining the OE overall diameter. Now if I were racing this, I'd be on 245s in a heartbeat

Needs moar height!:bonk: j/k

I like the way that looks. Almost looks like it's factory stock and goes well with the color.

Yeah, It's a big issue, isn't it? More than I anticipated. :/ I am eyeballing WHAT lowering kit to go with... Considering Eibach, but thanks to this site's users, I see examples on their ProKit, and, while I originally thought 1" would suffice, I am now thinking 1.25 to 1.5"... Wanna find that stance that looks good, but isn't too detrimental to ride quality!

But that is a conversation for another thread... I am jacking my own thread! :) :threadjacked:

I'd propably go with the8x17 +35 offset. Would they also fit without problems in the wheel house or do they come too far out? What do you think?

As long as the quality of the wheels are good for your driving then that's all that matters. I'm at the same point as you and won't be able to lower my car for a month or two. Your wheels make the car look great just the way it is now.

Another 13mm outboard? In the rear, no problem but personally I don't know if I'd go that far in the front without making dame sure I got some decent neg. camber into the alignment.

I know people running 9"s in competition (with likely the same exterior face runout as an 8" @35 offset), but the only way they'd clear is after installing coilovers or crashbolts to get over 1.5 degrees of neg. camber...

Not first-hand knowledge there, but second-hand.

I absolutely love these wheels. Your car looks amazing with them. Quick question for you, or anyone else who may know.

I plan to track my car, and run 245/40/17 Hankook RS3s. Do you know if this tire would fit on this wheel (same offset) without any rubbing? Would I have issues later, if I lower it 1" via new springs or coilovers?

Thanks!

Stock size Blizzak LM-60s. Now it just needs to snow.

Foobar 01-06-2013 04:13 PM

Same tires I got on my stock wheels. Performs well. Drove it around in that last snow we had, no problems.

Wolfking 01-06-2013 04:24 PM

I was actually considering these as my dd wheels, and the oems would become the winter wheels.

I've been debating switching them. I really like the way these look.

DarrenDriven 01-08-2013 02:56 PM

Another topic merged. Same wheel/same specs.

Teo 02-23-2013 05:55 AM

One easy question,

Did you change bolts or OEM works with OZ's 17" ?

wparsons 05-03-2013 01:00 PM

17x8 +45 is pretty close to flush at stock height, +35 will definitely poke a bit without more -ve camber.

RehabJeff86 05-06-2013 02:12 PM

they look awesome!!
