Are those trd wheels? I think that car looks beautiful.

Tcoat 01-23-2017 08:07 PM

Damnit now I can't pick up my mother or her groceries! She is going to be pissed.

Clipdat 01-23-2017 08:11 PM

In the sound effects it sounded like automatic up/down shifts, but then at the end they showed a manual gearbox.

The sounds in commercials are very VERY rarely from when it was filmed. Some is probably an AT recorded in a sound stage someplace. Also not the TRD exhaust sound in a few places.

Clipdat 01-23-2017 08:29 PM

False advertising :(

lol :iono:

Nope they don't claim the sound is from that clip. People just presume it.

Clipdat 01-23-2017 08:31 PM

False advertising because I've picked up my parent in it, gotten groceries, and went on a family trip with it.

GG Toyota at "excluding" your customers trying to make the car seem more impractical than it is. Bizarre advertisement.

That isn't false advertising they told you it "is not" for those things. You broke the rules and they are on the way to take your car away.

I agree they are pushing about 99.99999% of the car buying public away with this sort of advertising. Yes, it is a niche vehicle but loads of people bought it as just a nice little coupe (most of them are not on this forum) and they are pushing them aside?

Clipdat 01-23-2017 08:43 PM

Yes, this. Especially with the "Only 8,600 will be made" commentary.

"Oh, limited edition? Sounds expensive. Pass."

Toyota has never been good at advertising.

Nice to see Toyota advertising the car again properly.

Tcoat 01-23-2017 09:11 PM

Wait until people find out all that TRD stuff is extra.

ToySub1946 01-23-2017 09:21 PM

Video ad states it's only for one thing.

Does not state just what that one thing is ?????

Wise 01-23-2017 09:25 PM

Why are the voiceovers in American car commercials are always so arrogant and punchable sounding?

BRZnut 01-23-2017 09:38 PM

And drive it like that on a regular basis, watch the bottom end seize, and have your warrantee work denied. Seen all too often around here.

Only the 13s!

Yep, the 15s like mine just have sealant blocking the oil channels causing scoring and needing a new short block anyway

There are exceptions. The 13s lead the blown engines by a huge margin. Many of those were silicone blocking the oil channels as well.

dnieves 01-23-2017 09:52 PM

Only 8600 produced?

Well we finally have a number to compare to what sells at any rate.

I have to say, I like the Japanese commercials for the 2017 model WAY better than the north american commercials--they let the car do the talking. Specifically these ones:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uYO15HaoeE"]2016 Toyota 86 CM Japan 2 (トヨタ86) - YouTube[/ame]

They don't let the car say much really. Sort of boring. 30 seconds of front bumper bobbing around doesn't sway me.

Been looking for those videos, thanks

Clipdat 01-24-2017 12:13 AM

Guys will you please stop? I just hit 18,500 miles on my 13 and I am planning on keeping this car forever. :mad0259:

KR-S 01-24-2017 12:19 AM

I did all of those things.

Car is totaled; warranty voided.

Fair enough! I think it's probably just my inner cinematographer coming out.

It's a hard sell when the US gets the poverty spec variant of the 86

There are far far FAR more that have never had an issue then did no matter how some make it seem.

Boomerang 01-24-2017 07:25 AM

That ad makes me want to drift in to the supermarket carpark with my Grandad's screams drowned out by the massive F1 engine noise just to spite em..

Mim 01-24-2017 08:43 AM

I cracked a grin as realization dawned around what gender the driver was in the fourth Jap clip and what they were doing during it.

Also notice the nannies off in the start of that clip?

sodjer 01-24-2017 04:12 PM

Honestly none of these feel like real ads to me. They feel more like the 2nd runners up in some kind of contest to produce an ad for Toyota... (like the Dorito entries/commercials from awhile back)

Drive this car like this and when it breaks we'll deny your warranty claim and blame you!

SUB-FT86 01-25-2017 07:21 AM

I honestly love this trailer. I'm sick of people bitching about why I bought a car that can't haul more than 2 people.

Because they're catering to an American audience and we Americans are all arrogant and punchable sounding.

I found those particular Japanese commercials a bit boring as well, except for the one of the woman driving. I liked that one. I preferred the Subaru BRZ one from a few years ago with the Japanese guy and his father. That one actually tugged at the heartstrings a bit.

corry29 01-31-2017 01:05 AM

This commercial is heavily edited between two different red 86's

I don't own one of these 86 cars, but I own a FRS from 2013;

But this commercial made me walk down to my garage and stare at my FRS, and then next thing you know, I'm driving my car around my city with no destination.
