I just got my 2013 Firestorm FRS, what are some easy things I should start to do? :party0030: (sorry for pic quality, resized messed it up)

Welcome!
You should spend all your time reading this forum to avoid asking a question that has been answer and riling up the cranky old timers |
Track day bro.
|
Drive it. Once you think you know what you want then drive it some more and see if you change your mind. Once you have decided what you like and don't like drive it a bit more and see if you can live with it. If you do this long enough you will save a pile of money by not changing a thing that wasn't YOUR idea and that you had a personal reason for doing it.
Oh and don't listen to the millennials here they have no clue what they are talking about and make us cranky. |
:party0030::party0030::party0030::party0030: Firestorm gang !!

I'm 70yo and have owned tons of vehicles in my lifetime:
Drive it till it gets low on fuel. Fill up fuel to full. Drive some more. Don't spend any money on car other than fuel, plates, insurance. Well, do oil and filter every 7500mi, check tire pressures, under hood fluid levels, once a month. Do not do any other recommended service other than these things. Despite what you may think right now, you aren't gonna own this vehicle forever. Be Happy, Smile as you drive. |
Read the stickies, search the forums, and check the diy thread. I'd vote, as previously stated, drive and learn the car. Find out what you do and do not like, and give it some time.

Autox is a good option too. Try using the car for what it was designed for, and if you don't like that (which I'm certain won't be the case) then you can go ahead and just do dope modz for hardparking street cred. Welcome, and great color choice! ;) |
Take pics without filters

As far as pictures ...... I'd suggest you set your camera to auto and point and shoot. Pare them down to below 100 kilosomethings or other. As far as your car, mind what @Tcoat said up in post #4. In addition, you may wish to change the engine, transmission, differential and brake fluids ...... just to get off to a fresh start. Put in the highest test gas you can find at a regular filling station and follow the maintenance guide in the manual. Have fun driving it and stay waaaay back from the parking stops. humfrz (one of the old cranky ones) |

Well stated. As I get older this has increasingly become the norm for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have one advice for you that no one has ever told you.
Keep yourself alive. |
Spend an hour or two everyday reading posts on this Forum and just drive the car. In time what you want to do will come to you. Welcome to the forums!
|
Visually I'd keep it the way it is. Looks perfect. You also already have a spoiler so your good to go. If you want, you can do the Toyota Badge swap like many do.
I'd just concentrate on performance modifications if you ever think you need/want more out of the car. For now, enjoy the car in stock form, it's a great car out of the factory :) |
The FiveAxis rear spoiler looks so sublime on Firestorms.
Too bad they don't make them anymore. |
Get acquainted with the REVS
After you've spent what you believe is an adequate time letting the engine "break-in," start learning the relationship between the torque curve and RPMs.... especially if you have the manual tranny. Aside from learning the "just right" clutch action, get used to getting the RPMs up.... to get full benefit of the available power-on-tap. (Ex. >3K RPM). Under that, just learn to live with the fact that with this NA rig... some aggressive soccer mom in a minivan has the potential to beat you off the line during DD.
But... in the curves... oh in the curves... learn how to deal with a perpetual smile on your face!! Congrats on the new ride! |

why da hell does everyone make a thread when they get this car and always ask the stupid question of what should i do it? shit just drive it first for a month at least
|

so what you are saying is that you shouldn't change the brake fluid or spark plugs or transmission fluid according to the manual? just let it run until the car starts acting up and then change those particular things? |

OK, my recommendations for service might have been a bit of an exaggeration, also leaving out a few things.
All depends on just how long, how many miles a person keeps a car. In addition to checking fluid levels once a month, I also check cabin and engine air cleaner filters. Usually vacuuming them works just fine. I don't believe in changing transmission fluid (manual trans only), differential fluid, or brake fluid. Though brake fluid does get moisture in it over time. Spark plugs I'll think about at 60k miles as it's recommended. Maybe check with others who've let them go longer and see what they've experienced. I do check under car on occasion...and that means removing skid plate under engine to check for leaks. Tires are now rotated at 7500 mile intervals. Many things are just obvious...Check brake linings and rotors whilst rotating tires. Eyeball remaining tread at same time. Check wiper refills very often, replace when tears appear, or when they won't clean up. Might be good to check with those with high mileage...as Tcoat. See if they've experienced any mechanical problems needing emergency attention. Still, best to do the minimal, then trade the car, give it to someone else to worry about. |

Back a few years, when I was a real estate broker, about once a day, my female partner would say "humfrz, you're getting cranky ..... go out in your car and take a nap ..... so I can get some of our work done"! humfrz |
