Q300 too quiet! Help!
So I bought a used Q300, looks great and sounds better than stock but it's TOO quiet! Is there anyway to cut out the front muffler on the system? I'm in CA and can't take off the Cat :/ trying to go the legal route, thanks in advance!

Try the Miltek or Perrin resonated. Or Tanabe single exit. if looking for rumble and just a little louder. What kind of sound are you looking for? Tone wise and decible wise |
Rumble and something that isn't extremely loud, just when I get on it and start up I'll be able to hear but won't wake the neighbors (every time) haha

How many miles are on it? Keep in mind it will continue to get louder and improve in overall sound as you log more miles on it.

Not sure how many the prev. owner logged (looks like a descent amount due to ware) but it has grown on me a bit and it looks great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you are dead set on keeping the Q300 instead of cutting it up you might just have an exhaust shop make a new midpipe so as to not ruin your current one in case it still isn't what you want and need to sell it. Would be harder to sell if it is messed with. And since it is used I would imagine it is entirely broken in by now and not much change will come to it sound wise. |
thanks for the advice and opinion man! I'll check out the Perrin options and see where that takes me Sound and cost-wise!

You can also try putting in a High Flow Cat Front Pipe. It will make it sound a little deeper. That would be the cheapest and easiest route. |
Q300 is not quiet dude...my greddy sp is quiet...
|
Invidia N1 is loud but I would not recommend it if you ever plan to change from stock headers. With cat-less headers the N1 is deafening. I traded my N1 for a Q300 for once I do my headers here this spring.

I'm running full catless with the N1. I love it, it is really loud though. I wouldn't recommend it though, i thought just the N1 alone was loud ish.

I have a decatted stock header with an MXP SP catback. It sounds absolutely wonderful, very smooth, and reasonably deep. Very audible but still EDIT: WIFE approved. Pretty when you're hammering, but you can still hear the feedback from the rest of the car. I'm very pleased with the setup.

add some headers and fp

Sell it and buy a Perrin resonated. Loud at cold start but nice low rumble after than and loud when it needs to be. ;) |

Have a look at the Corsa catback. I had one with the stock header/op/fp for a while and it is one of the best sounding catback systems for the 86. Corsa designs very high quality systems and this one is no exception.
Fairly deep and rumbly at low rpm. When you go WOT it has a nice exotic tone to it. Definitely not the cheapest option, but then again, neither is Perrin. |
I have the GReddy Supreme SP and I absolutely love it. Its not obnoxiously loud or raspy and sounds amazing. Has a nice rumble to it as well. You can still hear it inside the cabin and still be able to have normal conversation. I have a video of a coldstart on my IG feed. Username is jcks.frs86.

It has 4.5 inch exhaust tip and looks nice too. |
[quote=finch1750;2829051]Both are quiet. The q300 almost sounds stock on an otherwise stock system

Definitely thinking about the Perrin, it sounds good, probably would go the used route again as it's cheaper and pretty hard to mess up a bolt on exhaust (knock on wood) ... looks like we now have a place to discuss quiet exhausts 😩 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If you were in the north east I'd gladly trade you my Injen SES 3" exhaust lol. Sounds great but drones a bit while cruising and I've grown tired of being so loud :(
|
Namless makes a solid exhaust as well but they are on the spendy end new and hard to find used.
|
Well I hope it's to quiet for me as I'm putting one on tomorrow with the HKS dual resonated front pipe, trying for max quiet with out a cat. I'm also running Top Speed header and over pipe, Catless.
|
Invidia n1 catback is loud I would recommended that
|
I have a catted UEL and uncatted front pipe to the Greddy SP... really quiet and very little rumble. I might look for a different end section this spring. Possible single outlet...

I have heard the HKS single exit (with silencer I believe) with an Ace header and it sounded really good. Most others get tin can like and super loud (Greddy RS, Tnaabe single exit, Tomei, etc) |

My current catted FT86 UEL is not as unequal as most of the non catted manifolds though, so I think that is mostly to blame. Shame, because they did a really nice job on the header; quality is top notch. |
|
That dual exit version looks nicer... but $530 is a bit rough
