2016 frs?

So I found the last frs in my area its steel and I originally wanted white. However they marked this one down to 22.3k. You guys think should go for it or wait for a white brz. I hate the way the 86 looks.

Supposedly its 2k below invoice and they wont go any lower. I told them I would buy it for 22otd today but they said no way.

That is a fair price for what is really still a new car. There is veryu little mark up in these cars and no reason why the dealer should have to totally lose their shirt so that they can sell it.
If you are not 100% comfortable with it though don't get it. You will just end up feeling like you settled for it and start to resent it down the road. Every little thing will make you think "I should have waited for a BRZ it would have been better" even though it could have been worse or exactly the same.

rkaywhodat 01-03-2017 09:53 AM

That seems like a great price, unless you really prefer the BRZ, that sounds like a great deal.

Don't settle on a +20k purchase. Buy exactly what you want.

Shouldahadboost 01-03-2017 10:48 AM

Ya the brz doesnt do anything special for me it was only the color. I suppose steel isnt bad though. I test drove a 13frs yesterday at a different dealership and they didnt want to move much past their asking at 17k. For 5k more its probably worth it to buy new.

Ha im not sure what to do. Hate to wait but at the same tine its just gona be in the garage for the next 2 or 3 months anyway.

winstonscifi 01-03-2017 11:10 AM

I bought my 2015 FR-S new at $3000 off list price. It had been sitting on the lot for a year. It had 250 miles on it. Is the $2000 off list price? I think you could wait a little longer. Remember, every month you don't pay insurance on the car, you save that amount of money. This is a tough decision. Good luck!

$3,000 off list would be about the $2,000 of invoice that Should spoke about so about right.

86Boyz 01-03-2017 11:30 AM

don't buy the 2016 fr-s, it doesn't have back up lines

Shinigami301 01-03-2017 11:43 AM

Wow, I wonder how we ever managed to back out of spaces before rearview cameras and synthetic lines on a screen?

Except that it's invisible. You can look forward to people changing lanes on top of you and pulling out in front of you.

Are you looking at the manual or automatic? If you're getting the manual, it might be worth it to buy new. More aggressive gearing and a little bit extra horsepower. If you're looking at automatics, I would say, save the money and buy used.

I am sure all the grey and silver car owners will argue with you but I agree 100%. There is a reason the darker grey colour is called asphalt and the steel is only marginally better as far as visibility goes.

yea this for sure..if you are buying new and getting a manual I would get the new 86 with the color you really want. I personally like the new changes they made with the bumper and taillights but to each his own. I wouldn't think the mounting points for the bumper will be any different so hypothetically you can just buy a used FRS bumper in the same color and swap it out.

I Thought about that. I really hate the front and rear bumpers though.

And the idea of buying a brand new car and ripping off the bumpers to replace with an older cars just doesnt sit well with me.

86geek 01-03-2017 12:17 PM

Then wait to buy the BRZ. I don't like the 86 bumpers as well. If the car is gonna sit for 2-3 months waiting shouldn't be a problem. Buy what you want because you don't wanna have regrets. ;) If you can afford the BRZ get it. Buy what you can afford! The car will always be there.... ;)

lol queasy over a bumper swap? what is the difference between that and using an aftermarket rocket bunny or varis bumper...switching the bumper is a 15 min job and you can keep your facelifted bumper in your garage, plus this is a tuner car part of the enjoyment is swapping those things for your liking.. it is the best option really since you'll get all the mechanical updates with the 17s so it'll be a "sleeper" when you "race" a zenki FRS/BRZ

JakeRogue 01-03-2017 12:28 PM

Buy the one you want, always always worth the wait

ToySub1946 01-03-2017 12:39 PM

I agree, buying a NEW car, one should get the exact color they choose. I did so with my FRS, chose what I like best of all the colors offered. Buying a used car we sometimes get the car we want, yet not in our favorite color. Buying new is a different story.

My Mustang is silver. It's turned out to be a very practical color. Does not show the dirt much, and reflects light almost as well as white...keeping car cool in summer.

My personal taste: I hate charcoal Grey color on cars. Seems to be very popular with men. I don't know why, as it is the same color as pavement, so difficult to notice cars this color on the road, or at intersections. It's certainly a non color to me. Why not have a car which actually has a real color...like red, blue, green, etc.

Personal choice in a new 2017 model: BRZ, as it's base model is cheaper than the 86, Like it's front bumper better, and like the fact it has retained the red stitching on it's interior. Love the idea of a little extra power in the 2017 models, and the fact they've attempted to get rid of some of the torque dip. Don't like the fact they've changed the rear end ratio, yet not changed the transmission ratios. My FRS already has pretty high revs at speeds of 75-90 mph, the new model worse in high revs, and poorer gas mileage. Guess I'd have to drive a 2017 model and see. So far, don't like also, the fact they've softened it's ride.

Are we off on a tangent now...well good.

There aint no queasy about it man. Its just the idea of having to do that pisses me off. More on principle than anything. Also I think that for the most part putting aftermarket body kits and that is pretty lame.

lol rip rocket bunny

the principle is toyota expects you to make those changes...tada-san has been quoted that he expected people to swap out bumpers, fenders, the fender garnishes, which much of this community partakes in. plus at least in this case you would at least be swapping with oem

Lol ya I get what your saying. Looking long term though if I did go with something 2017 is the new trans going to be significantly better for FI?

Just get the BRZ. Subaru>Scion

It definitely looks better!

Re-sell value will be better, and you'll feel better driving a Subaru :D

humfrz 01-03-2017 02:15 PM

I would never buy a car in one color if I wanted another color.

This. I bought a Raven '13 because it was the only 6MT they had on the lot. In retrospect, I wish I had shopped around more. I wanted either red, aquamarine, or lava. I don't mind the way the black looks, but it's a mother to keep clean. This is the first and only black car I will ever own.

But Scion is gone now, so you'll feel better driving one of the last Scion cars...are the car will be more rare later on. :D:D

Yeah but only in the steel FR-S can we shoot past the police at 120+ mph and they just think their radar detectors are malfunctioning!

This times a million. I could have taken home a black 2017 BRZ in November but my heart was set on a white which wouldn't be available until later this month. When I found out I would be waiting a few months I added the performance package to make the delivery day even more sweet.

It appears to be unmolested and fully stock which is a good thing. $15K is a good price in your region and you could do a pile of work for the difference in price. There is of course always some level of risk when buying used but people have issues with brand new ones as well so it depends upon your willingness to accept it.

Most likely the second set of tires ..... 225's would be fine. Maybe the owner put all season tires on it.

As far as the knob turning, some folks put a formulation of Loctite thread locker on threads.

Bubby just unscrews the knob, drops a pencil erasure in the knob and threads it back on.

I have a white 2013 MT and it has served me well. Just don't mess with it and it won't mess with you. Oh, an aftermarket muffler and a free-er flowing air filter and center armrest is OK.
