BRZ Stock Tires and region question
Is it true that every region of the North America that sells the BRZ, sells it with summer tires as stock?
I know that mini cooper and many other brands, while their website does not say it exactly, they ship with all-seasons as a standard rule in New York. NY is mostly rain, crap roads, and 40-55 degree temps for six months out of the year, and sometimes 28-30 at night in wintery months. There are of course days of 0-4 degrees F in late January-february. Toyota dealerships don't even ask here what you want, they come with M+S tires. I dont know about the BRZ though. I even noticed the WRX Premium I am looking at.... online it says Summer Performance tires. Is that true? Do people really get summer tires when ordering it in December with one foot of snow on a AWD rally car touted as the best in snow/performance combo? summer tires? Or is this just the website and the dealers do otherwise? My dealer has no BRZ's and they hardly ever sell them, 5-6 a year at a big dealership. |

My car came stock with Bridgestone Turanza all seasons on it.
I think it was due to being sold in the mid atlantic during the winter months, but I'm not the first owner so I'm not sure. Edit: This in an FR-S, so it might have been different for Subaru. |

I personally would use all seasons from spring through october and then use, for the first time, winter tires, the michelin icex ones, until march something. I just cant be bothered watching the temperature day and night here in lower NY. It swings 40 degrees within two days during fall and spring. thank you for your information. I will call dealer to ask what they know. |

Only got kinda stuck one time on an incline where the roads werent plowed, that sucked. Slid a bit but luckily hit nothing and rocked my way up the hill. I would definitely get winter tires if I relied on this car for daily commutes though. Its a weekend fun car for me and it currently sits on all seasons. |
Where is the information on different tire options? As far as I have ever seen or read the michelins were what you got.
Secondhand purchases aren't included, because a lot of owners change tires well before they NEED a change, even on stock wheels. |
Summerwolf: define when "before they NEED" then. After all, for many tires grip might be noticeably reduced even if wear is just of 1/3rd vs that of new. For some low threadwear track tires maybe also heat-cycle count may play a role. To each his own, but there might be some that wish no-compromise best performance and be more anal on tire state not waiting for them to wear to "legal thread depth" levels (which often are rather lax)

Many car companies have summer tires on the high performance cars. Even Audi spec summer tires on the RS/S cars.
Part of the reason is you can thank California for this. The largest population buys the most amount of cars each year, so for many cars we dictate what gets produced. So you get stuck dealing with summer tires in the winter because our winters may occasionally be below freezing for the low. You can also thank us for the shitty tunes all cars have in order to meet California smog regulations. |

Simply put it is common to see secondhand cars with different tires on the original wheels that is all I was saying. |

My dealership here due sale happening in winter thrown in as freebie new winter tires set .. though of some cheap china brand and of rather bad grip even when new. In spring quickly worn them down to thread in two trackdays and bought normal brand/model tires instead for next winter :). It's easy to get by on subpar tires in summer, but prefer to have best avail. for winter. Extra grip really pays off in safety & handling when there is not much grip to begin with due season.
