Saw a new FR-S
I seriously hate the newer front end. My 2013 looks mean and is beautiful to look at and admire (still get out of it and look at it in love lol). The new one looks really wimpy. Like the car is smiling at you. If someone offered me a new one for my 2013 as an even trade I wouldn't do it. It lost its mean look and its really a shame.

Yeah, looks like a catfish.
|
I personally never saw the FRS bumper as "mean". What I do see in it is a design that flowed into the rest of the car with appropriate curves and angles.
The new bumper looks exactly like what it is and that is something designed to match the rest of the Toyota line up. The angles and flow do not match the rest of the car and it appears grafted onto the front instead of being an intrinsic part of the design. If the rest of the body was changed to match the flow of the bumper then it would look far better than it does now. All in all looks are subjective anyway so for every person that doesn't like it there could be 10 that do. |

I saw a new 86 recently and thought the opposite. I think it looks better in person than the release photos, but I still prefer the original design. I'm a little biased though.

So sorry for calling it an FR-S. Didn't mean to offend anyone. I saw an 86.
|
The new bumper doesn't look as bad as it does in pictures.
However, I would never trade in my car for a 2017. |

I always referred to them as 86's or GT-86's because Scion was never a legitimate brand to me, especially when it comes to our cars.
|
You saw an FRZ86, nice!

If somebody was holding a gun to my head, I would do the trade and then get a new bumper cover. In fact I actually thought about doing it even without the gun to the head thing.
The dealer by me has a 20 year/200K warranty on all the cars they sell new/used/certified which I missed out on by several months buying mine before they implemented that. If they had a 2016 with super low miles like my 15' at 8k, I might do it to gain that warranty and if the 17' was a decent enough price just do that bumper swap. Maybe even make that part of the deal. If enough people show their disgust in the change, maybe they will think about changing something just to change it for the new model year. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. |

This is coming from a guy with an 86 badge conversion on his FRS. I'm starting to get confused. :bellyroll: |

They have always changed and always will it is the nature of the beast. To the best of my knowledge there is only one manufacturer that never changed their body style for their vehicles through most of their entire existence. Where are they now? 1955: http://images.thetruthaboutcars.com/...birthplace.jpg 1982: http://autocognito.com/wp-content/up...r-marathon.jpg |

I couldn't figure out why they screwed up the front bumper on this car, but now I see what they're doing. That weird new nose is aligning the car visually with the FT-1 concept: https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7hnL1g3op...on-FR-S-01.jpg https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XiUS9Va3K...on-FR-S-02.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/fsTLeYtGEdY/maxresdefault.jpg This way, when the FT-1 comes to market, that sharp nose won't look completely foreign. I suspect the next redesign of the 86 will have an even sharper nose to fill in the gap between this refresh and the FT-1. It will look like a natural evolution of the style they already established. |

There is far more Corolla or Prius in that front end than F1. http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopo...nt-quarter.jpg http://www.2017electriccars.com/wp-c...7236172264.jpg |
These arent the 86's we're looking for. Move along, move along.

Maybe it's intentional so to ensure interested buyers won't bypass the Lexus IS/RC and go to the Toyota 86 just because the 86's front bumper looks nicer than the Lexus IS/RC hourglass front :) Sometimes you wonder what their marketing/designers are thinking...
Take a look at the BRZ - you may like that front better and it's got nicer interior anyway, at least when compared to the North American version of the 86. |
The 86 is a much nicer car than the a 2013 FR-S, for sure. Not sure about "better", and I too dislike the front. As has been said, it's not as bad as it looks in pictures but I'm swapping the front this spring barring some calamity.
However, this stupid looking front end is just what everyone wanted when they complained about lack of "aggressiveness". I suspect the actual second gen is going to be stupidly ugly. |

Mine reminds me of the mouth of a manta ray. The kouki looks kooky. |
There's still the BRZ as an option.
Better looking both inside and out than the 2017 86. Works for me. Well I don't like the fact they've softened the ride, also made them quieter, both cars. God, what will 2018 bring ? |

I'm not a fan of the new front end either. If I ever trade in, I'll be going for the BRZ next time for sure. The entire design just seems way better than the 86.

That front shark whales mouth on the 86 is :barf: :lol::lol: |
Eh, it looks better in person. Even looks decent on certain colors. Others it still looks wierd imo. That 2017 BRZ bumper though

My son has a '14 FRS and I prefer it to the newer 86.....one more reason when we buy one, it will probably be a BRZ.

the real higher demand will be for the '17-'18 BRZ

I actually like the new 86 after seeing it in person. IDK it took awhile but it grew on me. If I were to buy one today it would be an 86 over the BRZ.
