Ice and opening the door = .....

A very unpleasant sound from the window seal. I just beat the storm to Beaverton last night from the coast, so my car was warm. Nice layer of ice around the doors and on the windows. I'm not even going to be able to get out of my sisters driveway for a bit, not that I want to.

go_a_way1 12-15-2016 03:01 PM

Is your sister hot?? I am guessing that's what this thread is about?

PandaSPUR 12-15-2016 03:03 PM

Meh. Around here that is so normal for 3 or 4 months I don't even think about it.

Rare event around here. No damage to your window seals so far? There was some ice between the window and seal.

Nope. All is fine. If you get enough ice and the window sticks it will trip a safety circuit and you have to reset them but it is really easy to do. Tells you how in the manual. I only had to do it one time when the car was covered in about a 1/2 inch of ice.

For a second I thought that was Petro's sister! Was considering flying out to show him how to do the window reset.

Might Silicone Spray on body area seal for windows help ? Like for next time.

This is the best I've found, yet expensive.

The ice freezes it on the exterior not to the seal. It is the sound of that ice snapping that is so horrific.

I had some on the inside as well. The window was open a bit before I parked.

True, but it does seem to have a bit of a condensation problem as well.

Maybe a local issue since I have never had that happen.

Need enough snow first. Contrary to popular belief we don't get that much at once everyday.

It is pretty safe to assume that they all are (or could turn at any moment)

The almost whole inch we did get was enough to stop the city of Portland for two days.

paulca 12-24-2016 07:10 AM

Nobody suggested de-ice spray?

Mind we usually only get a handful of icey days here and a good bit of snow every 2-3 years, so we be winter amateurs, but de-ice spray makes it so much easier to get the car out in the mornings, rather than waiting on it thawing on the windows.

There is always the kettle of hot water too. Don't suggest boiling though.

The spray may work OK for all you cold amateurs but for us cold weather guys we would need massive amounts to chew through the ice at -20.

And if anybody here dumps even slightly too warm of water on their glass they will find any chips in a hurry as the cracks spread across the windows like a cartoon road map.

You had me at "Beaverton".
