Looks like it replaces the stock solid beams in the engine bay with a damper-type mechanism. Seems like it will dampen frame flexing, as opposed to making the area stiffer.

Oh neat... I wonder how much of a benefit that is??

I do quite like the TRD parts catalog translation, giving us gems like,
"Improves riding comfort and rigidity feeling. Also it has a sense of existence in the engine room."

That sounds like a direct translation from the Japanese catalog.

I'm sure this does something, but whether it does enough to be worth the increase in price over the OEM bars or nifty colorful FT-86SF bars is another question. The strut tower would have to be moving independently of the firewall for this to even have something to dampen.

Ultramaroon 11-14-2016 04:15 PM

I call bullshit.

If I am reading this right the "sense of existence" ends in entropy and that is not where you want to go with your car!

I think I just realized, maybe these are sentient AI, and recognize their own existence once installed!

So Toyota is ripping people off and selling TRD parts that don't live up to their description?

Some parts are solid parts, others seem to be kinda a waste if you ask me. Don't get me wrong I am a TRD fan I have a few TRD items on my car

I do too, I just was wondering the implication of Ultras statement.

strat61caster 11-14-2016 08:15 PM

I'd rather buy a set of 245 RE71R's than these for the same money.

$700+ can buy a lot of stuff, pads and fluid, solid alignment, tires, 2+ track days, etc.

Total fucking snake oil.

NissanGuy 11-14-2016 11:36 PM

Sounds like a lot of money to send your firewall into an existential crisis.

I mean, it's almost worth it for the bling factor, but if I was spending that money on TRD parts, I'd rather buy the steering wheel. Or the strut brace.

churchx 11-15-2016 12:12 PM

Cole: get petrol filling cap. TRD one will let you run on e-URP (unicorn rainbow piss) giving one extra 60 pink ponies without going forced induction.

ichitaka05 11-15-2016 12:53 PM

I'll be honest, this thing is in my wish list lol

I kinda wish, TRD or some other shop bring some bar or something to stiffen the rear chassis a bit more. Kouki 86/BRZ's rear chassis got reinforced, so don't have this issue anymore... but zenki do.

What about beatrush? I am sure they had a few things like a rear bumper and rear strut bar. I agree I need to stiffen the rear up in my car. The TRD door stabilizers really made that obvious

rear strut bar do help to certain extend... but still not much. Upper rear area (rear deck area), rear strut area and few other area need to be stiffen for our car IF you're stiffen the suspension.

Its on the list. I kinda want the cusco one as people dont sit in the rear seats, but yet I also kinda want a harness bar and harness... but its a street car so I don't want to do that.... ugh so undecided that's why I haven't done it yet lol!

You could see if mrk1 would mind making you a rear seat brace. If he says yes, let me know. I want one too.

Dude, if I don't use my back seat, I totally would buy that... but sadly, I do, so that option is out for me :(

He said that brace maintained rear seatability. You just wouldn't be able to fold the seat down and stick big objects into the trunk.

That's the problem. When I go to autox, I need to fold the backseat down to put my wheels.

...or if I can find the way to put those tires differently...

Just can't win em all, I guess :(

After watching that video all I can think is that if I add these and some washers to my front subframe mounting bolts, the car would feel like I'm driving a Lincoln while handling like a Koenigsegg.

Haha, we all wish that :bellyroll:

EAGLE5 11-15-2016 05:25 PM

Is there so much flex in this car that it needs to be damped? Not that I noticed. Then again, people swear by their strut tower braces.

And some parts are liquid and others gaseous although the gas in a pressurised damper is not usually considered a part. This can be the subject of the next debate.

False. TRD makes no liquid or gaseous parts

Sure but that's akin to saying they don't make springs either. I mean they have to buy in bulk the damper fluid and gas and put their own label on it.
