IM GETTING A BRZ!

Hey everyone new here ! I'm 18 and have been searching for a 2nd car for awhile (01 Audi TT is my daily) and have decided apon a brz ! I've test drove a few and found one I really like. The particular car is a Black 2014 Brz with 18inch Kong wheels and a invidia q300 exhaust, 22,800 miles selling for $19,850 from a reputable dealership planing on buying if I can get the price down to 19k hopefully lower! what do you think?

Burrcold 10-16-2016 05:02 PM

Why not just trade in the Audi TT and daily drive the BRZ, they are great DD's.

Maybe he wants multiple vehicles and can afford it. "What do I feel like driving today?"

I have three vehicles just for me and will eventually have at least two more, possibly more depending on what pops up when I have cash on hand. Nothing says we can only have just one car.

Well the Audi is pretty fast and all wheel drive, I'm in Ohio so I'll probably drive it more in the winter! Do you DD yours?

18 and working on getting a second car! Damn, I had a piece of crap Toyota Tercel when I was 18.

I have two cars now (well I'm 53 now), my driving gets split between my '13 BRZ which I got around three months ago (only had 9K miles on it) and my 2017 Kia Sportage which I just got.

Are you 18? My simple logic was that he was trying to get into a used BRZ for a good price. I offered up a solution that could reduce the cost and (in case he didn't know) give him a great daily driver as well. But hey eff it let's all get a bunch of cars!

I'm in Toronto. We get more snow than you do in Ohio and my BRZ was an awesome daily driven, four season car. Put some good snow tires on it and you can have fun all year round!

Tjs Blunts and Coffee 10-17-2016 12:36 AM

If I were you, I'd go to a local shop that can tell you if everything is good with the alignment and if there is anything wonky with the car. I have a thing about buying modified cars, it's not like I won't its just that I want to make sure that whoever decided on putting stuff and things into the car did it properly and got a proper alignment and didn't go around scratching or bumping stuff that shouldn't be tampered with, like brake lines or whatever. Also on the off chance that he decided to dump the clutch I'd really be interested in knowing if the clutch feels like how its supposed to.

Good luck! Post pictures please :)

I've been so fortunate to be in the position to own two sports cars at my age, not so fortunate on the insurance costs😂

Why exactly does his age matter?

He didn't ask about that. Your unsolicited financial advice implies that you think you know better how he should spend his money than he does, without knowing anything about his personal circumstances. You seem to be assuming that just because he's 18, he obviously can't afford two cars and is therefore being wasteful or irresponsible if he buys a second car. That's not really your call.

If age doesn't matter then why did the OP feel compelled to say he was 18 in the first place?

go_a_way1 10-17-2016 10:31 AM

I think the OP just wants us to know he is a young car guy? I bought my FRS brand new as a second car (other one was a 300zx but sold shortly after) when I was 19

If you are ever in Columbus, come on out to the Buckeye Miata Club autocross. Been a few years since I was involved, thinking of getting re started.

I was a young car guy with a 1970 Chevelle a long time ago, now I am an old car guy....

People gave me crap for buying an R53 Cooper S, it is now 13 years old and has been much more reliable than my Fathers 2003 Toyota Highlander, which he bought new.

Audi is a neat little ride, enjoy!

I doubt he mentioned it hoping someone would start lecturing him on how he should spend his money.

In the context of his post, I figured he mentioned it because he was hoping for some input from some more experienced car buyers on whether the particular deal he posted about was a good one. As in:

brock3798: "I'm a less experienced car buyer, and a lot of people here have more experience buying cars than I do. Is this $19K 2014 BRZ a good deal?"

Burrcold: "You're too young to have a second car. I couldn't afford two cars when I was 18. Since I'm jealous, for you to have a second car is obviously irresponsible."

But Burr didn't say that. His comment of why not trade was perfectly in line with the OP's request. Not even sure how you managed to get that out of the simple statement that was made.

Agreed ! I was just looking for some input on if it was a good deal, maybe some info about brz ownership and i did throw my age out because I'm new to the site and i am a very inexperienced car buyer I've never bought a car from a dealership nor have a ever bought a car at this price

I'm in Columbus too, and actually checked out the same black BRZ (in johnstown)...looks like a clean car for the price.

So...Did you take any offense to Burr's very realistic suggestion? Did you read any derogatory remarks about your age into it?

? @Burrcold was giving solid advice I'm not sure how this got spun into him being an asshole.

As someone with multiple vehicles, I would have suggested the same.

owning VAG cars for utilitarian purposes out of warranty is, by definition, irresponsible; i dont care how big your trust fund is. :)
