Rant: Dealer is being lame.

Rant ahead.

My car got broken into via the passenger window.
Sent it to the dealership to get it replaced, because I have bad experiences with third party shops around town.

Advisor calls me:
Quote:

Dealer contractor says window motor is busted because the replacement window only comes down.
My reaction:
Quote:

Why is a third party doing the window replacement? I asked for a OE part.
Did someone even try to do the window regulator reset?
Can you have a tech walk thru the FSM procedure for it and call me back?
Techstream says the regulator needs to be retaught.

(Side rant: 700$ for a monogram rear seat cover... :bonk: )

To be perfectly frank I would rather the dealer sent the car to an actual window place anyway. Window repairs require a special skill set that most dealer techs don't have. They just don't do enough window repairs to learn them.

mrderp 10-12-2016 02:00 PM

Where else to share my car related drama but with you guys :P

True. Doing it through the dealer was "smart" though in case any warranty issues come up with the repair. IDK, many ways to look at it, but you should be getting factory glass I would hope.

mrderp 10-12-2016 02:10 PM

I guess I should count my blessings, the thief didn't even damage the door skin and stole about 3 fiddy in loose change.

Kaotic Lazagna 10-12-2016 02:12 PM

(Most) Dealerships don't do window or body work. Those get outsourced to a place they trust.

weederr33 10-12-2016 02:26 PM

They broke into your car via the window to steal $3.50 in change?

People break in and steal nothing all the time. Not like they knew what was in there before they broke in. I just make sure there is nothing to take and leave the damned thing unlocked. Once every few years I come out and find things messed up but nothing got broke in the process.

mrderp 10-12-2016 02:48 PM

They emptied out everything, glovebox, cupholders.
The only thing missing was the change.
They left the keys, lock nut key, access cards, usb sticks, spare fuses and even the canadian tire cashback bills that were in the glovebox on the floor.

Funny tho, they didn't bother with the landrover that was parked behind me.

gramicci101 10-12-2016 03:24 PM

That happened when my 4Runner was broken into. I had just cleaned it out and removed the sound system to sell the car, so the interior was spotless. And the very next morning after I removed everything I was missing a quarter panel window. Assholes.

FX86 10-12-2016 03:26 PM

well you know what to do....blow up the dealership and then sue them..or did tcoat say it was the other way around..idk im insane

mrderp 10-12-2016 03:59 PM

Can't I just light them on fire? FIRE GOOD!

I read the post as the 3rd party shop is charging 700$ to replace a window and I almost ded. How much is the actual cost + labor?

Hey, my OEM window screeches when wet and seems to rattle an awful not when I shut the door. No way a shop can do worse than the factory.

I'd be happy with whatever.

ToySub1946 10-12-2016 06:08 PM

In my distant past, I was a used car tech for a Honda New Car Dealership.

The dispatcher for tech work gave me lots of jobs to do within car doors. Couple of years later, I asked her why she gave me so much of the same type of work. She stated that it was because no other techs liked to do that kind of work. Well, it was news to me. I loved that easy and clean work, just must sit on the floor often to do it... a piece of cake to me.

Whenever I needed any side glass for one of my own cars...it was to the junk yard I'd go. So incredibly cheap to find used glass in very good condition.

mrderp 10-12-2016 06:09 PM

Well, they're keeping the car overnight because "the window regulator is broken" and they needed to order a replacement.

Last I heard, an hour ago, the car was being sent from bodywork to service to properly diagnose the regulator issue.

If the regulator really is busted, it's going to be about 200$ for the glass and 300$ for the regulator including labor. Canadian monopoly money of course.

To you $300 is $300 unless you are paid in USD. Bad enough when the Americans use exchange rate to say things are a different value without us doing it as well.

We're just jealous that our money doesn't smell like maple syrup.

Well technically, since she is swallowing it, you would need to lick it out of her not off.

Well, first off, your choo-choo wasn't set on the tracks straight to start with ...... then @Tcoat started the derailment ....... I merely ask a question.

About your picture, do you realize just how many maple trees it took to produce that much syrup ....... ??

And how long it would take to lick it all off of her ......:confused0068:

Actually I was on topic until Gram stepped in!

gramicci101 10-13-2016 02:02 PM

That's why my subtitle says off topic. My work here is done.

As many as it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop! More if we share.

Back on topic:
Advisor: Your regulator/motor are fine, turns out there were glass shards in the motor gears. The regulator needed to be recalibrated too. Also something else is broken and the part is BO, so we'll keep the car for the weekend. Oh we don't have any loaners either. OKTHXBYE!

Same! I even have a note that says, "please dont damage anything or steal my car. It was my gift to myself, but here's $50!" I added that after I read somewhere, someone left their home for weeks around Xmas, so they put a 'guest basket [wine, food, $$$]' with a note for thieves that read something like, "take whatever is in the basket, please leave my home alone..etc." When they returned, they found only the $$$ they left inside the basket gone.

Our radio was stolen off my friends unlocked BRZ and our unlocked family truck, but everything else intact.

Thieves and vandals should be strung up by their reproductive organs and then beaten like piņatas.

How hard is it to leave things that don't belong to you alone. :iono:
