Badge conversion legality

Anyone live in Ontario or even in the states and done a gt 86 conversion (badges changes to GT 86 instead of frs)? Have any of you been pulled over and questioned for it ? Reason I'm asking is because a friend of mine claims that he got pulled over in his frs with gt 86 badge and the cop asked about the car saying that the name different than the one on the ownership so be debadged it completely. I call bs but I want to know if anyone else experienced this

I'm using a public wifi connection and someone else's phone. I'm also hiding under my frs.

Here we go again!

allowe 10-10-2016 11:26 PM

In all seriousness, I've heard stories not with frs's but with other cars in which the cop pulls them over for a different reason and states that by not having a badge, it makes the car "harder to identify"

Nope, I'm not going to bite! But boy that lure looks good.

MikeyBatz 10-10-2016 11:35 PM

My insurance card says Toyota Scion FRS, so if anything changing badge would make it more accurate lol.

allowe 10-10-2016 11:39 PM

Mine does too but changing the frs to GT 86 is what I'm scratching my head at.

I still havent received a copy of my old SSD that crashed from the NSA.

PetrolioBenzina 10-11-2016 12:02 AM

There are people in Gitmo today for doing that.

OP, badging a Scion as a Toyota is dumber today than it ever has been.

A buddy of mine once did hard time for rebadging his Scion FR-S to a Ferrari.

They won't care nor enforce anything regarding a badge swap/badge removal.
All they care is that you have a License plate that can be read clearly with valid insurance and registration.

Train 10-11-2016 12:39 AM

It doesnt matter if you change the badge. The car is registered as "Toyota FRS" in service ontario.

PetrolioBenzina 10-11-2016 01:31 AM

I'd be interested in you badges, OP! Thinking about going from 86 to FR-S.

why? 10-11-2016 08:40 AM

seriously how many threads like this do we need? One time was enough. No one gives a crap if you rebadge anything. There is a license plate for a reason.

Tcoat 10-11-2016 10:27 AM

Do whatever you want there is no law. Keep in mind that if you do anything silly we will make fun of you.

I have had my badges changed for a couple years now and no issues, so as many others have said you can change your badges to anything you want them to be as long as your license and registration is unaltered (obviously).

Case in point, I was just pulled over yesterday for going 60 on a country road that they had just recently brought to 40 for 1 block for shits and giggles :sigh:. The officer did not question the badges on the car, although he did ask me what model Toyota it was - looks like the moron couldn't read

A for effort on that one LOLL

Apparently our cars look like an Alfa Romeo 4C, so much so that I was waiting for my wife outside a restaurant in downtown Burlington when an older woman just opens the door and gets in my car - took her a second and my blank WTF stare to realize she got in the wrong car and she rushed out to the red 4C parked right in front of me :slap:

That one can't be related to the badges though :P

Thanks! I have a monogram edition so my car is 99% identical to a Euro GT86 inside and out.

Must have been both red. To some that means cars are almost identical. Had some woman in an orange mini van tell me "Oh look we have almost the same car" once.

Yes they were - still doesn't look the same at all to me, but I think to non-car enthusiasts they see 'red two-door' and think its the same car. My wife said she understands how the lady could have mixed them up.

Your minivan story though...that's on another level of ridiculous comparisons hahahhaha - the only thing she should say is similar is the colour, the similarities end there.

PetrolioBenzina 10-11-2016 10:50 AM

What's funny about all these rebadges is that a "real" 86 looks like this in back:

Nah, that's just MY17+ badging.

The 2013-16 looked like this, Toyota and GT86 badges. Some variations existed depending on the market.

PetrolioBenzina 10-11-2016 10:57 AM

The point is that the rebadge is a bit pathetic, whatever you do. IMO, of course.

Fair enough - honestly, it's the same car at the end of the day no matter what badge is on it.

IMO, this car in particular has a special situation of coming from the factory with 3 different brands and names, so I am OK with and swaps people want to do within Toyota/Subaru/Scion.

Actually prefer the position of the BRZ badges.. the Toyota badge positioning just irritates..

guybo 10-11-2016 12:56 PM

Here in the USA, we don't rebadge cars- CARS REBADGE YOU

How much does it cost to do a legitimate Scion to Toyota conversion for the FRS?. Airbag, front and rear badges, key fob replacement, trunk mat. That's easily $500. And at the end of the day people who know anything about cars still know that it's a Scion.

I have the same reaction when I see Integras with Honda badges all over them. It just seems kind of silly. But, you could say that with the majority of exterior modifications though.

people should just replace the front and rear scion badges with the toyota emblem and remove the FR-S badge...clean and simple looking like the 2017

Then you still have a massive scion badge on your steering wheel. Unless you want to cover it with cheap plastic.

I don't understand why you always bring up the trunk carpet? My trunk carpet says nothing on it.
Maybe yours does since it's the Monogram series?
