What parts from a 2016 FRS would you want for your 2013?

My brother found a 2016 being parted out in my color... front end is severely damaged but windshield back and interior are in good shape.

Any upgrades I should be trying to get?

Nothing really of note mechanically... Grab some interior trim pieces if you like. IMO, the 2015+ dash trim is nicer, as is the audio unit.

I was thinking about the stereo, but the reading I've done so far leads me to believe it would require the dash trim (it is a different shape), and what really concerns me is that the wiring is apparently completely different.... though a backup camera is tempting.

Knee pads, backup camera with the head unit.

If you have the space, carpets and seats assuming they're in good condition for when the originals are looking worse for the wear 10-20 years in. Maybe the door cards too, mine are already a bit beat up.

Otherwise mechanical parts will be easy to come by for many years imo.

When they get worn out, you can get these

Nothing in particular from the 2016, I do want the nicer looking climate control dials on the MY17s though.

PetrolioBenzina 10-05-2016 12:01 AM

I want the headlights and tailights for my '17 86, unless the 16 frs has stupid leds as well.

Wait what? You want the earlier taillights? You realize there's a line a mile long of people who want your taillights, right?

you could get a free swap and make some money off of it at a local meet.

Yeah. I have to admit, though, that they are better as headlights that the '13. I'm going to turn them off when my new Carista dongle arrives and see how I like them.

I know it's a minority opinion, but the LED's look stupid. I'm not going to be a first adopter, but when I know for sure the swap will work I'll seriously think about it.

I would be interested in:

1 Boot lid (trunk lid in American English), I prefer the old style boot lid without the new, mandatory rear spoiler wing;

2 Rear transaxle, I prefer the longer final-gear ratio for quieter highway cruising; and

3 Front springs, I prefer the slightly softer springs of the old model.

Did I get ripped off? My 86 does not have one.

I agree. I bought my car used, and at first I was disappointed that it did not have the wing... but having owned the car a while I now think it looks better without the factory wing. Occasionally I think about the TRD trunk lip spoiler, but in all honesty I doubt I will ever actually get one since it involves drilling holes and matching paint - the combination of hassle and irreversibility.

dnieves 10-10-2016 07:28 PM

The LED headlights (I still love my OEM HID), front seat skins, the 86 fender emblems, soft knee pads and from the new BRZ the LCD display and rear spoiler.

Carista'd the LED DRL's to "off", much better.

Does anyone have a link to the OEM headlight assemblies?

Now that is something I would never have considered! I forget... do the 2016 rear floor mats have improved wear characteristics, do they stop the crickets, or do they add 50 HP? :slap:

PetrolioBenzina 10-13-2016 08:07 PM

Ha! Toyota upped the game, you get front and back fabric mats and a set of all-weathers as well.

I think you are confused (and indeed weird for not liking the look of the LED strip in the headlights). The 2013-16 Scion FRS only had 1 headlight design, it never had the LED strip in it. You can find those everywhere since many people swap them out with the Winjet headlights. The Monogram, RS 1.0 and RS 2.0 special edition FRS models are the only ones that had the JDM GT86 headlight with the LED strip from the factory.
