How often do you have humanoids in the back seats?

Curious how the back seat area get used in other people's FRSs? I can count with one hand the number of times anyone has been subjected to the rear seating.

Another question if I may?....Where do you all find a mini-human to crawl back and clean the inside of the rear window?

KendallH 09-26-2016 11:31 AM

I'm 6'1" and I've had another 6' tall person behind me while driving. My chest was almost touching the airbag

FX86 09-26-2016 11:32 AM

that's where my groceries sit with my alcohol bottles..very spacious

brandonblt2 09-26-2016 11:50 AM

I've done it about 10 times I usually have just one person put there legs across both seats and seat sideways. All have been under 6' and have been ok back there.

yelsew 09-26-2016 11:58 AM

I've ended up having 3 or 4 people in the car at least twice a month, and everyone is honestly surprised that there's as much room as there is back there. 5' 4" girls don't take up much space, but I have had my 260 lb. friend sit back there on a quick trip. That wouldn't have lasted more than 15 minutes. I manage to clean the back windows by kneeling on the seats and using a tool that has a foot long arm with a microfiber pad on the end, but I am also 5' 6" and Asian, so that won't work fore everyone..

VIP BRZ 09-26-2016 12:02 PM

No one ever sits in the back of mine, and if they do its an uncomfortable situation for everyone because you have to move the passenger seat so far forward that both peoples legs are numbs by the end of the 5 min drive to mcdonalds.

Tcoat 09-26-2016 12:02 PM

Grandson has been back there maybe 6 times. The tall one (5' 10") gets the front and the little one (4') gets the back. The resulting Battle of the Seat Adjuster will go down in family history.
My daughter rode back there once for about 15 minutes. She says she will walk next time.

Kestrel 09-26-2016 12:03 PM

Rear seat delete was a must for me. It pained me to look back and see those useless things. It's like they were taunting me...

Just a handful of times, but the people I gave rides to were certainly glad they were there!

shiumai 09-26-2016 12:44 PM

my 8 year old son sits back there quite often.

FR-Sky 09-26-2016 12:51 PM

I dont have rear seat anymore.

arkanist 09-26-2016 12:53 PM

I can pretty easily fit 3 people and do so at least once a month. I have fit 4 people once but would not want to again. For reference, I am 6'3" and my seat is as far back as possible. My girlfriend is ~5' which allows for a 3rd person without much trouble as long as they are below 6'.

strat61caster 09-26-2016 01:06 PM

About 2x per year at this point.

Fit 4 adults in on two occasions for 2+ hour drives, once to a party, once to a track day, me at 5'8", gf at 5'5", buddies at 5'8" and 6'2", I moved my seat forward about 2 notches, passenger footwell is deceptively spacious so the passenger can have the seat further forward than you think is comfy.

Like above, 3 isn't terrible if one person is short, 4 happens when everyone is like 'I'd rather be cramped than take another car'. And yes, I have in fact sat in the back for a 2 hour trip behind the driver.

fizzymike 09-26-2016 01:13 PM

Tried Twice. Never Happening again lol to uncomfortable from the drivers seat.

deejaylew 09-26-2016 01:16 PM

I think the correct ratio for front to back seat leg room according to passenger height is 5' 6" in front and 5' 6" in back.

Any taller and ratios get messed up and the math calculations turn into repeating decimals and stuff. I think that's what happened last time I tried.

86geek 09-26-2016 01:35 PM

Never because famiy & friends take one look and say, "Omfg! My knees!":lol::lol::lol::lol:

Ratio didn't matter when the grandsons went at it! In fact the chaos that resulted was mathematically impossible.

Daily for me. My 2y.o. daughter sits back there every day. In her comfortably fitting baby seat.

There's a back seat?

Oh, yeah, now I remember. I put my seat down the day I got the car and have never raised it again. I ought to just delete it for the extra storage.

Bowen 09-26-2016 03:06 PM

I've done it a few times. But I try not to, often from being scared of getting into an accident with someone back there :(

That picture is at least two years old! They must not still fit as well by now.

Always take my 2 year old daughter on a Recaro car seat with my wife in the passenger seat. The seat adjustment discussions have been undramatic so far.

Try it with a 14 year old and a 9 year old. Brothers!

I have to bring in a ref to deal with the seat position for every trip.

Works on the 14 year old but the younger one doesn't care.

I should probably do that some day.

HunterGreene 09-26-2016 04:55 PM

Daily, 3.5 year old and rear-facing 13 month old. I've gotten used to the headrest in my view.

Yep, that is an old picture.....:)

However, they both still fit, but without the car seats.

And the backpacks (which are about as big as they are) go into the trunk.

Back when we were kids, what you packed to school was either carried in our pickets or on our hip, with a belt wrapped around it.

Now, Lord knows what all they have in their backpacks (and the school district issues 2 sets of books - one set for school, the other for school) .... so the packs aren't full of books!

At least, when and if, they get in the Army, they will be used to carrying a heavy pack ..... :w00t:

My 3 yr old rides in a toddler car seat at least a few times a month.

I had my 1 yr old ride once in rear-facing car seat, but I don't recommend doing that unless the car seat is easily detachable from the base. Eventually, when she switches to a forward facing seat, I'll be able to use this as my "family" car.

I've only put adults in the back a few times and usually only the passenger side.

wbradley 09-26-2016 05:39 PM

Once a week minimum, when I drop off the just turned 9 year old at Sunday school. Just measured him at 4'3". The front passenger seat is all the way forward, and he is in his booster (still) in the back.

With a passenger in the seat in front of him, maybe once a month and that's one time too many AFAIK.

My grandsons need the backpack to carry their school issued tablets in. I don't think you will find a book in the place.

DriveDriftDogfight86 09-26-2016 06:07 PM

My girlfriend has a 1-year old so it gets used. I also have a 10 year-old brother and 12 year-old brother who hang with me so they definitely find use from me....actually one of the reasons I'm glad I picked this over the 370z, they car would leave me screwed in several recent instances haha.

Jegan_V 09-26-2016 07:31 PM

Often enough. I'm not very tall and my parents are shorter than I am. If my sister comes along she's also shorter than me and my father. So I can actually use this car as a legitimate 4 seater. If the car didn't have the 2 seats in the back...I'd have to say its useless for my purposes and couldn't buy it hence why I never considered a MX-5 or a S2000 or even a recent Nissan Z. That's why I had to test drive it with my dad in the back.

Only complaint I get as a result is the awkward entry and exit...so if this car had a Mazda RX-8 freestyle door or some other suicide door type as an option I would've taken that.

mrg666 09-26-2016 07:47 PM

My two sons (13 and 10) ride in the back seat pretty often. They especially like it when I take them to (or pick up from) school. We even went to lunch with my family and it was a funny sight to see four people getting out of my FR-S. It was much more fun than going to lunch with my wife's Honda Odyssey.

brz11b 09-26-2016 08:00 PM

my drivers seat literally touches the rear seat. I've had my wife friend sit behind her in the passenger side but it was a tight fit, i now have the rear and trunk gutted so no more worries

In recent times with my daughter's increasing vocabulary, there may have been a few grumpy words exchanged. I want to believe it's nothing to do with leg space issues. Hopefully it remains that way!

I've done it a couple of times and surprisingly the passengers haven't complained a ton. Sometimes I think I'm more worried about their lack of room then they are. I know the driver seat is almost full forward

I have 2 adults in the backseat, but you have to have both fronts seat, up about 6 inches for them to put their feet under the seat. The backseat goes up high, so the only problem is leg room. Before I purchase the car I got in and out of the back seat four times to see if my back could handle it. 10 times front driver's seat.

guybo 09-27-2016 07:42 AM

twice a week. My oldest son is 5'11" and he has to eat his knees LOL while his brother, 5'9" squeezes in the back seat. It's only a 20 min drive so they can suck it up. I've fit 4 in the car before, my wife is 5' 4" so if we have to shoehorn in 4 of us, she's more than happy to ride in the back.
