I love it :) :)

Looks like its mounted with 3M double sided 1in x 1in squares. That's how I mount my license plates anyway - no ugly drill holes.

I was contemplating making a bracket, which I am still investigating.. I may manufacture something suitable for the slimline plates, but its unlikely this will easily come adrift I assure you. It will bend the plate before it comes off.

I will keep you updated with the slimline bracket adapters when I get a chance to sus them out.

A few play around pics of test fitting rims :)

Coilovers on Friday, and these rims may end up going on for the time being, cos i dislike the stockies... I want some Work CR Kai's in the same colour, but I havent found any yet.

Also will be getting some semi slicks.. So theres probably no slidey for me.. But the stock rims will be good for that :)

BIG THANKS TO OPTION 1 GARAGE!!!!! :) :)

Offset is very aggressive, and will require some camber to get the fronts to tuck in..

We will see how we go... They are 18x9.5s (? I think).. I'm hoping to try get some staggered rims though, so this may just be an interim.

Mark, you really don't waste any time do you...
I think Justin will be kicking himself he wasn't able to be here when you collected it.

Will have some pics of the new tint and interior/exterior protection today, then wheels, tyres and coilovers tomorrow :)

WTF 07-13-2012 06:54 AM

OK, today was a big day of more mods for the StreetFX project 86!

With only 100kms on the clock, the car got the following - interior and exterior protection, tinting, coilovers, rims and tyres...

Firstly the car went into Solarstyle Window tinting :) (who also tints for BMW Brisbane pre-delivery, so you know their work is top notch, plus Shannon's a really friendly guy with attention to detail and care for your car).

Thanks to Solar Style, the 86 now has Mirror tint, Gtechniq Exterior protection and full interior protection.. If anyone has any questions in regards to the interior/exterior/tint, shoot me a PM and I can put you in touch with the guys at SolarStyle.

Shannon did a wicked job, and here's a few pics:

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...out2/tint0.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...out2/tint1.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...out2/tint2.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...out2/tint3.jpg

Once finished at SolarStyle, the car went to Option 1 Garage for coilovers and wheels :)

Wheels chosen as a quick solution were 18x9.5 front and rear.. (YES 9.5" on the FRONT!), No rub, no guard rolling, completely stock!

Wheel weight is quite light at 10kg per rim, for a 18x9.5, thats quite reasonable!

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...eelweight1.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...eelweight2.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/w1.jpg

We obviously needed a fair stretch with 215's on a 9.5" rim :P

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/w2.jpg

Coilovers chosen were BC racing, which are still a great quality coilover, with warranty, come with camber tops, swaybar links, and full warranty. Option 1 would be more than happy to do 86forums customers a good deal, just hit them up in their section on here.

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...t/out2/bc1.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...t/out2/bc2.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...t/out2/bc3.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...t/out2/bc4.jpg

Comparison of BC Racing coilovers vs stock suspension:

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/s4.jpg

Some things to note, the coilovers give you a lot more room for wider rims. That said, we test fitted the wheels without the coilovers, and they still fitted fine, just was close to the spring platform.

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/s5.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/s6.jpg

Fitting the suspension:

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries.../undertray.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/s1.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/s3.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...nt/out2/s7.jpg

Now throwing the wheels on, we needed to see how much camber was required to tuck these massive wide rims into the guards...

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries.../out2/o1g1.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries.../out2/o1g6.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries.../out2/o1g8.jpg

I wasn't there during the install, so if anyone has questions, shoot me a PM and I can put you onto Option 1 directly.

Anyway, here is the finished product!

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...ut2/after9.jpg

http://www.streetfx.com.au/galleries...t2/after10.jpg

Once again, MASSIVE thanks to both Solar Style window tinting, and Option 1 Garage in Brisbane.. Anyone chasing any of the products listed in here, I highly recommend both these places to supply your bits :)

Z86 07-13-2012 08:40 AM

Awesome looking tint.... Shame it would get you booked in no time in WA :-(

What offset are those rims?

ex-gti 07-13-2012 08:58 AM

is the tint legal? thought we were not allowed to use mirror tints

davey90 07-13-2012 09:08 AM

1 Attachment(s)
if mirror/chrome tint is legal then i'm all for it. i think it's legal but it would have to be really light tint.

EDIT: yup! they're not legal....:sigh:

I got this from NSW RTA's Vehicle Standards Information

Rev. 3 - July 2003

so not sure if changed since then...:iono:

blags 07-13-2012 09:16 AM
