You will throw CELs left and right but not the end of the world. Just get some premium in as you use the e85 up. Car may run like crap though.

Impureclient 09-10-2016 12:39 AM

If you are currently stuck at the gas station and this is an emergency....Everything online says it isn't the end of the world but it could do damage and throw codes. If I did that and caught it, I'd probably try to siphon as much out as possible and refill again. I'm sure more E85 educated people will speak up when they see this. Good luck.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 12:42 AM

I was actually thinking of doing that and try to get It out

Welcome to .....The Forum ......

Yep, like mentioned, suck it out or dilute it.

:slap: now, don't do that no more!

What's the best way to dilute it?

Premium gas.
I would not worry about sucking it out. Go for a long drive and burn it up since it burns fast. It isn't that big a problem. Just don't keep doing it.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 01:26 AM

I'm wondering if maybe top it off now with premium and wait a couple days and just keep topping it off with premium

From dead empty? Fuel light on?

Clipdat 09-10-2016 01:43 AM

Careful with trying to top off an already full tank, could damage the charcoal canister or another part of the evap system.

Like a quarter left and no like I drove about 100 miles already on it. Maybe not that much but I just mean top it off not over flow

OK so you had about 4 gallons of gas left this drops the e85 to about e50 since the two fuels do mix. The car is designed to take up to e15 so the gap is now at only 35. Not so horrible when you look at it that way. Just burn it off (it will burn off faster than gas) and fill it back up and the percentage will continue to go down. Do not panic if you get a CEL since the E85 burns different and there is more oxygen which will mess with your O2 sensors. The light should go out once things clear up.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 02:03 AM

Ok so don't top it off just burn it out first? It only has 6,000 miles on it so it's a new car idk if that maybe makes it better

Either way it doesn't matter. If you top it off, it'll just delude the e85 even more. Until you're at a nice e15 or similar. Or just run the tank out and fill up with premium at that point.

Burn some off. Top it up. Repeat until all is good. Don't need to go gallon by gallon for the top ups though. You will be fine.

LOL yep it is important that you fool that e85 as much as possible.

Ahhhh damnit my laughing woke the wife! It is usually Ultra that gets me in trouble.

I do love a good typo though.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 02:13 AM

Ok so my friends dad works for a gas company and he says there isn't really e85 in utah it's 85 octane. Do you think it could be this? I look online and there are a few places that says they sell it but he says it's just 85 octane

Whole different ball game now. Just drive until you need gas and fill 'er up when you want. You will lose a little power but that is all. It is probably 85 octane unless you got it at one of the 4 stations listed in the State.

As do I. It's way too late for me to focus on proper spelling and I can't even blame it on the iPhone this time

Now that you mention it, I'm also from Utah and I can't imagine how you'd accidentally go to one of the only 4 e85 stations in the state. You only have one station in a 25 mile radius from Ogden.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 02:23 AM

Yeah I did fill it up at one of those so idk

85 octane isn't ideal but regardless of if it was 85 octane or e85, the same principle remains, drain the tank and fill it with premium and just know that the car won't function optimally until then.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 02:26 AM

Probably 85 octane then.

e85 is usually yellow, or green, or orange, or blue. They really need to standardize this.

Yeah man the button definitely did not look like that. Just a shitty black button that says 85

Well it is pretty safe to assume you got 85 octane then. I bet the vast majority of these cars leave the dealer with a full tank of 87 (85 is rare in most places) and nobody notices so no issue at all. Just don't KEEP using it.

bigassbeerglass 09-10-2016 03:02 AM

I won't and for how much I have drove on it I don't notice anything different
