Imo this concepts not very nice, and the hood scoop is giving me bad VVTI celica vibes.

Cole 09-01-2016 12:21 AM

Yet we already know that the car isn't going to look like this.

Great thread 10/10

Text to the top right of the image of the car specifically states "New 86 project" this isn't the 2017 86 they're talking about.

krayzie 09-01-2016 01:48 AM

Is it saying 1.6L Turbo?

fang_gt86 09-01-2016 01:50 AM

I see a massive front grill and wide hood scoop. That means it will finally be turbo and AWD!

krayzie 09-01-2016 01:55 AM

Time for Calty to bring back the Celica GT-Four. I think this is probably it.

ToySub1946 09-01-2016 02:20 AM

Stunning look ! Beats the piss outa the 2017 we're getting. Possibly the 2018 ?

I wanna order one right now. I'll take that shade of blue as well.

Says 1.6 litre direct injection turbo, also says there will be a convertable version in the lineup!

KR-S 09-01-2016 02:31 AM

Is this article purely speculation? If so, then that holds as much water as any motoring.com.au article.

I'm sure people would love a translation of the article. @ichitaka05, your services are needed.

funwheeldrive 09-01-2016 02:40 AM

I want to know more about that SFR!

Our cars were only cartoon images at one point.

Have a little fun.

Are you saying cartoons arent real? come to japan with that attitude and you'll be beaten to death by a group of otaku's brandishing hug pillows.

What do I get in return? lol

They're talking bout how next gen 86/BRZ is possibly 1.6L turbo from Levorg (WRX hatch). By 2020, Toyota will have big (Supra), mid (86) & small (S-FR) released for everyone's wants & needs.

They're quoting several sentences... but they're not saying "who" they're quoting nor where they got the resource. I would just take it as a grain of salt.

Internet cookie for you. :)

As far as the concept goes, it's just way too outlandish and unrealistic to be taken seriously in general let alone something Toyota would actually display as a concept, especially with that gaping maw front end. Not to mention that some parts of the car almost look like they were taken from a Lexus, Subaru, and Mazda parts bin.

I get where Cole is coming from when he called the concept a cartoon image and I definitely agree with him on that front. Though I'm happy with the design of the twins over the original FT86 concept car, at least even that was still a great-looking concept and actually looked like it could have entered production as-is.

If there even lies a bit of truth somehow and Toyota displays this as an actual concept car, I will throw up and question the sanity of Toyota's design department.

Of course, this is just my opinion, which varies differently from others.

krayzie 09-01-2016 05:03 AM

Cole probably has never bought a copy of Best Car ever in his life.

No wonder there are so many clickbaits and magazines when so many people think every speculative/fictional write up is the next official concept or production car.

dnieves 09-01-2016 08:12 AM

Not feeling the speculative car it looks too derivative of everything from Asia. I think the original concept car looks better. I hope the designers don't pull the same thing as the Nissan Z's -talk about running out of ideas between the 350Z & 370Z.

why? 09-01-2016 08:25 AM

The only decent idea is using the small turbo engine from the Levorg. I wonder if that could fit in the 86 and still keep the center of gravity as low as it is now.

MarkR171 09-01-2016 08:58 AM

Cool, an ugly wild render and random speculation from a magazine.

yeah, I have kinda given up on any hope of the sfr especially in the US.

a 1.6turbo would be fun though

That would require them to leave their mother's attics... so we're safe for the most part.

weederr33 09-01-2016 02:19 PM

I'm still waiting on that turbo diesel....

MJones_RB 09-01-2016 05:28 PM

I saw there is a convertible version in the works, too. Looks pretty sweet!

Yeah - the S-FR will never happen here.
