Wind noise at 65 mph?

Hi all, just got my asphalt 2 day ago. Love it!!!

Just wanna know anybody hear wind noise start at 60 mph from driver side. I drive Rx330 and it's quiet.

Thanks.

Ps. Got from Sun Toyota, Holiday with no dealer fee. For those who live in Tampa bay area, it's worth to check this dealer.

Cant say i have any wind noises, i will listen out for you though.

jesseps 07-08-2012 04:01 PM

The wind noise insane, but thats because I have the windows open lol

From what I can tell though, the wind noise isn't all that bad. I know Lexus is known for cutting down noise from outside the vehicle.

W2 07-08-2012 04:45 PM

No issues here, the car is extremely quiet on the inside at highway speeds.

Bonburner 07-08-2012 04:47 PM

i don't recall wind noise :X

I have this wind noise as well. Its as if you didnt put your windows entirely up all the way right?

Siamtampa 07-08-2012 08:08 PM

That's weird cause I can hear it even the radio on and yes doors and windows were closed completely. Maybe I'm focus too much to check if there's something wrong with my car. Anyway I'm enjoy it so much.

Thanks guys

I hear some wind noise as well on the highway...but honestly, compared to previous cars I've owned, this one might as well be a Rolls when it comes to cabin noise. It's really not bothersome.

mike2100 07-08-2012 09:04 PM

It will be noticeably noisier than your Lexus.

Masato-san 07-10-2012 09:39 AM

Yes I do hear some wind noise except it's coming from the passenger side wind shield. It's not normal wind noise. It sounds kind of like the window is open.

Dadhawk 07-10-2012 11:08 AM

At 3000+ miles, most of it at near highway speeds, I can honestly say I haven't noticed any wind noise. Then again, compared to my recent cars (a Mustang convert. and a Chevy Astro) anything would seem quiet.

Sigh-on-Rice 07-10-2012 02:40 PM

I hear very slight wind noise starting at 58 mph. Noticeable at 60 mph. It probably gets louder at 65 mph, but I haven't gone up to 65 mph yet.

My friend has RX350. It's sooooooooooooo quiet even though it's a SUV. I wouldn't compare this cars wind noise against RX.

FRiSson 07-10-2012 03:00 PM

The FR-S is highly aerodynamic. The only wind noise I hear at high speed is some sound from the wind around the mirrors. That might be what you are hearing.

FRSpdDmn 07-10-2012 03:18 PM

I hear lots of wind noise. It is one of my biggest complaints of the car (of the few I have). There is a buffeting sound that comes from the area of the rear windows that is pretty annoying. I haven't yet been able to pinpoint what it is. Btw, I will probably be getting my 7500 mile service next week, so I've done a lot of highway driving already with it.

I have a feeling that this could possibly be the sound I'm hearing. But then everyone should be able to hear it right?

I think that's what I'm hearing. It's coming from right around there.

Snoopyalien24 07-10-2012 03:29 PM

This is one of the most aerodynamic cars in production I think 2nd behind the Prius. I doubt you'll hear anything. This car is slippery as butter

But seriously, its a $26k pure sports car. You're not going to expect ride quality of a Lexus/BMW/Benz. I don't see Lotus owners complaining the car has no cup holders lol, that's because the car has a specific purpose, like this car AND THEN they added daily driving goodies. Trims in Japan come completely stripped!

Hanakuso 07-10-2012 03:33 PM

I hear much more road/tire noise then wind noise if that makes sense.

tripjammer 07-10-2012 06:48 PM

If you hear wind noise at the windows, it your windows not sealing. Take it to the dealer and have it checked out. You can also put some good rubber treatment on your window seals and it might seal better.

michaelahess 07-11-2012 12:48 AM

Way more road noise on my BRZ. At 70 there is more wind noise then my sentra. My dodge is MUCH quiter, more lexus like, but that's to be expected with double paned side windows and framed doors. I will be happy when it's time to replace the tire's with something quieter, otherwise, nothing to complain about.

Subnasty 07-11-2012 04:49 AM

Hey, While I was test driving GT-86 on a race track ( Ill post some pictures from that event soon), I also experienced some wind noise coming out from drivers doors. Didn’t bother me atm, because I was having way to much fun, but I can imagine this could get irritating in everyday use. Although, I believe this shouldn’t be a big problem to fix in your local deal. BTW, hello to all, since I’m new here ;)

As I said, I love this car and enjoy it. I just wondering the car this good should not get wind noise at 65 mph at all. I just wanna find out if this is normal for this car and not just my car.

Thanks again guys

Shagaliscious 07-11-2012 10:14 PM

Definitely have slight wind noise at around 70mph. I am fairly positive it has a lot to do with the frameless doors. They just don't provide as quiet of a seal as a door with a frame around the window.

I also notice the tires more then anything else, they are noisy.

Same here. Like the window is not fully shut. I just eventually turn the music up.

ShoGun 07-30-2012 11:54 PM

Wind noise is more noticeable after getting it tinted. Its audible at 50 mph. I cant tell if its coming more from the front of the window or the back. I Will try and spray water upwards at the seal to see if it leaks through to the inside. Gonna take it to the dealer in a week or two and have them fix it.

zombie 07-31-2012 12:02 AM

My other car is a soft top Jeep...what is this noise you're talking about?

not quite. it is decent but i think a lot of us got caught up in the marketing hype. cars like the mazda3, gtr and lexus ls series have lower CoD

Well if you want to go lower, the Prius, Honda Insight, and the GM EV1 are one of the best in the world lol (and pretty ugly)

GTR does fit the bill @ .268-.272

a $26k sports car with .27 is pretty good in my book

also here are a list of some CoD http://ecomodder.com/wiki/index.php/...t_of_Drag_List

i dont think that drag should really even be an issue with a sports car at that price but i dont think it costs much to keep it down. this is more expensive than the mazda3 but they had no issues. i bet that has more to do with mpg than any performance motives

True but it also MIGHT cost enough that other companies dont worry about it when they wanna raise their MPG up. It's a, "how much are we going to spend per car on body panels", mentality when it comes to designing. They could shorten something and spend $5 less per car which would calculate to $10000 per 2000 cars saved or vice versa.

Also, idk much about technical details of cars but, I think the way a car is designed its to keep a steady downforce weight and to stabilize the car with turbulence. So the outside is kinda important on how its designed imo. Maybe not for a car with only 200hp, but it was designed to be a blank canvas for everyone, not just an average Joe. Think like: big companies, sponsored racers, and those with deep pockets who can get 800hp into this car and have it all on a balanced out chassis and aerodynamic shell.

downforce adds drag though not the other way around so when you look at the faster cars, you will notice that they generate much more downforce (either by the coefficient or frontal area). cars are usually shaped like aerofoils so they usually generate lift.

i dont think this car is for the big kids. these little cars are for fun. the same reason people here hate on the mustang or vette or the like is because they are designed to work in a certain range of speeds. they feel dull at 40 to feel alive at 150.

rikdrt1 07-31-2012 02:47 AM

yea, i think if u compare it to a lexus or infinity or benz.. its pretty noisy
but if you had a chevy astro, yaris or some little econo box .. it isnt that bad.
im guessing this engine and the insulation between engine compartment and inside of car wasnt too much of a priority or they wanted to keep weight down.

i just turn up the radio ...
