flossy Shift Knob

While the stock shift knob isn't bad, I got annoyed by the feel of the stitches and wanted something with a little more weight. I wanted a knob with a good weight, unique look, wouldn't burn or freeze my hand, and didn't cost an outrageous amount.

The flossy Grip Tape Shorty fit my criteria perfectly. It's quite hefty at 500 grams, which helps a lot with the notchiness and smooths shifts out. It has a textured coating which helps keep it cool even in direct sunlight. It definitely gets warm, but it wasn't close to burning my hand like the top of the steering wheel. I opted to get an engraving of the 86 logo on the knob - it looks fantastic! One thing I'd like to do is color the cutout part in red. Shipping was fast and reasonably priced. This knob + the clutch height adjustment have greatly improved my driving experience. This is a great choice if you're looking to swap your shift knob.

Wow , that looks great.

Where did you get that 86 logo from? Please share the Hachi love.

I'd want that 86 logo in RED color though.

mechaghost 07-08-2012 03:43 PM

I ordered a shift knob from them but they didnt have a engraving option in ordering. Did they email you about that?

Lee358 07-08-2012 04:03 PM

I chose the FITMENT + CUSTOM ENGRAVE option and emailed them the thread size of the shifter and artwork. If you have any questions or concerns, they're pretty good about responding via email.

luxmn 07-08-2012 04:51 PM

Nice knob I think I'm gonna order the same thing in red :D

Lee358 07-08-2012 04:54 PM

And your reverse function is working properly?

Laika 07-08-2012 10:00 PM

Beautiful timing. I was just thinking how much I wanted an aftermarket shift knob but never really saw one I liked much. That one looks great!

helloimgil 07-09-2012 03:44 PM

would be interested in the group buy if one comes up.

Nazarite 07-09-2012 04:17 PM

These are pretty sweet! I'm going to pick one up for my Speed3 in the meantime, unfortunately thread patterns won't allow me to transfer it over to the BRZ when the time comes, but thanks for the heads up @ducks!

this isn't the best description, but i'll give it a try.

the coating material itself is pretty smooth. the grip comes from the uneven layering and texture of the coating. its a very subtle feeling. it kind of reminds me of grip tape/sandpaper, but its not rough at all. you couldn't cut or abrade yourself if you tried.

Thats why I was curious cause Grip tape or sandpaper didnt sound very comfortable plus I was looking at the Rogue Status shifter that they have

Stu L Tissimus 07-10-2012 12:00 AM

Looks great. Does it get too hot if you leave it in the sun?

Lee358 07-10-2012 12:46 AM

mechaghost 07-11-2012 04:29 PM

ducks 07-11-2012 04:45 PM

about a week

itsibarra 07-12-2012 12:12 AM

Sweet, i'm in for the group buy!

EvoXDD 07-12-2012 07:31 AM

Im sponsored by these guys on my Evo X and just picked them up on my BRZ. I would recommend any of their products (no spoilers here fella's gotta wait to see what that have in the makes for us ;-)

Lee358 07-12-2012 09:23 AM

U saying we should wait??

fenton 07-12-2012 09:36 AM

Ive had the 500 gram knob on my 11 sti and I can say that these knobs are great.

Its not like sandpaper or skateboard grip tape but just texturized so that it isn't slippery. It is not abrasive in anyway.

The way they are textured helps with heat, they still get hot but they don't sear your skin instantly like a polished metal shifter would. I never had a problem shifting gears when it was hot but you wouldn't want to grab on the knob and squeeze when it has been sitting in the sun.

If I knew the FRS was the same thread size as my sti I would have certainly kept the knob.
