Good driving roads

Hey all - came up with the idea in another thread.

Post your routes from google maps like so:

Name: Cat and Fiddle run
Location: Cheshire, England
More Specific: A537 Near macclesfield
Maps Link: Google Maps

Description: One of britains best and most famous drving roads, average speed cameras have been installed but are inactive due to a police oversight rendering the £800,000 spend on them worthless, there is also a pub at the halfway point for a swift half!

you can search the thread for roads near you easily by using the "search this thread" button at the top right of the first post and entering a general location, if you are posting a route try and be pretty generic, use words you think peoplemight search for :)

Have fun all. In addition to the above run ill post a fresh one below.

Infernal 03-29-2011 07:16 PM

Name: Horseshoe Pass
Location: Flintshire, North Wales
More Specific: Horseshoe Pass, Bala Lake
Maps Link: Google Maps

Description: On a sunday one of the most popular biking/car meet locations is the top of the hill wher the ponderosa cafe is, grab a full english and then make your way down to bala lake for an ice-cream, making sure you are careful of the poice hiding in bushes with speed guns!

There is really nothing in NJ, but I remember going from Las Vegas to Utah on I-15. All straight desert and few police.

I Did when it was in D, i put it in N when the green light came on.

You know what i was thinking of :D

blur 03-31-2011 06:04 PM

All the time, at every stop light if Im trying to act like its a manual.. haha. But what I mean is I go through 1st, then 2nd in the auto by setting it to that position. It shifts like 3 seconds later tho, fail much? def.

I've always wanted to check out Deals Gap. Looks like a fun stretch of road. How is the traffic?

Traffic isn't terrible. The worst part has become the state troopers who will pull you for even inching over the yellow line, on your side of the road. We have two s2000 drives a year up there and it's incredible. It's new every single time.

After watching Top Gear, I want to drive the Trans***arasan in Romania. It really does look like a Grand Prix race track:

Ummm.... Beartooth looks... scary. Maybe it's just because the picture is zoomed out really far.

There's an entrance to the trace literally a few miles from where I live (or rather, where my dad lives). Been down a majority of the Mid Tenn. section, and yes it is gorgeous, with some curvy sections. But the THP still loves to patrol it, not as bad as the dragon, but they're there.

tranzformer 04-02-2011 11:36 AM

OST, you are one lucky person to live that close to so many great roads.

There are some amazingly maintained (or I guess, never traveled ergo not in terrible shape) back roads around here out in the sticks. Since Mid Tenn. is naturally a hilly place, it makes for a great afternoon checking them out. Just not a place you wanna get lost...:bellyroll:

The trace is a gorgeous piece of road, but there's no real 'challenging' sections to it (at least around here). Its a great cruising road though for photo ops and what not, especially in fall. The dragon isn't really close either...good 3 hours away at least. Its popularity has exploded and with it more and more people make the trip there, so it can be crowded at times. Plus the Tennessee Highway Patrol is there in what seems like a cruiser for every mile on the road. I'd consider the people who live close to the canyon roads to be a bit luckier.

I read on autoblog that the new speed limit on sections of I-10 will be 85mph; it's no autobahn, but it's a step in the right direction :burnrubber:

people will be reaching 100 mph on that!!! but generally people will hit 90~95mph ( or maybe not?, they might get scared and actually slow down)

It won't be 85 within urban areas. Driving 85 out in the middle of Texas isn't that big of a deal since most Texans drive that fast anyways.

midenginebias 04-10-2011 04:44 PM

I've driven the Tail of the Dragon. Great views, sweeping turns.

But, the road on Azuza Canyon headed towards Mt. Baldy? Much more challenging.

ditzola 04-16-2011 10:15 PM

Driving experience i found this site, just want to share this with you guys...
