Poor mileage
I'm barely getting 270 miles before the light comes on in my 15 FRS. I was getting 310 in my 13 FRS. Can anyone share their mileage?
|
I am averaging ~220 Mi/tank.
Note the mods listed on my car. MY engine produces ~ 33% more power at peak than stock and I am getting ~22.7% lower mileage. So I guess my engine is more efficient? LOL You missed out on an identical thread running the last 2 days, |
Right now when it's super freaking hot, the AC is running flat out, it's on stickier tires, and I'm driving like an asshat, I get about 24 mpg combined.

That thread turned into a train wreck. Very entertaining. |
I avg about 300-330 a tank normally and have gotten anywhere from 360-400 a tank when there are long highway trips involved.
Other than the car itself, have any other factors changed? Location, gas station, driving habits, oil type, etc.. |
Both cars are/were stock. No changes in driving style or commute and still using 93 octane.
|
have you ruled out that someone is not siphoning your gas?
|
It's been like that since I purchased the car.
|
What was the verdict on that thread?

250 to 300 is about right on the FRS depending on the driving you do mines is 75% highway, 25% city on automatic. 300 or more is usually if your doing a lot of highway and little to no stop and go.

I've never gotten more than 24mpg since I've had the car.
I just deal with it. :iono: |

If you're measuring your gas mileage by the tankful and running till the light comes on and comparing vehicles........ you may be leading yourself down a pig path. I suggest you calculate your gas mileage (miles driven divided by gallons consumed) and then come back ...... ;) humfrz |

DANG! ....... that is good for the car with a MT ..... :D humfrz |

Header? Tune? Good driving habits? The highest I've gotten on non-freeway, highway driving was 34 MPG. (stock, MT, fully loaded, A/C ON, driving the speed limit) humfrz |
i dont know u get 300, if i can get 260..i am happy

270 is poor?! I'm getting 180-200 until the gas light comes on.....:eyebulge: I think I need to see if something is wrong....I have headers, overpipe, frontpipe, catback, and tune. I feel like I have a v8, getting under 20mpg... |

Maybe because you drive around in first and second gear ..... right up against the rev limiter ...... :D humfrz |

I used to drive and shift until 3-4K rpm, then I started following the shift light and shifting below 3k RPM. following the shift light only gives me about 10-20 more mpgs per tank...I think I should start looking into this more Anyone think this is normal? I don't even have the AC on, I do only drive in the city, but there's been times where I've driven across state lines and didn't get any noticeable differences in mpg. I don't care about not having good mpg's, just want to make sure it's normal getting only 180 before the gas light comes on...my wrx that was stage 2 with an instant spooling turbo would get the exact same, 180..but the tank size was different. |
My MPGs dropped but only because my first FRS was an auto and my current one is a manual :p I averaged normally around 30+ on my auto and right now I'm averaging about 25 MPG with a stock FRS...guess I like to revv it out more on a stick lol (ofc besides the shorter gearing with the manual tranny)

A couple of good ways to fool yourself in measuring gas mileage is to measure from when the low fuel light comes on OR to believe in the mileage indicator in your car. So, I suggest that you drag out your paper and pencil, fill up the tank till the pump clicks off ....... drive the car some distance ...... come back to the same pump (if possible - not necessary) and fill up till the pump clicks off. Now you have two numbers ....... miles driven and fuel consumed. Here is where the paper and pencil come in ......... :D So, talk to us about l/100 kilometers or miles per gallon. (I'm just typing in for @Tcoat, while he is on holiday and @Ultramaroon while he is at work)........ :happyanim: humfrz |

I am not sure what has started this Miles Per Light fad but it is a horribly inaccurate way to measure milage. If the light comes on at 270 miles on one car and 310 on another it just means the Spenser float I'd a bit different not that the milage is worse. The difference of 40 miles equals something around a gallon and a half of fuel. That gallon and a half spread across the tank is probably under an inch or so. No idea how strict the float spec is but doubt the variation is unreasonable. Th milage indicator may be off a couple of MPG but it is close enough if used to just measure against it's self and massively more accurate than MPL. |
I consistently get between 8 and 8.5 l/100km. That's with a lot of fun driving mixed in.
Nothing crazy on the mod front... UEL, springs, 17x9 with 245/40/17 200TW tires and a 91 tune. Y'all are doing it wrong. |
LMaO! I don't even get to 20 miles per gallon. Look at my signature. :iono:
I live in the city so lots of stop n go. |

if you want better mpg, try changing up your fuel... i strictly use sunoco 93 from the same 4 gas stations. BP is a very good gas company... try their gas prior to going on a trip

Over 80% of this is commuting miles (same path, same fueling stations) so it's a relatively valid comparison. Months with high peaks are months I'm most likely to take road trips in the car. |
I'm averaging about 31mpg which is about 310-330 miles a tank when light comes on. I'm driving a 2016 frs with AT but I do have a tendency to enjoy the sport mode and paddle shifters from time to time. I drive town and highway both almost everyday so being combined I'd say I'm doing well.

But you still can't rely on miles per tank. Do the math. If the math is too hard, put a mileage app on your phone and let the phone do the math for you. Quote:

take a pic of the mpg calculator on the car when im cruising on highway trips and show that im roughly getting in mpgs
