Hello,

After browsing this forum a lot let me introduce myself. I'm Vincent, 29 years and a Toyota addict since ever. My dad drove Toyota since I can remember and is now driving a Lexus. My Toyota journey started with a Yaris 1.5 TS, pretty little sleeper:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E...ortAchter3.jpg

Used that to go to college, after that I got a 2002 Celica T-Sport (similar to GT-S in the US, so with the high reviing 2zz engine). It was a pre-facelift which slowly turned into a modded facelift:

From (some old NewCelica.org members might remember the cars below):

To:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BB...E=w800-h600-no

After two years I got a real 03+ Facelift TS, so with OEM HID, nice interior, etc, modded this car also:

When Toyota announced the ToyoBaruScion FRS86BRZ in 2012 I really wanted one, however they were very expensive over here, close to 55k USD new. Now after 4 years more than 50% of the value is gone so I just had to get me a 86 :laughabove:

Found a nice low milage white one, pretty stock apart from the TRD door stabilizers and custom leather interior:

I came from an MK1 supercharged MR2! That counts.

Actually, I came from a 78 Corolla but we'll ignore that.

Thanks! Corolla ftw, my journey also started with a Rolla, a 1998 1.6, but no pictures of that one and not really worth mentioning

No pictures and not really worth mentioning. That sounds like MY Corolla! :)

Rolla's are the most reliable cars in the world :)

So first the bad, ordered the TRD bodykit, was told the ETA was 1,5 weeks. Well it turned out they were out of stock in whole Europe, so now they are getting shipped from Japan by boat...........ETA = 2,5 months :barf:

In the mean time:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7B...=w1209-h906-no

Installed Lodem emblems
Installed a rear camera (OEM Toyota accessory in the Netherlands), very good image quality but also very bulky, so made a cut-out in the trim so only the lens pokes out, looks really oem:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i5...=w1209-h906-no

Furthermore bought a Kinugawa UEL with downpipe, I hear you thinking ... Kinuwhat? Well it turns out these guys also manufacture the Tomei and Gruppe S, bought it for a steal (425 USD :D) and it already should arrive next week. Will run it with a 02 spacer for while. Eventually get a tune..

http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/im...Zmanifold1.jpg

And so the story continues. Will attend the first meeting with this car next weekend :D

Vin 08-21-2016 05:38 AM

So the manifold has not arrived yet, hopefully it will arrive next week so I can install it during the weekend.

Also installed some new stuff (gift from my dad, it's awesome sharing the same hobby) and attended my first meet with the 86. I was the only 86 present

Cusco carbon strutbrace, really nice fit and finish with integrated brake stopper :)

Some more TRD stuff

And some hood dampers, works great and tbh the car should have come with these stock.

Wopwop my Kinugawa UEL header + overpipe is in the house. I'm no expert, but doesn't look bad for €535/$595 incl tax (21% in the Netherlands and shipping from Taiwan):

Vin 09-11-2016 03:49 AM

Had the rear 20% tinted. On the Celica I could do this alone, but the 86 is very hard to reach, so had it done by some pro's. Really nice result:

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...pss4fqswx9.jpg

Also found a very cheap and nice (plastic) TRD mod :)

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psxmmmxcrl.jpg

Installed the UEL header yesterday. I've coated it with VHT flameproof, searched for a profi job, but unfortunately this costs more than the header here in the Netherlands, so decided to do a DIY job. Installion was very easy with access to a lift, had to raise the engine a bit for the downpipe swap. Very pleased with the result, this really changes the car, I feel more power, but also it sounds so much better, this is how the car should have sounded stock. Still debating if I should change the rest of the exhaust too, but afraid it will be to loud

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...pssksjo1eo.jpg

This is how it sounds, sound even better when it's really hot. I'll post a new video soon:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Loma4nHLWoU"]Toyota GT 86 with Kinugawa UEL header and downpipe, stock exhaust - YouTube[/ame]

Vin 10-09-2016 04:17 AM

So this will get fitted next Friday :). Will probably look silly with the single exit exhaust (until I can afford a custom quad pipes setup that is)

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...pswk6ldcaf.jpg

Also the cold start with the uel was way to loud, even with the stock front pipe and cat back so went for a tune

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...pswqx7aebo.jpg

Running an of the shelve tune right now, will go for a custom tune when the intake and exhaust setup are finished

Made a small video with some more sound files and launch control, you just have to love launch control, car does 0-60 in just over 6 seconds now :)

https://youtu.be/AG7Ox3flsfk

More to come soon :)

nikitopo 10-09-2016 05:18 AM

Is it possible to have a catless header in the Netherlands?

Vin 10-09-2016 06:41 AM

Yes, our neighbors (Germany and Belgian) have very strict rules but we just need to have one high flow cat to pass emissions and that's it. You can bolt on pretty much everything on the car, we don't need to have any of the parts certified like the tuv in Germany. I love my country when it comes to modding

Vin 10-16-2016 05:35 PM

So couple of changes

Received the first parts of my interior overhaul. Carbon galore :)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/N8...=w1199-h899-no

Also fitted a new intake (because more noise, and bought second hand very very very cheap). Really curious if I can get the LTFT with the tune in control. Otherwise I'll change plans again:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5S...=w1238-h825-no

With Virtual Dyno:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/n8...g=w961-h643-no

Also: That moment when you have to cut your rear bumper to fit the new lip .. It really hurts you . Image the feeling if cutting for RB fenders .. But the result is well worth it. A huge thanks to www.RideRound.nl / SV Sportscars, probably the cheapest way to get TRD parts in the EU

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/hB...=w1244-h825-no

Resulted in this , will post some more pictures soon

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/nh...=w1238-h825-no

Vin 10-21-2016 02:32 PM

And the story continues, now with some interior stuff

Redline Goods leather + Carbon + Plasti dip red , only want to add the TRD boot set in the future and be done with it

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/KX...=w1349-h899-no

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/GJ...=w1006-h754-no

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/4B...=w1006-h754-no

Edit: Finally found some time for a good wash and some proper pics.

Vin 11-08-2016 05:44 PM

So the exhaust is on:

-2.5"
-Magnaflow 200 cell high flow cat
-Fox Mid resonator
-Simons back box
-Akrapovic carbon tips

Also red tinted the rear lights and fitted a shark fin antenna. Probably one of the last changes for the car this year :)

Vin 12-10-2016 04:39 AM

Managed to do some more changes this year :)

-TRD interior boot set, actually suited for RHD but fits the LHD just fine, the handbrake boot needs some work to make it fit though
-Oem Subaru Forester Heat Exhanger / Oil cooler, for a log see:

You got any detail on that Forester heat exchanger?

Vin 12-16-2016 09:33 AM

It's oem Subaru for the Forester, pretty plug and play :

21317AA070 - longer oilfilterbolt
21311AA170 - Forester oliecooler

Then add some coolant hoses (10mm to 8mm), I've feeded it to the coolant loop right below the throttle body, easy peasy.

This video shows you how it's done

Vin 12-23-2016 03:15 PM

Some small updates:

The boot on our cars has terrible lighting. On the German forum they sell a magnetic LED strip as update, much much better:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6V...=w1200-h900-no

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lF...=w1200-h900-no

Love your build!

Just wondering actually, any reason why you decided to go with the Cusco tower bar over the TRD tower bar?

I notice you have a lot of TRD parts so just wondering what made you go with Cusco. I'm in the process of deciding between the 2 myself.

Thank you!

Yes I'm addicted to TRD but sometimes I prefer aftermarket. For the strut brace I choose Cusco because it came with an integrated brake stopper and its a bit more present in the engine bay. I find the TRD looking really flimsy, it's as thick as a pencil. I also have another spoiler planned, a ducktail but again no TRD, cause I find the aftermarket ones better looking.

Cole 01-20-2017 11:38 AM

Very nice build, I'd love to get the TRD interiot bits you have, but they're crazy expensive in Canada.

Vin 01-20-2017 06:36 PM

Thanks, I bought all my TRD stuff from these guys, cheaper than importing it from Japan myself, you could contact them, I'm pretty sure they will ship internationally :

Vin 03-05-2017 02:56 AM

Summer mode = ON

-18x8 ET35 Team Dynamics 1.2 with Michelin PS4 225/40 + 235/40
-Daniel ducktail from Germany (bolts down 6x on oem holes, higher than TRD, only 115 euro, see here)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CJ...=w1350-h900-no

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/MK...=w1350-h900-no

Also fitted a Racerx catch can and planning to wrap the header with Dei titanium wrap soon, more on that later ;)

nikitopo 03-05-2017 06:09 AM

Very good work. The car transformed nice from the stock form.

Are you satisfied with the BC coilovers on the comfort side?

Vin 03-05-2017 12:49 PM

Thanks. Yes very satisfied, car is my daily and overal it's just as comfortable as with the stock suspension, just the bigger bumps in the road (sudden movement) feels more harsh. I have the coils setup at around 10/32 harness and went for the default (softest) spring rate available.

Vin 03-06-2017 03:54 PM

Soo I think I have found a little gem, already found out my car was fitted with a TRD sound generator (WOW :P) when I removed the whole sound generator thing, but it seems to get even better. I never could understand why people fit short shifters, the trow on mine was already so extreme short, like moving a switch. Luckily I was able to try out some other 86 on different meets, and they felt completely different. Also got a video from a third one showing much more trow. As the car had more TRD parts fitted from the previous owner (Toyota Dealership) I'm pretty sure it has the TRD short shifter installed too :)

WolF_RS 03-16-2017 11:11 PM

Where'd you get the Shell Sticker?

Vin 03-17-2017 03:38 AM

All decals were made by a member of our Dutch 86 club.

Vin 03-18-2017 12:54 PM

Today was a busy day!

So I've coated my header with VHT flameproof last year, absolute junk, it flaked of, luckily removal was easy. Decided to wrap the header with Dei Titanium (easy to do, even when mounted on the car).

Furthermore I've changed the oil to Castrol Magnatec 5W30 with a nice red TRD oil filter :)

Im really impressed with the engine temps after the mods (wrap + heat exhanger). After 5 WOT pulls and some spirited highway driving the temps reach 210 F :)

Met a fellow twin owner a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately the weather was not good enough for a photo shoot, or was it? After some Photoshop magic this is the result.

Put some green as background and will looks like racing on the touge. I saved the pics as PC background

Thanks, I played around with some green but preferred it black and white.

Vin 04-12-2017 04:40 PM

So in the Celica I've used a Pioneer Appradio which mirrors the Android interface on the HU, this worked great but was not super stable, still having Android in the car is so much better than the OEM Toyota Radio, which is slow with outdated maps...

For the 86 I went a different route, a Chinese (brand=Joying) HU with Android 5.1.1 2GB Ram and Intel Sofia CPU, I added a 4G dongle, Toyota harness and USB converter, all from Joying. I've wired in the OEM rear view camera using a 12V to 6V step down. Torque works too, using a cheap ELM327 ODB2 adapter , this allows me to constantly track the oil temp etc.

The unit has its own GPS receiver and gets a rock solid GPS location.

Oem mic could work I think but I decided to use the joying mic. (oem mic is hard wired in the loom and I didn't want to cut that.)
