What's the best way to fix this body damage??
Do I need a new bumper? Any aftermarket ways to make it look better?
I know I could replace the bezel and make it look 100X better but I'm also throwing around the idea of adding fog lights. I can't decide. Btw since I'm sure everyone's curious that's how I got it back from my ex after our divorce about a year and a half ago lol. I just bought a house and paid off the car so I figured I can start working on the car now. Yes I've been riding around like that for a while now. Priorities. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I forgot to post the pics. Sorry. Idiot.

Japanese plastic is expensive. The sheild under the motor that connects to bumper cover is 192 bucks. Thank God for gorilla tape.

There are a few different lip kits that would cover all but maybe the highest part of those scratches (thought they won't do anything about the cracking in the finish obviously).
Specifically due to the cracking which would take a lot more to repair, I'd probably just clean the scrapes up a bit and hit it with some touch-up paint. Just think, you never have to feel bad about scraping a parking block now. |

Honestly that's how I feel. I don't want to pay a ton of money to get a brand new bumper and paint job and then hit a deer or have someone back into me. I'd be so mad. I'm also not really super anal about my cars. I do want it to look nice tho. That's why I was asking for some ideas. Any specific lip kits?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If you're throwing in the idea of adding fogs, just get the new bumper or call up some salvage lots for a used bumper. It can be repaired but some shops may charge you as much to repair as it costs for a new one.

There's also this one which would cover pretty much everything, but may not be to your personal style. I'd just surf Ebay motors and see what jumps out at you. Otherwise, salvage yard bumper might be the way to go, but it's probably tougher to find than one might think considering for these cars to wind up junked often means significant front-end damage. |
Order a custom made sticker tha reads "this is why she is now the Ex". Slap it on there and sit back and enjoy the laughs people will get.

What's the best way to fix this body damage??
Full Rocket Bunny kit is really the only choice. It's made even easier by not having a wife to answer to. You're welcome.
Look for a bumper repair shop. I know a local guy that is a fantastic plastic welder and could fix that crack and smooth the scratches. It will likely cost you less than the full bumper. I think bumper medic might be a chain that has a location near you or just call some shops and ask about plastic welding. |

Usually I can come up with a "redneck fix" ......... but, in this case, I think you're gonna haft to get the bumper re-sprayed.....:(

Start making phone calls to find a grey front bumper skin in a junkyard or members parting out wrecks/upgrading front ends (be prepared to drive and ask for pics first)

New bumpers are dirt cheap and then paint and a bezel. Pretty cheap replacement part in all actuality and an easy fix overall.

They're almost doubling the price it should be. They're between 230-280 genuine Toyota parts new. Even then, that is pretty cheap for a bumper cover on a small run niche vehicle. http://parts.olathetoyota.com/auto-p...nts-front-scat http://scionparts.villagetoyota.com/...U00301484.html If you want to get an aftermarket, "LKQ," or a refurbished one they're in the 150-190 range. BRZ front bumper covers are less for some reason. Also that is before shipping, but some of those places offer free shipping. |
It looks to me like one of the the bigger lip kits can cover all that. you'll have to do something about the fog light vent cover- there are aftermarket parts for that too.
Oh yeah- GO RED SOX! |
If you're willing to do a bit of DIY, plastic welding for structural strength isn't terribly hard. Getting it to look perfect is definitely tricky, but if you just want to stabilize and strengthen, you can definitely DIY it.
You can do some searches - a lot of motorcycle guys have howto's on the subject. If you really want to embrace the DIY look, check out zip tie stitching, and then get the sticker that @Tcoat suggested. I've done both plastic welding and zip tie stitching on MC's in the past, and had some pretty good results. I grabbed a couple of wrecked body parts from friends to practice on, which helped a lot. If you don't have any MC friends, you can probably pick up busted up plastics from eBay on the cheap. |
You can blend the scratch so that it isn't noticeable unless inspected. It's not gonna be perfect though.
Deburr the scratch with sanding, then very finely apply bondo over the scratched up parts. More sanding. Any other imperfections fill with spot putty. Sanding. Then masking, primer, repaint, compound. Thanks for this post. It inspired me to give it a go. (Can't mess it up too much more right?) Cost under $200 to get the IJDMTOY DRLs and some paint and sandpaper. Didn't bother with fixing the crack. Here's my progress. The asphalt paint / clearcoat should be shipped today. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ffdafc2475.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e08bdbba93.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
