No Alarm?

I just got back from my Toyota Dealership and they told me they havent even made an alarm system for the FR-S AND they dont even have the touch up paint...
How is everyone dealing with this? After market alam?

Bceres 07-06-2012 04:42 PM

i have an alarm o_0

Mo707 07-06-2012 04:43 PM

Really? They said I would have to wait a year or two. And that's if they made one for this car.

Sigh-on-Rice 07-06-2012 04:44 PM

There is no alarm yet. I asked if I can pay for it now and then get it installed when it's available, but they told me I can't do that because they don't even have the price for it.

Roadstercycle 07-06-2012 04:49 PM

That's really weird because when I was buying my FRS on Memorial they tried to add on the alarm system and Xylon coating for $1795.00. I refused because I didn't want anyone manhandling my car putting in an alarm system. They almost didn't sell me the car because of this. They said the alarm was $1000 by itself. Very bad experience that got worse, then ended up better expected. Got the XYlon coating for free. (well nothing is free, a lot of aggravation went with it)

Bceres 07-06-2012 04:51 PM

well i guess u cant really call it an alarm. more of security system. but its lo jack

I got lojack. good ease of mind.
But yea its not an alarm or a security system, its not even a theft deterrent.

Its a theft alert system. The alarms being mentioned in this thread are for point of entry, lojack is after your cars been stolen, to track it down.

moniz 07-06-2012 05:40 PM

By alarm are you including immobilizing. Pretty sure every car made nowadays can't be hot wired and is completely immobilized with out a key.(Not counting tow bandits. If a pro wants your car, it WILL be stolen, no matter what)

feldy 07-06-2012 05:42 PM

I got my touch up paint from subie. Toyota didnt have it.

gt86init 07-06-2012 05:46 PM

viper smart start alarm systems are pretty neat imo!

WolfsFang 07-06-2012 07:19 PM

i installed a gps system in my car. If someone wants your car they will take it so i never buy an alarm. Instead i track their asses down.

yup! viper has a pretty neat system which you can easily view the status of your car through your smartphone .. if the alarm is triggered is sends text messages as well..

Pretty much what lojack is, except lojack is on police scanners, and for the most part hidden from view. (obviously if they know you have lojack, they can hunt around under / in / through the car to find it) I imagine more secure than a gps receiver though

i have my gps system in the trunk and its wired to my car so it never dies and they cannot cut the connection. I can view where my car is anytime from the company website or a app anytime.

I have an alarm from Toyota and LoJack , they even did an update to the software on my alarm, it was standard on my car, it wasn't an add on or Anythin so I don't get why they said one isn't available

Chillz 07-06-2012 11:01 PM

I also was told no OEM alarm was available when I picked up my car last week. They were, however selling an aftermarket alarm but I decided to wait for OEM..

Does yours use the OEM remote?

Yes

Gannicus77 07-06-2012 11:50 PM

Mine uses the OEM remote and it's guarantee that if my car gets stolen with the alarm installed, I'll get another car for free.

All FR-S colors except Hot Lava are widely available Subaru colors.

This is the most ignorant post I've come across on this forums thus far.

For many people the addition of a car alarm or immobilizer saves them substantial money on their car insurance. For people who are not rich or spoiled kids living with their parents for free, these things are important and actually do factor in when purchasing a new car.

I know this car is going to attract a lot of young "ricers" and wanna be enthusiasts, but please try and keep your inner 13 year old 4chan personality out of the forums. K thnx bye.

moniz 07-07-2012 03:44 PM

BTW the car does have an immobilizer. Check the Scion site, it's listed as a standard feature.

Lonewolf 07-07-2012 03:51 PM

I was disappointed when I found out that the FRS didn't come with a scion security option. An immobilizer (and sometimes an alarm) is not enough.

I hate aftermarket alarms because the installation is wholly dependent on the skill and focus of the installer (not concealing the wiring, making poor connections, harming the condition of the factory wiring).

At least a factory alarm with a visible/audible presence has a deterrent effect, and can stop or interrupt casual thieves when they break into your car or try and tow it away.

moniz 07-07-2012 05:34 PM

If they're towing your car, they ain't no casual thief!

The one in the link states that it is a "passive" system and data needs to be downloaded to a computer before it can be viewed on the website. So, it would not help if your car was stolen because they would have stolen the device as well.

no thats if they find it, and by the time they do find it you can track their asses down. Their is another one they offer that gives live feed. I just dont want to pay for that.

Why don't you just sit down and read my post history? As you may not know, since you only have like 5 posts, I am a jokster and like to give sarcastic remarks. I comment as I please, where I please. If you do not like my style of writing/comedy/sarcasm, well there isn't much I could do for you there.

I'm not sure after that comment I posted, how I would be considered:

a) a ricer
b) 13 years of age
c) a 4chan user
d) a non-enthusiast
e) rich and spoiled (would be pretty cool if I were)

Please elaborate your research, as I for one, would love to discover these magical powers you possess.

I didn't mean to disrespect you, and apologize if I somehow offended you via the internet. But lighten up jeez. Take the joke! You think anyone is dumb enough to bad mouth an ALARM SYSTEM?? The thing that prevents people from snatching your automobile, etc?

p.s. did you not see the "lolololo I be trollin' them"?

OEM AutoMate passive alarm system for the insurance discount. that's what they put in my xD as well when i got it. it took them about 3 hours to install as there was only one person familiar with the car, but i was fine doing it from them because they would be responsible for any problems that would arise. installed fine though and works great.

I believe all new cars sold in Canada (possibly the US?) are legally required to be equipped with immobilizers, just as a point of interest.

Get the one you can track live, then.

http://www.liveviewgps.com/live+trac...+tracking.html

$169 for it, just plugs into the OBD2 port (quite discrete) and you get 10 second updates in real time for $30/month.

I don't think you can even DIY a solution cheaper/better than that because for real time reporting you will at least need a cellular connection (presumably location data is sent via txt message through an SMS gateway), and a txt messaging plan capable of sending a couple hundred thousand txt's per month (every 10seconds adds up!)...

$30/month actually seems pretty reasonable.

Viper smart start sounds like it does a similar thing, less than 30/month, (but seems like it requires a contract) 70/yr for the gps service.
I havent looked far into it though.
