Tabs and registration fees - what's the cost?

What are the latest fees that you're paying for the most recently registered year?

Just renewed mine hours ago.

2014 FR-S
Seattle, WA

$207.75

humfrz 07-15-2016 04:20 AM

2013 FRS
Puyallup, WA
$159.00

Fishbed77 07-15-2016 10:37 AM

2013 FR-S
West Columbia, SC
$327.00

Yes, our vehicle taxes are ridiculously high, and tied inexplicably to what school district your residence is in. In other parts of the same county, my vehicle tax/registration bill would have run close to $600 for the year.

Crashdummy 07-15-2016 11:01 AM

2015 RS1.0
Howards Grove WI
$90.00

wow, never knew that some states were that high!

wireman957 07-15-2016 11:07 AM

You guys in the PNW, how often do you have to renew? It's been a long time since I lived in Wa. state, but when I was in Oregon in the 80s-90s it was something like $30 every two years. Just renewed (1 year) in Tarrant County, Tx for $72.

I just dropped about $700 between town and state. In NH. This is for 13 months and it is a new car, 2016. Expect it to drop somewhat next year. For comparison, the 1990 car I was driving before only cost about $70 to register for year.

gramicci101 07-15-2016 12:48 PM

Delaware: $40 a year for a passenger vehicle, regardless of the type, year, or weight of vehicle. With the purchase of a new car, you can register it for five years. My registration was done in 2014 and it's good until 2019, for $200. Plus the DMV is very efficiently run. One of the few good parts about living in that state.

jasonojordan 07-15-2016 12:53 PM

Wish in Minnesota we could register for multiple years...If i remember right for my 2013 last year it was around $325

86geek 07-15-2016 02:04 PM

Last year paid $285.00 which includes personalized plates. Hawaii is based on weight of the car. Curious as to what the weight tax will be for this year. My renewal is in Sept.

I just renewed the tags for my 2015 BRZ in Maricopa County, Arizona. Vehicle License Tax here is based on the age of the vehicle and a standardized original cost, with a minimum of $25 (usually at around 15 years). I paid $437 for this year, including a $25 custom charge.

aegisdrgn 07-17-2016 12:27 AM

I used to think my reg fee was ridiculous...then I saw what some of you are paying and I'm wiping my brow in relief!

$258 for a MY15 BRZ in Los Angeles.

fitcious 07-17-2016 02:04 AM

$205 for 2013 FRS

I think we pay here by weight. On my registration renewal it says the FR-S weighs 2,688 lbs. It says my 2002 GTI weighs 2,804 and also costs $36.10.

DriveDriftDogfight86 07-17-2016 10:18 AM

You getting screwed in Columbia....

My 2015 RS 1.0 was $276.00 this year remember in South Carolina we don't pay the "Percentage of value" sales tax like most states which can be thousands of dollars at the time of purchase.

Here in Ga they nexed that registration crap. Why do you have to pay to register your car every year? We pay it all up front (its a tax thats all it is) and pay 20 a year for a tag, so 20

eggncheese 07-18-2016 08:55 AM

$155 ($135 depending on your plate)
MD
Every two years

Casey10s 07-18-2016 11:17 AM

Pennsylvania. It went up this year to $41.

Indeed. I'd be getting screwed even worse if I was in Irmo/Chapin (Richland-Lexington School District 5). Their online estimator shows the yearly tax would be right at $500.

That $300 flat vehicle sales tax is great compared to a percentage. But the shitty yearly taxes add up.

Good ol Arizona sticking it to us all in the rear. Mine was a little better down here in Pima County, Arizona... 2016 FR-S registration for this year was $418, also with the $25/year fee for a custom license plate.

My favorite part of them sticking it to us is how they don't make us get an emissions test for the first few years we own a new car... BUT THEY STILL CHARGE US FOR IT!

DC2R 12-12-2017 04:23 PM

Just got my Tabs renewal for Everett, WA. Moved from Miami, FL 1.5 years ago and it was around $60 before i moved. With the insane tax increase this year it is $310. I called the DOL and they take the MSRP of the car ($25k) and "depreciated" it 4 years. This comes to about $21k. They tax that instead of the real 12k-15k its worth. Ugh.

up to 5 years old...kinda silly but it has some logic since technically the emissions are already covered as part of the standards set on new cars

Seeing some of these posts, Florida's fees don't seem quite as rapey now. It was going to cost me over $1000 for the initial registration of my three vehicles in Florida until they found an old registration in the system from twenty years ago and knocked $200 off the impact fee. But then I don't have any inspections, and the annual tag fees are fairly cheap.

Also, as much as I've traveled around, this is the first time I've heard the term "tabs." Are we talking about tags/plates by another name? Or is this something different?
