OFT question for GTA member

I was just wonder for OFT stage 1 what are people using? 91oct pr 93oct tune? I always use either protrol94 and esso93 just wondering what people use thank you for feedbacks really appreciated!

drewbot 07-10-2016 02:07 PM

93 tune on PetroCanada 94

DGM-BRZ 07-10-2016 02:12 PM

Just get Esso/Petro 91 and stage 1 91 tune.

Save some moneyz

Cole 07-10-2016 02:23 PM

93+ availability for me is hit and miss (plus Costco 91 is cheap af) so I use the 91 tune and just use whatever is available to me.

brzd 07-10-2016 02:23 PM

was using 91 on stage 1 tune and it was okay,

started using petro can 94 for OFH stage 2 uel tune to help reduce knock

illmatic_frs 07-10-2016 02:29 PM

Ultra 94 all the way. I get crickets, but the performance and sound is on point. When I tried 91 it felt flat and unoptimized

So i guess stage 1 91octane tune and use 93or 94?

sIowbrz 07-10-2016 04:18 PM

Sorry i mean i always use 93 or 94 octane when fill up but just wondering should i go with the stage 1 91oct tune or 93oct tune

illmatic_frs 07-10-2016 04:21 PM

93 tune + ultra94 gas.

I didn't get good results on 93 tune + esso 93 gas.

If you look at the fuel maps 91 vs. 93, the only difference is above 4500rpm anyway

I use
Stage 1 ~ 91 Tune
Shell V-Power

I tried 91 tune with 91 petroleum and 91 shell.. was getting knock.
switched to ultra 94 and was better but still a bit of knock.
Then tried 93 tune with Ultra 94 and my car seemed to like that combination better.

Then got uel header and stage 2 93 tune with ultra 94. :party0030:

That's what I run all summer, and a 91 tune in the winter.

93 tune is worth the ~40 cents per tank cost difference if you're driving the car hard at all (above ~4500rpm).

Have you logged what the knock is like on Costco 91? I'd be interested to see how good it is. My gut says it would be junk, but I have no actual data to back that up with, just me being paranoid :D

Where was the knock happening? I get knock on 91 octane regardless of tune (even stock) if I'm stuck it traffic or even sometimes putting around town. 93 or 94 solves the issue, also regardless of tune. Like someone above mentioned, the OTS 91 and 93 octane tunes are identical at lower rpms (< ~4500 rpm).

What was your IAM on esso 93?

I use Ultra 94 too. Never tried the Esso 93

I didn't even bother logging! Butt dyno said it all.

I haven't logged on Costco, only on Esso 91(which is a-ok). I don't often run Costco gas, only because my membership ran out. Since I keep the car at my parents place while I'm on the road for work, my dad sometimes drives the car and always fills it up with Costco gas.

I did ask him to talk with the attendants at the gas bar, and they said that they get their gas from various sources. Being somewhat in the industry, I'm willing to bet they just send their trucks to whatever tank farms are around and buy in bulk from them. So, the options are Shell, Esso and... Can't recall who else has ethanol free gas.

I'll see if he'll drive my car a bunch before the next time I'm home, and get at least 40L in the tank. That way I can do a log and see what's up.

For what it's worth, my car has had a 91 tune for about 90% of the time I've had my OFT and I haven't had any issues with knock.

So you could still have a shit ton of knock. But I guess as long as your butt dyno says your car is "better", that's all that matters, right?

illmatic_frs 07-11-2016 07:57 PM

Ummm.. thanks for the advice? We are here to help each other, right?

I don't recall exactly what rpm the knock was happening at, however it was much better using ultra 94. I switched to uel stage 2 in short order so didn't do too much logging with stage 1. I posted a few logs in another thread.

1Cor10:23 07-11-2016 08:55 PM

I run 91 tune on Ultra94 gas.

Try rush hour traffic with the AC on, pretty much a guarantee to get knock low down in the RPM range on 91 octane regardless of tune (unless it's been modified to be more conservative). :D

I used to run Costco 91 until the lines got too long.

It gave me the same results as Shell V-Power 91 - no crickets, IAM fluctuations, slight knock at low-mid RPMs.

The beauty of my car now only being a one weekend per month toy for me :). Hell, even when pops drives it, it's an 18 minute back road blast for him, and he bitches more about speed bumps than traffic haha

can someone take a look at the log for me? im using stage 1 91oct tune with esso 93oct

Well off the bat your adv multiplier isn't 1.0. Strange

That's basically what I found on any brand of 91 on both a 91 tune and the stock ROM.

I feel like I had the same problem with my 2015 many moons ago. Something about logging a couple different parameters maybe? I think @steve99 can answer that one.

Yes something goes weird in log in a couple of spots maybe loose connection to obd port or something.

yes iam is less than 1 in that guys log due knock hes got the usual knock at low rpm plus some pretty serious knock arround 6000 rpm that needs work. It looks like crappy fuel if that the best arround id suggest he mod his tune, might be due to residual 91 in tank

daiheadjai 07-13-2016 06:17 PM

My understanding is that Costco gets their gas from Husky?
Have seen them tanking up a couple times with Husky trucks, and the pumps have Husky logos on them IIRC.

sIowbrz 07-13-2016 06:39 PM

i think this one looks better now?
