Wobble

I just opened up my engine bay to change my air filter..

However, I noticed this thing is wobbling.. Is this normal?

Sorry, my old eyes can't see that well.

Can you zoom in on it ... ??

humfrz

PS - if it's a pulley you're looking at ...... no, none of them are supposed to wobble.

Ultramaroon 07-02-2016 06:37 PM

Undamped belt tensioner. Perfectly normal.

Oh, I see now. It's just "moving" ....... I would consider "wobbling" like after you get off a bar stool, heading for the restroom.

Yep, like the guys say ..... normal, although mine doesn't move nearly that much ..... or maybe it's just too fast for me to see ...... :iono:

Carry on ........ pay me no nevermind ....... :(

Oh, yes ..... NOW I see, @FRSure...... whenever the idler pulley has to move that much ..... that means the camshafts are badly worn .... which has already put stress on the main bearings of the crankshaft ....... which will have already started to eat into the rod bearings ..... and it will soon totally explode the whole engine.

@Ultramaroon and I will take it off your hands for $2,000, to use when we want to tour the East coast. Just park it, pump up the tires, put sta-bil in the gas tank and one of us will pick it up next fall for a driving tour of the East coast.

You're quite welcome.

Have you forgot about that special concoction we used back-in-the-day, to put in the crankcase of a vehicle, that was burning oil and had a rod knocking, just before we sold it ... ??

Yep, I still have some ...... it should get it to go for a couple quick trips up and down the coast.

:D

Ok but I'm not falling for the old war injury stories anymore. When it breaks down we trade off pushing it.
