Here's an interesting vid on a somewhat old topic

Now this video is kinda long so if you want to skip to what I think is the interesting part, start at about 8:00 in.

"If I was going to go to the race track, I'd definitely put premium in. But just driving around to and fro? Doesn't need it."

what....:mad0259:

Premium gas vs. regular: What's really better for your car? (CBC Marketplace) - YouTube

The difference?

"Premium recommended" versus "premium required"

Guess what we have?

Don't waste your time. Anybody who thinks that video is relevant to our cars is a lost cause already.

Thanks extrashaky too many people beating the dead fuel horse on the forum almost always totally irrelevant to modern cars and our cars specifically

andrewtgg 06-27-2016 01:35 AM

Lol... buys a high price car to worry about fuel price. How could he possibly be saving $10 a fill up. Regular to premium difference for a fill up is like 3 bucks at most

Impureclient 06-27-2016 01:59 AM

I will take the gas station attendant's advice on the video and continue using the "93% clean" gas.

FR-Sky 06-27-2016 03:55 AM

Whatever, I can spend few thousand to mod my car, I dont mind paying few cents more for 91.

Mini Cooper S 06-27-2016 04:40 AM

Cheap gas & cheap suits.

JFunk 06-27-2016 05:32 AM

I use to think if i could ever put the cheaper gas in my car but honestly it's a few cents more and my car will run better and I wouldn't cheap out on something vital for myself so why for my car

I put in 8 gallons every 2 weeks. Comes to about $3.20 more than if I just bought regular :\

Yea, like really. Just make Spaghetti once, portion out a second helping for the next day. You just saved enough on your food bill to pay for premium and then some.

Something important to remember is that our cars make 100hp/liter with very high compression. that is a huge difference to the corvettes 55hp/liter and 10:1 compression

FX86 06-27-2016 12:49 PM

i don't even question it when i fuel up...i just punch the highest 90+ gas available lol

THAT is what you took away from this shoddy video, the comparison to the corvette!?!?!? LOL. Corvettes state they require premium fuel as well. 10:1 is still fairly high compression ratio.

I think the overall takeaway is unless your car states it needs premium you don't have to use premium. Like most commuter cars do not need it and it provides no benefits.... that's the takeaway.

what about those car manuals that tell you to you can use regular but you are suggested to experiment with higher octane ratings :iono:

What? Provide an example.

If it says reccomended for maximum performance it would indicate day to day driving wouldn't make a difference unless your throttle usage is all or nothing lol.

We have become conditioned to rate things by numbers and anything with a higher number must automatically be "better".
That is not the case with octane ratings. People think that higher octane gas is in some way superior to the lower rated ones. They are all exactly the same quality. The octane number just means it has higher knock resistance. It does not burn "better", "cleaner", more "efficiently" or any other of the misconceptions out there.
There is zero advantage to running high octane fuel in a car that does not require it. Inversely it is a really bad idea to run low octane in a car that does require it!

Which is why that video is irrelevant to our cars. It's difficult to understand why this conversation keeps coming up. The best thing to do is to ignore the conspiracy freaks who think they're getting one over on the military industrial complex by using the wrong gas in their cars. They're already so far out in left field that no rational argument is going to sway them.

No, because the manual is a conspiracy between the Government, the Car Companies and Big Oil to get you to pay more for gas.

Ya that is why anymore I pretty much add my standard statement to this argument and then just sit quietly and watch the fun.

Didn't someone already post this stupid video before?

krayzie 06-27-2016 05:17 PM

CBC pfff government funded mouthpiece in Canada.

jawn 06-27-2016 05:22 PM

This video gave me AIDS.

Riftur 06-27-2016 05:39 PM

My fathers car takes regular fuel but he would put 93 because its cleaner. He started having engine problems. Turns out the engine runs better on regular.
