p2096 after headers install

I'm getting the code p2096 after install headers, o2 sensor is brand new from dealer so its not that. And when the CEL is on the car runs hella weird, it starts up hella weird too, feels like it gonna shut back down, which sometimes it does. And the RPMs dropping hella weird too. Can anyone help me out?

If you have not touched anything else then you likely have exhaust leak causing 02 sensor to see fresh air so ecu is setting lean code
http://www.obd-codes.com/p2096

How much force did you use to install o2 sensor ?

excessive torque can damage them
is sensor screwed in all the way so ring is seated.
if it tight run a M18 by 1.5 mm pitch thread tap through header bungs
did you use new exhaust gaskets

make sure both plugged in correct sockets
grey plug is primary (first) sensor

make sure your tune is correct, running a petrol tune on e85 will cause lean condition

You could have gotten a bad O2 sensor also. It happens.

Dream20b 06-19-2016 08:26 AM

did you install a tune?

Not sure if sensors are messed up, but ill check them again tomorrow.

Alright, so your car has a tune. What type header (brand, catted, or uncatted), front pipe (brand, catted, or uncatted), and FlexFuel kit (if equipped) are you running? Does your car throw the code when running pump gas or only with E85?

Your post catalyst readings are too lean on bank 1. Either you have inadequate fuel in the combustion chamber caused by a fuel delivery problem or a substantial vacuum leak, a failed or leaking O2 sensor, an inoperative catalyst, a leaking exhaust manifold gasket, a problem with your mass-air flow sensor, or an issue with your tune.

I'm asking partly so that I can try to help you and partly so you'll keep posting, because you talk funny.

It's obvious you've not interacted with folks from NorCal much...

I'm running stage 2 uel and randomly threw a code driving to work few weeks ago. Ran weird. I just reflashed the tune and drove it easy for a bit and it went back to normal.

If you ever get CEL code its best to read it and see what it is, rather than just clear it.

In most cases it will give you a clue to problem, they don't usually pop up unless their is a problem

Shhh. Don't tell them to actually fix their stuff. We need more parts cars in junkyards.

I did read it. It was for the downstream o2 sensor. It didn't start running weird much later. It wasn't until I reflashed the ecu that it started running as normal was to me.

@mav1178, even though I'm from Chicago, I knew what 'Hella' meant - it was this that made me crack up:

when you reflash ecu that action also resets cel codes, as does removing battery terminal .

which code number
