Autolock When Driving

Just curious if anybody knows a means of getting the car to auto-lock when the vehicle is moving.
I prefer having the car doors lock when I drive, it isn't something big but I just like to know it's locked.

Godzpeed 07-05-2012 05:38 AM

Frenchy86 07-05-2012 05:40 AM

Really?
I feel like every toyota and lexus car in my family has this set up.

lordgrover 07-05-2012 07:27 AM

UK spec cars have this enabled as standard.
I'd imagine it'd be a simple mod for your dealer.

Yeah, Toyota has this feature on all their vehicles.....in automatics! I've always owned a stick, and I haven't been able to find how to do this. Usually you can program it to auto lock in different ways. For example, when the car is put into drive it will auto lock. I would also like to know if this car has the option.

Bonburner 07-05-2012 07:36 AM

Thanks for the clarification!
I'd like the autolock to trigger at 2nd! :]

Nepenthe 07-05-2012 08:11 AM

My 2007 Si had this, at 9 mph.

Kurenai 07-05-2012 08:30 AM

Picked up my Automatic FR-S (US) yesterday, and it does not auto-lock.

jarviz 07-05-2012 11:07 AM

:word:

My 2004 corolla had the autolock feature.. and the doors would automatically unlock when I opened the door when parked.

The FRS does not autolock and does not automatically open when parked. I'm still getting used to manually locking and unlocking the doors. I wish there was a way to enable the automaticness of the doors.

Bonburner 07-05-2012 12:18 PM

Well I hope I can bug some service dept people into researching this option

jesseps 07-05-2012 12:28 PM

So I am not alone. I keep forgetting that it doesn't autolock.

Lil Abner 07-05-2012 01:26 PM

Now that you brought it up, I'm looking into it.

Jared0934 07-05-2012 01:58 PM

are you guys afraid of red light hobos car jacking you or something? :happyanim:

frusciantrix 07-05-2012 02:09 PM

In some cars you need to hold down the "lock" button in order to activate this feature.
Maybe that helps?!

yeah im kind of wondering this.
i never had auto locking doors so i never actually lock my doors during a drive.

But i guess i dont live in a criminal area where car jackings at streetlights may occur.

Mr. Mcoupe 07-05-2012 05:19 PM

That is actually a nice feature recommendation.

I use to live in the Detroit area for several years. The Detroit Police Department tells the nurses and doctors of Detroit Mercy Hospital that when they leave at night to NOT stop at the stop signs and stop lights in the area!! They instruct them to cautiously approach, and if clear, floor it.

Also, when you get pulled over at night, roll all windows down, and hands on the steering wheel. Let the officer TELL you what to do. Why? Because they approach with their guns DRAWN.

Now I'm in the Columbus, OH area where it's not bad. So I guess it's just a habit. :D

Jared0934 07-05-2012 10:01 PM

That move may have very well saved your car and/or life.....

FT86R 07-05-2012 11:06 PM

i used to work at toyota its an easy fix just go to the dealer and ask them to put the auto lock on they'll use the toyota scan tool to go into the customize setting and just simply turn auto lock on ..takes two seconds

Haha, well it's really more of a peace of mind thing I think.
After driving so many vehicles that did this automatically I just figured it would be a common set up these days.
There is no reason Not to do it.
If air bags trigger they can be set to auto unlock when the bags trigger.

Plus it LOOKS cleaner when driving without the red tape sticking out from the handles.

woah are you serious? Is there a charge for this service? I wouldn't be surprised if it cost $120 for a 2 minute job.

I don't' think it will work. Features that are "customizable" by the dealer are explained in the manual, and this is not one of it.

Cripes!

A neighbour of mine had her push bike pinched in 2009. About as rough as it gets here.

While at the dealer, some lady locked herself out of her Prius. Some auto locking feature while the key is in the ignition more than a few min. I always worry about this at the car wash. Our cars don't do this right?

TurnOne 10-19-2012 03:25 PM

I wish it would autolock, but I wish as much, maybe more that it would unlock when I pull on the handle. It is very easy to get accustomed to this feature. My stick shift Hyundai Sonata auto locks and then unlocks when I pull the handle as I prefer.

You'll be fine, you'll get used to it, I did already.

dnieves 01-11-2014 02:09 AM

Civic Si can be set to enable auto door lock when you hit 9 mph.

stugray 01-11-2014 03:09 AM

My Toyota Solara does not autolock.
But it auto-unlocks if you get out of the car with it running and close the door.
I guess it knows you got out of the car by a drivers side seat occupancy sensor?

starbot 01-11-2014 12:21 PM

There's another thread in this section that shows a box you could buy that would auto lock the car (and auto unlock).
