Negotiating FR-S prices
Hi, just a newbie here. I want to ask if anyone had any luck negotiating prices of the FR-S down with the Scion dealerships.
I have done a quote to find out the dealer cost of the car at carsaver.ca and am unsure of the accuracy. I was told that dealers should only be making $300-$500 per car, so the FR-S could be negotiated down by at least $900 by that assumption. Also, if I can't use these numbers in a negotiation, can I use the reports provided by carcostcanada.com? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. These are the numbers for the FR-S: INVOICE Base PriceMSRP $24,513 Destination$25,990 $1,495 Options$1,495 $100 TOTAL PRICE$100 $26,108 $27,585 These are the numbers for the BRZ: INVOICE Base PriceMSRP $27,125 Destination$29,295 $1,595 Options$1,595 $100 TOTAL PRICE$100 $28,820 $30,990 |
From what i know, i don't think you can talk prices down off the frs since its so limited right now. You can talk to them about finance rates and how you pay it or possibly even add-ons like gas cards or detail jobs, something along those lines
|
From what I read in another post it seems someone got $600 off their car.
Also carcostcanada.com states that are normal dealer markup is 3-6%. The 25990 is just about at the 6% point. If I can negotiate it down to 3%, I'm looking at getting around $700 off the car. Thanks anyways, but I am looking for the prices that current FR-S/BRZ owners have gotten. |
Oh ok I guess if it works let me know
|
Honestly, I didn't even bother trying to negotiate them down on a car with margins this low. I don't feel the amount they get per car (for the FR-S) is excessive.
If this was a $60k car with tons of margin it'd be a different story. |
another thing to keep in mind, If you dont buy the car, someone else will, bargaining a Camery or Corolla would be easy cause there just sitting there. FRS on the other hand is not. but hey, doesn't hurt to try right?

It definitely doesn't :

If you think that was a soon delivery. I just bought mine today. And am looking to get it next week! Yeah, that's what's up!
I didn't get the invoice price from carcostcanada but I used the number I got from carsaver.ca and multiplied it by 1.04 then added the options then the 755, 740, and 100 mandatory charges, then finally multiplied that number by 1.13 to get my final estimate. I then preceded to tell the associate that my "friend" got his Scion for that price at Yorkdale Scion. And he matched that, I got coaxed a bit with the $5000 insurance package and the nitro stuff, so ended up adding another $226 to that previous final price. I wanted white but had to wait 4 months, so took a black instead. It should be in next week! Pretty pleased with Brimell Scion, I highly recommend it! Ask for Kevin Davidson if you are seriously considering one. |

Any new updates from recent owners? My local Mississauga Scions say no discounts. Although the car is new, it is a massed produced car - there's got to be some $ off no? Especially in this economy.

this is not a massed produced car my local dealer has sold every single one they got in so far any cars still out there are either in remote locations, unwanted packages, or have simply slipped off the radar. supply and demand you can try to negotiate, but they will just shrug their shoulders. |
Anyone know how many 2013s are coming to Canada?
Numbers won't be as low as Integra Type Rs back in the day, right? |
Ordered mine July 7 no deposit took delivery July 17 no haggling over price ,paid well below MSRP

Heffner Toyota in Kitchener, if anyone's wondering. |
I was on the email list for notification when the F-RS went on sale. Upon receiving notification I called and then visited the dealer that day. I had purchased an xB from the same guy 7 mos. earlier. Didn't negotiate, got what I wanted in the first shipment and I am satisfied. It looks like if you play your cards right you can get $600-$1000 off MSRP.I have no regrets. I did refuse to pay for the $300 vehicle recovery serial number just as I did on the previous purchase. The F and I manager tried to fight me on that (greedy).
I sold the Miatas when they first arrived in 1990. We took $500 refundable deposits and discounts were out of the question. Selling Mazda was a lesson in starvation and taught me a hard lesson. The Miata was practically the only sale with a reasonable commission. Anyway I am still in sales and I (sometimes) do ok so I figured Id afford myself the excitement of being one of the first vs. playing the game and feeling I was the smart guy. Shame, $600 gets 2 Z's of insane hydro these days! |
I went to three dealerships in gta area, my best quote was from pickering to
Yoa because my parents have bought a few cars there. I used this quotenat downtown scion to match, ended up saving 300 on mrsp and another 300from their rust protection. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

It's hard to get a discount just take off the $299 iGlobal fee, you don't need it since you have insurance and take the grad rebate, etc.
|
Someone local for 600-800 off of MSRP. Before Tax.
Think it was Yorkdale Scion. |
Know how dealers like to drag their heels when it comes times to talk to the finance guy and sign all the paperwork? Do the same to them, be prepared to sit there for hours looking over the car, asking questions, etc then be prepared to walk if they don't take the bs off the contract. You have to be prepared to do it with your best poker face.
They are trained to do it to you so that you are so tired you'll sign anything just to get out of there, just do the same back. |
Lol, resurrecting old threads...yeah Derek Guo at Yorkdale is your man if you want to knock off some $$ from MSRP. But be prepared to go at least twice. Nice guy that he is, had to play hardball and leave. Second time got the price I wanted.
|
Keep in mind that even at the invoice price, dealers are still making money. There's about $1500 in "hidden" costs added in so that even if they sell at "cost" they're still making money.
