Haha I knew it focus rs price

So my local ford deslership just got focus rs in their show room floor.
1. It's in show room floor, same as gt500. No test drive til car is sold.
2. 10k mark up.

Msrp of 36k +10 = 46k

I think at Msrp this is good deal but not for 46k.
I guess I won't even consider rs for at least few more years

Your thoughts ?

bcj 06-06-2016 12:22 PM

That assessment is about right.

Summerwolf 06-06-2016 12:25 PM

Yeah, no shit. The ones sold were pre-orders, and I'm willing to bet someone will pay that for a limited production vehicle.

IDK why, but someone will buy it. I thought the focus ST was very unworthy of its 30K+ pricetag new.

FX86 06-06-2016 12:32 PM

46K ?? GTFO!!

NyC Zn6 06-06-2016 01:08 PM

In the UK the early cars are on sale circa £38k sterling. That's circa £8k over MRRP.. the M2's circa £55k to £59k!

Tcoat 06-06-2016 01:22 PM

There were many $40K FRSs sold when they first came out (check some old threads) so only $10K is not so bad sounding.

Damn, I bet they're feeling it now when the car is only bringing high teens pre-owned lol. Or maybe they don't care and bought is as an R&D platform and made their money back. Or maybe they actually raced it. Or maybe they paid cash and just don't care. Who knows!?!?!

I just have to laugh at anyone willing to pay some kind of "market adjustment" at the dealer.

I'm guessing you saw the one at the HRE open house (or if you didn't, it was probably the same one-it was black?) The 10k mark-up is complete bs, my buddy paid 3k over for his.

The price you pay to keep up with the Joneses.

I guess, but 10K over FRS price could get you a really nice pre-owned C6 corvette and then the joneses would have issues keeping up with you.

The focus RS?

Everything I have ever seen made it seem like it will be a short production run and limited numbers.

If they will make as many as will be bought than the pre-orders and people paying over sticker will really be sad when the cars are on lots.

Dodge ran in to that with the hellcat vehicles too where people were paying 20K over sticker and now they're just pumping those cars out and you can see them all over if you look.

Summerwolf 06-06-2016 01:54 PM

http://www.autonews.com/article/2016...-hatch-will-be

autonews says ford will pump out as many as can be bought.... so, then really what is the appeal?

Who8myrice 06-06-2016 02:12 PM

I see myself as pretty good car buyer. I am not a typical Asian buyers demanding dumb numbers. I know some people will say just go negotiate, but I don't have time and energy to fight over mark ups

continuecrushing 06-06-2016 02:14 PM

I know a while back Ford claimed only 2000 were coming to the US

Ya the mark up will probably be pretty regional. Like any car there will be places with line ups for pre orders and other places where the cars will sit and gather dust in the back lot.
The laws of supply and demand still are in play.

I enjoy shopping but REALLY, REALLY hate car buying especially from the more branded larger dealers. Too many hierarchical bods with Mr Big hiding in an office deep in the Hornets nest!

I read somewhere that the last version totalled about 5000units I presume Worldwide.

ScoobsMcGee 06-06-2016 02:57 PM

Could always be worse
http://www.automotiveaddicts.com/wp-...tment-150k.jpg

(This was proven to be a dealership who wanted people to stop asking if they could buy a car which wasn't for sale)

I think the most recent Golf R only sold around 2500 units in the States. I can't imagine actual demand for a 40K Focus being more than 3000 or so units. Ford probably doesn't have a production limit, per se, but will probably build as many as they anticipate having demand for.

Regardless, it's still silly to pay a 28% markup on a Ford that isn't the GT. It'd still be a little silly on the GT, but at least you'd truly have something special.

Ford must have a minimum as they probably ordered a set number parts specific to the RS.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Insert my normal "There is a plan. There has been a plan for at least 2 years. They will build to that plan. No more. No less." rant here.

Has the Clio R.S 16 made any news? Potential £38k (sterling) car!!

raven1231 06-06-2016 03:28 PM

You guys are all forgetting all the prestige that comes with being one of the first to own a FORD Focus rs!!! I'd gladly pay 80k if it mean't a larger Instagram following, more Facebook likes, and fist bumps from bros at my car meets.

mav1178 06-06-2016 03:50 PM

Old news. Anything "limited production" and in "high demand" will be marked up on the dealer level.

See: 2013 BRZ. S2000s when sold as new. 2008 GT-R. 2016 Cayman GT4. etc etc...

Normally I wouldn't bother to even comment, but many people don't even realize this was what happened to prospective buyers of the BRZ early on in the 2013 model year cycle.

The price is great. If you don't like the markup, you just have to shop around and see what others offer. A $10k markup at a single dealer is not representative of what the actual sell price of the car is on the market.

I actually had considered whether I could buy a GT4 or not... but the markup made it an easy choice for me because it meant I could not negotiate reasonably with any Porsche dealer given that I have never owned a Porsche before.

Sonic Motor 06-06-2016 04:08 PM

imagine how many of them will get HOONIGAN stickers!

I think it's a cool car, and I highly dislike ford, but the price is waaaaaay steep.

TylerLieberman 06-06-2016 04:48 PM

45k for a hopped up Focus with a maxed out drivetrain?

Pass.

Can't wait for the first article to come up about somebody wrapping theirs around a tree when using "drift mode". I foresee many hoonigan stickers, 15:52 wheels, bc coilovers, and vape clouds in the future.

So true. I'm almost embarrassed at times to even own a Subaru lol. People have asked me if I'm stage 2, if I vape, if I do any rallying etc.

I'm just like:suicide::suicide::suicide:

Don't know about anyone else, but I'm glad you broke your rule for just the 4,410th time.

themadscientist 06-07-2016 06:35 AM

Hmm, Focus RS with fanboi markup or this?

http://www.lexus.com/models/RC

Sure, it's not the top of the range, but it's also not the top of the range econobox either.

I'll take the RC over the RS in a heart beat :D
