sad day for me

Signed for my brz yesterday and should be here by tomorrow... yet i am already having the internal battle of getting the most hp NA or slapping a SC kit on it... Gotta love down grading to more than half hp from previous car. (begin flame)

cjd 06-02-2016 10:44 PM

yeah, because HP is what this car is all about...:slap:

Exact reaction i was expecting :D I know my reasons for buying this car and its obviously has nothing to do with hp from the factory. I want the ultimate drivers car and IMO this 86 twins r the real deal. I love the entire back history. I just cant stand it not being able to burn the tires up if i wanted to. Do I think anything over 200 defeats the purpose of this car? sure I do to an extent. Do i still want that 240+hp feel every now and then. ohhh yea

themadscientist 06-03-2016 12:00 AM

Seriously, why are you buying it if it's already a disappointment? I find the thing gutless, but it does so many other things well and offers great utility I found it a workable compromise. It sounds like it' s a more significant problem for you, though. You might want to reexamine the purchase.

ichitaka05 06-03-2016 12:13 AM

I'm not gonna say "Why are you buying this car then?" Or "Buy Mustang!" Or other stuff. I'll just say, whatever makes you happy & not regretting it, do it. BUT just make sure to drive around as is for 1k THEN decide what you wanna do.

The purchase is sound. the lack of power is a problem for me (never said the car itself was a disappointment i absolutely love the car). like you said everything else is amazing but i dont want to compromise. im not here complaining im just waiting for the car to get here tomorrow, cant sleep, so i figured i would stir up some trouble in the off topic.

Yea for sure. its gonna be a weekend car for me. I am in a really small town and have been trying to hunt down another twin owner. have seen one SC on a local tuners facebook post but cant find the guy. going to order everything in September so it should give me time to feel the car out completely and hopefully find someone making power NA nearby i can check out and someone FI to look at also. im sure i am not the only one here that have sat with this dilemma lol.

Correct, you're not the only one went through this dilemma. I didn't. I liked my BRZ w NA power... but that doesn't mean everyone think the same. It's your car, do whatever you like... at the same time, when you post something here, expect member to disagree w you. They have their own opinion & ideas.

Saw Tokyo Drifft one too many times?
Want to get into that Stance/Hellaflush scene so badly?

Meh, come back when you actually driven it for a month or two.

WOW - @tofurun are you all wound up ....... :D

Congratulations on getting a BRZ ......

Yep, several folks have modified their FR-S/BRZ to allow it to make more power.

Everything from a drop in free-er flowing air filter to an engine swap .... and everything in between.

Lots of good information on this site ..... to help you figure out what you need (want) ..... and then how to do it.

Happy modding.

The dude with his duct tape scrap metal contraption of an intake?

OP: just drive the car first then decide what you wanna do. for me I want to go SC eventually with a mild tune just for that extra little bump, without having to make my car louder or catless.

A stroked NA with downdraft sports injection would sound great and scoot around pretty good. That's a silly route to take, an FI kit is the easiest solution, but weird for weird's sake is cool.

Go forced induction right off that bat. It isn't worth doing the NA route. Just plan it out and be ready to throw loads of money at the car. Also keep some money in reserve for when the rods bend.

Cmon now, that guy was only making 221 whp. I even have a quality handmade dyno sheet proving my 223 whp. This also seemed like a quality spot to put it since it was deleted the first time i used it.

Damnit. And here I thought all along it was you custom ram air set up that caused the donut and have been trying to duplicate it. I have taped three different snow shovels and a grain scoop onto intake tube and could never match it. Now I know why. That is $800 in dynos down the drain.

tennisfreak 06-03-2016 01:35 PM

Dont listen to the jackwads giving you crap about wanting to add power to the car and "what this car is about".

The car is about whatever you want it to be about, do what makes you happy.

From my ownership experience I tried the NA route. You dont really make enough power given the amount of $$$$$ you put in it.
If I started over again I would go forced induction from the get go.

Yep those pretty numbers can be mighty important to some people. The dude hasn't even taken delivery yet much less know what he needs to do to make it what he wants. All he knows is that it is a "downgrade to half the HP he had".
Now if he wants to double those numbers so he can brag to his buddies then that is cool but the advice to wait and see what he really wants to do does not make anybody a "jackwad".

He was pretty much just trolling with his post anyway (he even says so).

Didnt read every post just the first two or three.

Advice is certainly fine but the second post in this thread was anything but advice and certainly "jackwad".

No offense to anyone offering solid advice and if OP was trolling then my fault for not reading all 3 pages.

Based upon the initial post and the follow up I wouldn't even call that second post a "jackwad".
The OP was setting people up for that exact response. He wasn't looking for real discussion just reactions. He got them.

Off-topic on this forum is largely about banter.

Nobody was being rude; if there is nothing wrong with adding HP to the car, there is also nothing wrong with thinking it ruins the car.

I think you should go FI right away. My reasons are top secret; it's more of a vote.
